Application of the Asymptotic Iteration Method to a Perturbed Coulomb Model
We show that the asymptotic iteration method converges and yields accurate
energies for a perturbed Coulomb model. We also discuss alternative
perturbation approaches to that model.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl
Accurate calculation of resonances in multiple-well oscillators
Quantum--mechanical multiple--well oscillators exhibit curious complex
eigenvalues that resemble resonances in models with continuum spectra. We
discuss a method for the accurate calculation of their real and imaginary
parts
The confined hydrogen atom with a moving nucleus
We study the hydrogen atom confined to a spherical box with impenetrable
walls but, unlike earlier pedagogical articles on the subject, we assume that
the nucleus also moves. We obtain the ground-state energy approximately by
means of first--order perturbation theory and by a more accurate variational
approach. We show that it is greater than the one for the case in which the
nucleus is clamped at the center of the box. Present approach resembles the
well-known treatment of the helium atom with clamped nucleus
Effect of higher orbital angular momenta in the baryon spectrum
We have performed a Faddeev calculation of the baryon spectrum for the chiral
constituent quark model including higher orbital angular momentum states. We
have found that the effect of these states is important, although a description
of the baryon spectrum of the same quality as the one given by including only
the lowest-order configurations can be obtained. We have studied the effect of
the pseudoscalar quark-quark interaction on the relative position of the
positive- and negative-parity excitations of the nucleon as well as the effect
of varying the strength of the color-magnetic interaction.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. To be published in Phys. Rev. C (November 2001
A track-before-detect labelled multi-Bernoulli particle filter with label switching
This paper presents a multitarget tracking particle filter (PF) for general
track-before-detect measurement models. The PF is presented in the random
finite set framework and uses a labelled multi-Bernoulli approximation. We also
present a label switching improvement algorithm based on Markov chain Monte
Carlo that is expected to increase filter performance if targets get in close
proximity for a sufficiently long time. The PF is tested in two challenging
numerical examples.Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and
Electronic System
Cotunneling theory of inelastic STM spin spectroscopy
We propose cotunneling as the microscopic mechanism that makes possible
inelastic electron spectroscopy of magnetic atoms in surfaces for a wide range
of systems, including single magnetic adatoms, molecules and molecular stacks.
We describe electronic transport between the scanning tip and the conducting
surface through the magnetic system (MS) with a generalized Anderson model,
without making use of effective spin models. Transport and spin dynamics are
described with an effective cotunneling Hamiltonian in which the correlations
in the magnetic system are calculated exactly and the coupling to the
electrodes is included up to second order in the tip-MS and MS-substrate. In
the adequate limit our approach is equivalent to the phenomenological Kondo
exchange model that successfully describe the experiments . We apply our method
to study in detail inelastic transport in two systems, stacks of Cobalt
Phthalocyanines and a single Mn atom on CuN. Our method accounts both, for
the large contribution of the inelastic spin exchange events to the conductance
and the observed conductance asymmetry.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure
Simple one-dimensional quantum-mechanical model for a particle attached to a surface
We present a simple one-dimensional quantum-mechanical model for a particle
attached to a surface. We solve the Schr\"odinger equation in terms of Weber
functions and discuss the behavior of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. We
derive the virial theorem and other exact relationships as well as the
asymptotic behaviour of the eigenvalues. We calculate the zero-point energy for
model parameters corresponding to H adsorbed on Pd(100) and also outline the
application of the Rayleigh-Ritz variational method
