    Simple Asymmetric Exclusion Model and Lattice Paths: Bijections and Involutions

    We study the combinatorics of the change of basis of three representations of the stationary state algebra of the two parameter simple asymmetric exclusion process. Each of the representations considered correspond to a different set of weighted lattice paths which, when summed over, give the stationary state probability distribution. We show that all three sets of paths are combinatorially related via sequences of bijections and sign reversing involutions.Comment: 28 page

    Famine early warning organizations have experience that has much to contribute to efforts to incorporate climate and weather information into economic and political systems. Food security crises are now caused almost exclusively by problems of food access, not absolute food availability, but the role of monitoring agricultural production both locally and globally remains central. The price of food important to the understanding of food security in any region, but it needs to be understood in the context of local production. Thus remote sensing is still at the center of much food security analysis, along with an examination of markets, trade and economic policies during food security analyses. Technology including satellite remote sensing, earth science models, databases of food production and yield, and modem telecommunication systems contributed to improved food production information.     Remote Sensing Satellites Planning System

    A Remote Sensing Satellites Planning system (RSSP) for satellite constellations is responsible for managing these satellites by assigning the imaging tasks to each satellite in the constellation such that the loads are balanced and the resources are well used. The proposed system can be used with heterogeneous constellations that consist of satellites whose different specifications, different orbits' types and/or different payload types. This problem is a combinatorial optimization NP-hard problem modeled in this paper as a Constraint Satisfaction Problem using the Constraint Programming Technique. The output plan is obtained using one of three objective functions (gain maximization, area maximization, and image quality maximization) using four search algorithms (simulated annealing, hill climbing, tabu search and late acceptance) and different planning horizons (one track, one day and one month)

    Reduction glossectomy for macroglossia in children

    Background/aim: Although several surgical techniques have been described for reduction glossectomy in children, many general pediatric surgeons are still skeptical about the treatment of patients with macroglossia because of potential surgical complications. The aim of this study was to describe our initial surgical experience with reduction glossectomy in a series of eight patients with macroglossia.Materials and methods: A retrospective file review was carried out for all patients who underwent reduction glossectomy during the period from October 2009 to December 2014. Charts were designed to collect the following data from the patients’ files: age; etiology of macroglossia; and full clinical examination including the functional respiration, deglutition, phonation deficit, and dental occlusion alterations.Results: The records of eight patients were retrieved. Five patients, in whom macroglossia affected the tongue width and length, underwent peripheral glossectomy, whereas two patients, in whom macroglossia affected the tongue in all directions, underwent key-hole glossectomy. In one patient in whom only half the tongue was affected, a central longitudinal strip was excised. Motor and sensory  functions, especially taste sensation, were not affected by resection. Speech articulation errors were corrected in cases that stared speech. One complication occurred in one patient who had undergone a key-hole glossectomy: wound infection, followed by partial wound disruption.Conclusion: Partial glossectomy for macroglossia in children is both feasible and safe. It results in minimal complications. Many clinical problems caused by the pathology improve after surgery repair. The recommended surgical technique should be based on the extent of involvement of the tongue.Keywords: Beckwith–Wiedemann syndrome, macroglossia, reduction glossectom

    Analyzing Related Strategic Behavior Through Strictly Alternating Interactions with Two-Memory Length

    Reciprocal altruism can often be modeled through the iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma game in which players take turns in the roles of donor and recipient. Several late studies were based on memory alteration in the repeated Prisoner’s Dilemma game. This prompted us to study this alteration in a strictly alternating iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma game. In our work, we represented the repeated games played by finite states of automata. Also, we supposed that there is relatedness between the players in this game. A relatedness average degree r considered between players, where 0 ≤ r ≤ 1. The effect of noise on the relatedness degree among players can be examined with regard to the behavior of the strategies in their competitions

    Universal Formulae for Percolation Thresholds

    A power law is postulated for both site and bond percolation thresholds. The formula writes pc=p0[(d−1)(q−1)]−ad bp_c=p_0[(d-1)(q-1)]^{-a}d^{\ b}, where dd is the space dimension and qq the coordination number. All thresholds up to d→∞d\rightarrow \infty are found to belong to only three universality classes. For first two classes b=0b=0 for site dilution while b=ab=a for bond dilution. The last one associated to high dimensions is characterized by b=2a−1b=2a-1 for both sites and bonds. Classes are defined by a set of value for {p0; a}\{p_0; \ a\}. Deviations from available numerical estimates at d≤7d \leq 7 are within ±0.008\pm 0.008 and ±0.0004\pm 0.0004 for high dimensional hypercubic expansions at d≥8d \geq 8.     Directed Percolation with a Wall or Edge

    We examine the effects of introducing a wall or edge into a directed percolation process. Scaling ansatzes are presented for the density and survival probability of a cluster in these geometries, and we make the connection to surface critical phenomena and field theory. The results of previous numerical work for a wall can thus be interpreted in terms of surface exponents satisfying scaling relations generalising those for ordinary directed percolation. New exponents for edge directed percolation are also introduced. They are calculated in mean-field theory and measured numerically in 2+1 dimensions.Comment: 14 pages, submitted to J. Phys.
