BACKGROUND: Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy remains one of the substantial noninvasive diagnostic methods in coronary artery disease. Recent technological advancement allowed to create novel semiconductor, dedicated cardiac gamma camera with better spatial resolution and higher energy resolution, resulting in the reduction of radiation burden and acquisition time. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of stress-only supine and prone MPS with a cardiac gamma camera in patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total number of 203 consecutive patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease, who underwent MPS were enrolled in the study. The patients without perfusion abnormalities on stress supine and prone MPS scans had no rest MPS, in the remaining patients two-day stress-rest imaging was performed. The group of 160 patients with one-year follow up was subjected to final analysis. RESULTS: Stress-only protocol of myocardial perfusion imaging was performed in 72 patients, 88 patients underwent two-day stress and rest myocardial perfusion scintigraphy. In 46 out of 72 stress-only group of patients, prone study did not affect further proceedings. However, in over 1/3 of cases (26/72), prone scans resulted in abstaining from rest imaging. One year follow-up revealed no sudden cardiac deaths or myocardial infarctions in both (stress-only and stress-rest) groups. Revascularization was performed most often in the double-positive group — patients with significant ischaemia on myocardial perfusion images and chest pain or electrocardiographic changes or both during the stress test. In this double-positive group, all 11 patients had coronary angiography (two of them prior to myocardial perfusion scintigraphy), nine of them had subsequent revascularization. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with no significant perfusion abnormalities on stress scans omitting rest study is safe with very good one-year risk prognosis of acute cardiac events and allows to limit the radiation exposure and procedure duration. Additional prone acquisitions are valuable supplements in determining the decision of safe early completion of myocardial perfusion imaging

Bioactivity investigations of titania nanotube (TNT) coatings enriched with silver nanograins (TNT/Ag) have been carried out. TNT/Ag nanocomposite materials were produced by combining the electrochemical anodization and chemical vapor deposition methods. Fabricated coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Raman spectroscopy. The release effect of silver ions fromTNT/Ag composites immersed in bodily fluids, has been studied using inductively coupled plasmamass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Themetabolic activity assay (MTT) was applied to determine the L929 murine fibroblasts adhesion and proliferation on the surface of TNT/Ag coatings. Moreover, the results of immunoassays (using peripheral blood mononuclear cells—PBMCs isolated from rats) allowed the estimation of the immunological activity of TNT/Ag surface materials. Antibacterial activity of TNT/Ag coatings with different morphological and structural features was estimated against two Staphylococcus aureus strains (ATCC 29213 and H9). The TNT/Ag nanocomposite layers produced revealed a good biocompatibility promoting the fibroblast adhesion and proliferation. A desirable anti-biofilm activity against the S. aureus reference strain was mainly noticed for these TiO2 nanotube coatings, which contain dispersed Ag nanograins deposited on their surface

Optimization of the Silver Nanoparticles PEALD Process on the Surface of 1-D Titania Coatings

Plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) of silver nanoparticles on the surface of 1-D titania coatings, such as nanotubes (TNT) and nanoneedles (TNN), has been carried out. The formation of TNT and TNN layers enriched with dispersed silver particles of strictly defined sizes and the estimation of their bioactivity was the aim of our investigations. The structure and the morphology of produced materials were determined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron miscroscopy (SEM). Their bioactivity and potential usefulness in the modification of implants surface have been estimated on the basis of the fibroblasts adhesion and proliferation assays, and on the basis of the determination of their antibacterial activity. The cumulative silver release profiles have been checked with the use of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICPMS), in order to exclude potential cytotoxicity of silver decorated systems. Among the studied nanocomposite samples, TNT coatings, prepared at 3, 10, 12 V and enriched with silver nanoparticles produced during 25 cycles of PEALD, revealed suitable biointegration properties and may actively counteract the formation of bacterial biofilm.Peer reviewe

The State Archives in Przemyśl is in possession of the Collection of Helena Dąbczańska (1863-1956), well-known connoisseur from Lvov who collected books and artifacts. Dąbczańska gave a part of her collection to the Society of Friends of Sciences (Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Nauk) in Przemyśl. After the dissolution of the Society in 1952 a fragment of this donation went to the state archives. The Collection of Helena Dąbczańska comprises mainly ephemera and excerpts from periodicals as well as manuscripts—all dating from 1750-1899. The paper presents the origins and contents of the collection as well as an outline of its development

The State Archive in Przemyśl includes materials concerning the history of Polish Armenians. Among these sources, the unit with the signature 516 in the division „Kapituła greckokatolicka w Przemyślu” [„Greek and Catholic Chapter in Przemyśl”] contains important data. It presents source abstracts and a manuscript of the work of Franciszek Ksawery Zachariasiewicz – the Przemyśl bishop of the Latin rite – titled Wiadomość o Ormianach w Polszcze [News About Armenians in Poland], Lwów 1842. These data show the research workshop of the historian who as the first Polish Armenian managed to finish his research and present its results in print

Niniejsza praca dotyczy współczesnego wesela góralskiego we wsi Białka Tatrzańska z punktu widzenia etnologa. Drugi rozdział dotyczy ram teoretycznych i metodologicznych mojej pracy. The main aim of my thesis is contemporary Górale wedding from ethnological perspective. The research were conducted in Białka Tatrzańska, one of Podhale villages. In the last decades, the life of Podhale inhabitants has changed. Górale adapt their lifestyles to constantly changing reality. Nowadays, “traditional culture” is still the important part of life, but its meaning has changed. Certainly, Tatra highlanders use modern technology, but they also reach for tradition in paramount moments of their lives, because they can find there important values and tips for life. Wedding is one of that moments. Traditions are restored to life by regional institutions and folk bands. This phenomenon is clearly visible in comparision to 1970s, because most of wedding were not traditional at that time. I do analise the rite of passage, called “oczepiny” to take a look at the shape of contemporary Podhale culture. In the first chapter I bring out its specific. The second chapter is about theory and methodology I used. In the third chapter I present a reconstruction of model scenario of tradditional wedding. Then in the fourth chapter I analyse acquired empirical material about contemporary Górale wedding. It is certain that present rite “oczepiny” is not the same as it used to be. It is no longer a rite, but there are few ritual activities still practiced in it. It is a form of contemporary spontaneous folklore. Traditions are still important for the local society, so they are passed down from generation to generation. We should not contrast tradition to modernity, because tradition is a process, not a fact. It is a subject of dynamic changes and it adapts to modern life. This can be observed on the example of contemporary Górale wedding in Białka Tatrzańska
