Combining Edge Computing and Data Processing with Kubernetes

The objective of this thesis is to explore and expand on cutting edge concepts that have been introduced in the coursework during this bachelor's degree. In particular, we will be going into the world of distributed and "Cloud Computing", including the use of "Internet of Things" devices. We will also demonstrate our use case scenario implementing "Artificial Intelligence" concepts, including building and configuring a Neural Network. In more detail, we explore how a computer cluster is built, scaling an application throughout an array of connected computers, building such applications on containers, and deploying them into the cluster. To build our use case scenario we will be developing an intelligent temperature control system that uses AI to determine the future temperature and using that prediction to reduce network congestion. This temperature control system and its other supporting applications will be run on the computer cluster and its performance will be evaluated.Grado en Ingeniería Informátic

Chromospheric observations and magnetic configuration of a supergranular structure

Unipolar magnetic regions are often associated with supergranular cells. The chromosphere above these regions is regulated by the magnetic field, but the field structure is poorly known. In unipolar regions, the fibrillar arrangement does not always coincide with magnetic field lines, and polarimetric observations are needed to establish the chromospheric magnetic topology. In an active region close to the limb, we observed a unipolar annular network of supergranular size. This supergranular structure harbours a radial distribution of the fibrils converging towards its centre. We observed this structure at different heights by taking data in the FeI 6301-6302 {\AA}, H-\alpha, CaII 8542 \AA\ and the CaII H&K spectral lines with the CRISP and CHROMIS instruments at the Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope. We performed Milne-Eddington inversions of the spectropolarimetric data of FeI and applied the weak field approximation to CaII 8542 \AA\ data to retrieve the magnetic field in the photosphere and chromosphere. We used magnetograms of CRISP, HINODE/SP and HMI to calculate the magnetic flux. We investigated the velocity using the line-of-sight velocities computed from the Milne-Eddington inversion and from Doppler shift of the K3_3 feature in the CaII K spectral line. To describe the typical spectral profiles characterising the chromosphere above the supergranular structure, we performed a K-mean clustering of the spectra in CaIIK. The photospheric magnetic flux is not balanced. The magnetic field vector at chromospheric heights, retrieved by the weak field approximation, indicates that the field lines within the supegranular cell tend to point inwards, and might form a canopy above the unipolar region. In the centre of the supergranular cell hosting the unipolar region, we observe a persistent chromospheric brightening coinciding with a strong gradient in the line-of-sight velocity.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in A&

An update about molecular biology techniques to detect orthopaedic implant-related infections

Despite different criteria to diagnose a prosthetic joint infection (PJI), aetiological diagnosis of the causing microorganism remains essential to guide treatment. Molecular-biology-based PJI diagnosis is progressing (faster, higher specificity) in different techniques, from the experimental laboratory into clinical use. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction techniques (custom- made or commercial) provide satisfactory results in clinical series of cases, with specificity close to 100% and sensitivity over 70–80%. Next-generation metagenomics may increase sensitivity while maintaining high specificity. Molecular biology techniques may represent, in the next five years, a significant transformation of the currently available microbiological diagnosis in PJI

Equivalent Circuit Modelling of Non-Symmetric Reciprocal Lossy Electromagnetic Structures

    Get PDF
Lattice-network-based equivalent circuits of lossy symmetric reciprocal electromagnetic structures have shown superior performance when compared to other topologies like the T- or PI- networks. This is due to the realizability of their elements and the orthogonal-mode decomposition, which, in most cases, provides a deep physical insight into the behaviour of the modelled structure. The aim of this contribution is to provide a short description of these equivalent circuits and to compare their performances by modelling a misaligned complementary strip-slot element.Universidad de Málaga. Program to promote oral hygiene habits in children with intellectual disabilities

    Get PDF
An intervention study of health education was conducted in order to assess the impact of a program to promote oral hygiene habits in children with intellectual disabilities (ID). The study was quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test, and included 13 children with intellectual disabilities, ranging between 9 and 12 years old. The program consisted of 6 sessions, whose activities are designed to encourage participation and interest of children with ID. The results showed an improvement in oral hygiene habits. The implementation of programs to promote hygiene, appropriate activities designed with the cognitive level of the population favors the oral health status

On the Phase Response and Radiation Efficiency of the Complementary Strip-Slot as an Array Element

    Get PDF
The complementary strip-slot element is a broadlymatched microstrip radiator that has been used to design innovative series-fed arrays. It consists of a microstrip series-fed slot that have its complementary stub on the layer of the microstrip and aligned to the slot. In this contribution, the influence of the strip and slot geometry on its performance is studied through the analysis of four different designs. The obtained results highlight the possibility of controlling the radiation efficiency or the phase response, without compromising the broad matching. Therefore, potential series-fed arrays built with this element can exploit this feature to set the magnitude and phase of the excitations with certain flexibility.Universidad de Málaga. El debate como herramienta de aprendizaje

    Get PDF
