A SINFONI view of circum-nuclear star-forming rings in spiral galaxies

We present near-infrared (H- and K-band) SINFONI integral-field observations of the circumnuclear star formation rings in five nearby spiral galaxies. We made use of the relative intensities of different emission lines (i.e. [FeII], HeI, Brg) to age date the stellar clusters present along the rings. This qualitative, yet robust, method allows us to discriminate between two distinct scenarios that describe how star formation progresses along the rings. Our findings favour a model where star formation is triggered predominantly at the intersection between the bar major axis and the inner Lindblad resonance and then passively evolves as the clusters rotate around the ring ('Pearls on a string' scenario), although models of stochastically distributed star formation ('Popcorn' model) cannot be completely ruled out.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, contribution to the Proceedings of the IAU Symposium 245, "Formation and Evolution of Galaxy Bulges", held at Oxford, U.K., July 2007, Eds. La Educación Física en Educación Primaria como herramienta para mejorar la autoestima escolar

Con este trabajo pretendemos constatar la importancia de la educación física como medio para mejorar la autoestima. El estudio se llevó a cabo con el alumnado de sexto curso de primaria del CEIP o Asturias, al cual se le aplicó la “Escala de Autoestima de Rosemberg” a partir de la cual analizamos su nivel de autoestima, conociendo así sus debilidades y fortalezas. Los resultados obtenidos pusieron de manifiesto que el 65% del alumnado tiene una autoestima alta, el 25% una autoestima media, y el 10% una autoestima baja. Para mejorar y reforzar estos resultados se propone una actividad extraescolar llamada “conócete mejor” donde se trabaja la autoestima a través de la actividad física.With this work we intend to confirm the importace of physical education as a way to improve self-esteem. The study was carried out with the students of the sixth year of primary improve self-esteem. En este artículo se presenta el desarrollo de la disciplina en el tiempo para conocer los aportes teóricos más importantes que se han venido desarrollando en México, y así por medio del caso de la Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (Upaep) exponer las principales áreas de oportunidad que tiene la disciplina dentro de la vida académica y profesional de los egresados como una forma de entrelazar el desarrollo teórico con la práctica universitaria.Neste artigo é apresentado o desenvolvimento da disciplina ao longo do tempo para conhecer as contribuições teóricas mais importantes que foram desenvolvidas no México e, com isso, por meio do caso da Universidade Autônoma Popular do Estado de Puebla (Upaep), expor as principais áreas de oportunidade que têm a disciplina dentro da vida acadêmica e profissional dos egressos, com o objetivo de entrelaçar o desenvolvimento teórico com a prática universitária.This article presents the development of organizational communication over time in order to recognize the most important theoretical contributions that have been developed in Mexico and, thus, from the case of the Popular Autonomous University of Puebla (Upaep), the article also seeks to expose the main areas of opportunity that the discipline has within the academic and professional life of the graduates as a way to intertwine the theoretical development with the university praxis

Achondroplasia with 47, xxy karyotype: a case report of the neonatal diagnosis of an extremely unusual association

Background: The association of achondroplasia and Klinefelter syndrome is extremely rare. To date, five cases have been previously reported, all of them diagnosed beyond the postnatal period, and only one was molecularly characterized. We describe the first case of this unusual association diagnosed in the neonatal period, the clinical findings and the molecular studies undertaken. Case presentation: The boy was born at term with clinical and radiological features indicating the diagnosis of achondroplasia or hypochondroplasia combined with the prenatal karyotype of Klinefelter syndrome (47,XXY). Neonatal FGFR3 mutation screening showed that the newborn was heterozygous for the classic achondroplasia G340R mutation. Microsatellite marker analysis showed that the sex chromosome aneuploidy had arisen from a non-disjunction error in paternal meiosis I, with a recombination event in the pseudoautosomal region 1 (PAR1). Conclusion: Specific mutation analysis is appropriate to confirm the clinical diagnosis of achondroplasia for appropriate diagnosis, prognosis, and genetic counseling, especially when the karyotype does not explain the abnormal prenatal sonographic findings. In the present case, a recombination event was observed in the PAR1 region, although recombinational events in paternally derived Klinefelter syndrome cases are much rarer than expected

La importancia de la comunicación productiva en las organizaciones

Este texto tiene como objetivo no solo presentar el sustento teórico para comprender la comunicación productiva, sino también las coincidencias que se producen con la teoría de sistemas de Niklas Luhman, con el objetivo de hablar sobre la importancia que tiene la comunicación productiva como una herramienta que apoya la efectividad de gestión en organizaciones públicas y privadas. Se plantea que este tipo de comunicación permite desarrollar habilidades para mejorar la producción y posicionamiento de mensajes, así como una mejor práctica en el momento de intercambiar significados en común en las organizaciones. No obstante, se concluye que la información y la manera de hacerla viva juega un papel fundamental ya que mucho depende de la actitud que tengan los individuos y que va a estar mediada por sus experiencias

Using hospital discharge database to characterize Chagas disease evolution in Spain: there is a need for a systematic approach towards disease detection and control

After the United States, Spain comes second in the list of countries receiving migrants from Latin America, and, therefore, it is the European country with the highest expected number of infected patients of Chagas disease. We have studied the National Health System's Hospital Discharge Records Database (CMBD) in order to describe the disease evolution from 1997 to 2011 in Spain. We performed a retrospective descriptive study using CMBD information on hospitalizations including Chagas disease. Data was divided in two periods with similar length in time: 1997-2004 and 2005-2011. Hospitalization rates were calculated and clinical characteristics were described. We used multivariable logistic regression to calculate adjusted odds-ratio (aOR) for the association between various conditions and being hospitalized with organ affectation. A total of 1729 hospitalization records were identified. Hospitalization rates for the two periods were 18 and 242.8/100000 population, respectively. The median age was 35 years (range 0-87), 74% were female and the 16-45 age-group was mostly represented (69.8%). Overall, 23.4% hospitalizations included the diagnosis of Chagas disease with organ complications. Being male [aOR: 1.3 (1.00-1.77)], aged 45 and 64 years [aOR: 2.59 (1.42-4.71)], and a median hospitalization cost above 3,065 euro [aOR: 2.03 (3.73-7.86)] were associated with hospitalizations with organ affectation. Since 2005, the number of detected infections increased in Spain. The predominant patients' profile (asymptomatic women at fertile age) and the conditions associated with organ affectation underlines the need for increased efforts towards the early detection of T cruzi.We would like to thank the General Sub-direction of the Institute for Health Information, Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, for providing the information on which this study is based. Multi-objective optimization of the solar orientation of two residential multifamily buildings in south Brazil

The shape and orientation of a building influence the energy demand, therefore optimal decisions should only be made rigorously supported by energy evaluation programs, which allow for measuring the energy demand of a building more precisely. The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the shape and orientation of massive residential social housing multifamily buildings to find the best solar positioning to minimize cooling and heating demands simultaneously in the bioclimatic zone 2 (Cfa) in the southern region of Brazil. To do this, this study utilizes multi-objective optimization with a genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) simulating the thermal behavior in EnergyPlus and performing the optimization with a Python language programming code, totalizing 80,000 simulations. The main results showed that solar orientation optimization could reduce the total demand by 4% for the “H” shape and 22% for linear buildings in the isolated scenario. For the condominium condition, the reduction is 2% for the “H” typology and 8% for the linear shape. The results presented can help engineers and architects to design more energy-efficient buildings and address the energetic vulnerability in the same building.
