Silicon carbide particulates incorporated into microalloyed steel surface using TIG: microstructure and properties

    Get PDF
Surface metal matrix composites have been developed to enhance properties such as erosion, wear and corrosion of alloys. In this study, ~5 µm or ~75 µm SiC particulates were preplaced on a microalloyed steel. Single track surface zones were melted by a tungsten inert gas torch, and the effect of two heat inputs, 420Jmm-1 and 840 Jmm-1,compared. The results showed that the samples melted using 420Jmm-1 were crack-free. Pin-on-disk wear testing under dry sliding conditions were conducted. The effects of load and sliding velocity were used to characterise the performance of the crack-free samples. Microstructural and X-ray diffraction studies of the surface showed that the SiC had dissolved, and that martensite, was the main phase influencing the hardness

The study of identification within the organizational setting has highlighted various factors that may contribute significant changes, either positively or negatively, to the commitment and perception of fairness of employees. As workers, their jobs and relationship with their organization are also influenced by how they perceive people around them in terms of attitude and background. In connection, this study explored on the homophily and organizational identification towards the organizational commitment and organizational justice among male and female office workers in Iligan City. The respondents are male (n = 35) and female (n = 35) office workers coming from selected companies and institutions located in Iligan City. Based on the results and findings, there is a significant relationship between homophily and organizational identification; and organizational identification and organizational commitment among male office workers while there is a significant relationship between organizational identification and organizational justice among female office workers. Finally, there is a significant interaction between invested self-concept to organizational commitment of male office workers in Iligan City while there are significant interactions between background homophily to organizational justice; management connection to organizational justice; and coworker connection to organizational justice of female office workers in Iligan City

The importance of user in ISD. Do we really teach?

In 1999, the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) defined the framework that regulates all degrees, including Computer Engineering (CE), within the environment of the European Union. Each country, in turn, regulated each of these studies on the basis of that common framework. In the case of Computer Engineering there are concrete competences that refer to the effective incorporation of user and need for Information Technology (IT) professionals to learn how to manage and work in multidisciplinary environments. However, these competencies are difficult to teach to students. This paper presents a critical view of the way we are teaching future developers of information systems to work with user. Besides, it analyses the consequences that it may bring to future professionals. For this purpose, an experiment at three different universities in Europe has been carried out. This paper also offers some considerations and intends to motivate a future discussion on this topic.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2016-76956-C3-2-R (POLOLAS)Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2015-71938-RED

Vortices and domain walls in a Chern-Simons theory with magnetic moment interaction

    Get PDF
We study the structure and properties of vortices in a recently proposed Abelian Maxwell-Chern-Simons model in 2+12 +1 dimensions. The model which is described by gauge field interacting with a complex scalar field, includes two parity and time violating terms: the Chern-Simons and the anomalous magnetic terms. Self-dual relativistic vortices are discussed in detail. We also find one dimensional soliton solutions of the domain wall type. The vortices are correctly described by the domain wall solutions in the large flux limit.Comment: To be published in Phys RevD 23 pages, RevTex, 5 figure

La denominación de origen Cariñena como sistema productivo local: redes de empresas, cultura y gobernanza

Cariñena and its environs are a territory that can be considered as a local productive system, since there is a network of enterprises linked by trading relations –specially the integration of vine growing and wine production into cooperatives- and by cooperation relationships, being the Guarantee of Origin and Quality of Wine the clearest outcome. The analysis of a set of indicators calculated from official statistics and of a set of semi-structured interviews to the main agents has led to the knowledge of certain cognitive and organisational components of the system. Those identified are a low level of technical culture, a high level of entrepreneurial culture and a low institutional density, reflected in weak outcomes of network governance.

LMAP: Lightweight Multigene Analyses in PAML

Background: Uncovering how phenotypic diversity arises and is maintained in nature has long been a major interest of evolutionary biologists. Recent advances in genome sequencing technologies have remarkably increased the efficiency to pinpoint genes involved in the adaptive evolution of phenotypes. Reliability of such findings is most often examined with statistical and computational methods using Maximum Likelihood codon-based models (i.e., site, branch, branch-site and clade models), such as those available in codeml from the Phylogenetic Analysis by Maximum Likelihood (PAML) package. While these models represent a well-defined workflow for documenting adaptive evolution, in practice they can be challenging for researchers having a vast amount of data, as multiple types of relevant codon-based datasets are generated, making the overall process hard and tedious to handle, error-prone and time-consuming. Results: We introduce LMAP (Lightweight Multigene Analyses in PAML), a user-friendly command-line and interactive package, designed to handle the codeml workflow, namely: directory organization, execution, results gathering and organization for Likelihood Ratio Test estimations with minimal manual user intervention. LMAP was developed for the workstation multi-core environment and provides a unique advantage for processing one, or more, if not all codeml codon-based models for multiple datasets at a time. Our software, proved efficiency throughout the codeml workflow, including, but not limited, to simultaneously handling more than 20 datasets. Conclusions: We have developed a simple and versatile LMAP package, with outstanding performance, enabling researchers to analyze multiple different codon-based datasets in a high-throughput fashion. At minimum, two file types are required within a single input directory: one for the multiple sequence alignment and another for the phylogenetic tree. To our knowledge, no other software combines all codeml codon substitution models of adaptive evolution. LMAP has been developed as an open-source package, allowing its integration into more complex open-source bioinformatics pipelines. LMAP package is released under GPLv3 license and is freely available at http://lmapaml.sourceforge.net/. © 2016 The Author(s).Acknowledgements We would like to thank to Dr. Cameron J.
