In Aguascalientes, the garlic production per surface
unit has decreased gradually. It has been
determined that the main cause of this problem
is the use of seed with low production potential;
therefore it was necessary to improve garlic by individual
selection. The objective of this work was
to obtain a high yield and quality garlic clone
through individual selection. In order to develop
this work, Perla type was used and evaluated
through two production cycles by individual selection.
For the analysis of the data, a completely
random design with sub sampling in a factorial
arrangement was used. The results show, that the
C-3-1/25 and C-CN95/2 clones were superior in
yield and not different statistically between them,
with a yield of 18.8 and 17.8 t ha-1, respectively.
The C-3-1/25 had 13.3 cloves per bulb; it has the
highest yield and bulb quality. We conclude that
high yield Perla type clones were generated.

Leaf blight caused by Mycosphaerella graminicola(anamorph Zymoseptoria triticior Septoria tritici), is a disease present in rainy areas of seasonal wheat crops in the High Valleys of Central Mexico. The effect on grain yield caused by the disease is variable, depending on the locality and the resistance level of the varieties. The objectives of the research were to determine the percentage of losses caused by leaf blight and the response of commercial varieties planted in storm environments. Five varieties of bread wheat were evaluated in two treatments, with and without control of the disease, in the towns of Juchitepec, State of Mexico and Nanacamilpa, Tlaxcala, during the summer 2007 and 2008 cycles. The experimental design was complete randomblocks with four repetitions under split plot treatment arrangement. The decrease in yield caused by leaf blight was 41 and 40% in Salamanca S75 and Gálvez M87 respectively, 33% for Verano S91, Triunfo F2004 24% and 9% losses in Rebeca F2000. Based on their resistance level, three groups of varieties were determined: Rebeca F2000 as resistant, Triunfo F2004 moderately resistant, Gálvez M87, Salamanca S75 and Verano S91 susceptible. The best test site was Juchitepec, Estate from Mexico. These results indicate that greater resistance to Zymoseptoriashould be incorporated in future varieties, including Rebeca F2000 as a source of resistance, which will reduce losses in farmers yield in environments where the disease is important.
With the aim to evaluate convenience of applying fungicide to improve productivity of flour wheat and white wheat when there is incidence of yellow rust and complex of foliar diseases under rainfall conditions, varieties Gema C2004 and Tlaxcala F2000 were settled in three localities from state of Tlaxcala. Analyzed variables were days to flowering and to maturity, plant height, grain yield, incidence of yellow rust in foliage and in ear and incidence and severity of foliar diseases. In the three localities the flour wheat Tlaxcala F2000 variety overcame from 9% to 40% in grain yield to white wheat Gema C2004 variety. The diseases together caused decrease in yield up to 26%. Sportak® was the fungicide associated with better disease control, which was seen in greater grain yield with average increases of 26.5 and 29.4% when yellow rust and foliar diseases affected, respectively.
dentro del programa de mejoramiento genéticoIn common wheat of temporary in Mexico the industrial
quality variables have been identified with reduced genetic
variability which must be extended for its use through
selection. Therefore, the objective of this paper was to
estimate genetic variability, heritability and correlate quality
variables that favor bread volume and its stability, in US and
Canada wheat, in order to use them as sources of genetic
variability and to favor baking quality in breeding programs.
Sixteen genotypes were planted in eight storm sites. The
hectoliter weight, protein content in flour, sedimentation
volume, the tenacity/extensibility ratio, dough strength and
bread volume were measured. The dough strength showed
the highest coefficient of genetic variation (24.3) and high
heritability (0.37). The protein in flour and sedimentation
volume associated coefficients of variation less than 10 and
acceptable values of heritability, 0.33 and 0.23, respectively.
The volume of bread and hectoliter weight had the lowest
coefficients of genetic variation and heritability, so new
genetic sources should be searched for these characters.
Bread volume correlated positively with protein content,
dough strength and sedimentation volume and inversely
with the tenacity/extensibility ratio. The genotypes Nahuatl
F2000, Waldron, Ac Vista, Line 2, Kronstad F2004 and
Kulm showed very good stability and bread volumes greater
than 800 mL desirable characteristics for baking. Based
on the above, genotypes that combine high bread volume
with adequate stability that can be used within the breeding
program were found
