Asymptotic behaviour of estimators of the parameters of nearly unstable INAR(1) models

    Get PDF
A sequence of first-order integer-valued autoregressive type (INAR(1)) processes is investigated, where the autoregressive type coefficients converge to 1. It is shown that the limiting distribution of the joint conditional least squares estimators for this coefficient and for the mean of the innovation is normal. Consequences for sequences of Galton{Watson branching processes with unobservable immigration, where the mean of the offspring distribution converges to 1 (which is the critical value), are discussed

Empowerment of intergroup harmony and equity

    Get PDF
The impact of empowerment interventions is often short-lived because they are not anchored in changes in the wider social and structural context. This chapter draws its inspiration from social representation theory and social identity theory. Several theoretical propositions are derived from these theories that bear on the effectiveness of empowerment interventions. Drawing on field experiences with Roma communities and young unemployed people in Hungary and Italy, we demonstrate how a focus on intergroup interactions, between minority and majority group members, is central to the empowerment process. In addition, we address the role of power and the means by which power can be dissembled and more equitably shared. Finally, we discuss the importance of placing contextual factors at the center of our analysis and enacting changes in context in order to arrive at empowerment interventions that produce sustainable changes in intergroup harmony and equity

Development of CNT-silicon nitrides with impro ved mechanical and electrical properties”, Advances Sci

Abstract. This work is focusing on exploring preparing processes to tailor the microstructure of carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced silicon nitride-based ceramic composites. Samples with different porosity's and different amount (1, 3 or 5 wt%) of carbon nanotubes have been prepared by using gas pressure sintering or hot isostatic pressing. In comparison, composites with 1wt%, 5wt% or 10wt% carbon black and graphite have been manufactured. We measured the room temperature mechanical and electrical properties, examined the micro and nano structure by X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. It was found that it is possible to develop CNT-silicon nitride composite for applications where a decent electric conductivity and good mechanical properties are required

Rényi 100, Quantitative and Qualitative (In)dependence

    No full text
We discuss recent developments in the following important areas of Alfréd Rényi’s research interest: axiomatization of quantitative dependence measures, qualitative independence in combinatorics, conditional qualitative independence in statistics/data science and in measure theory/probability theory, and finally, prime gaps that are responsible for Rényi’s early career reputation. Most authors of this paper are main contributors to the new developments
