Nbwaa-ka-win: To cherish knowledge is to know wisdom

    Get PDF
This reflection paper represents my own efforts at personal reconciliation as a settler nurse educator. A portion of these efforts include my analysis and experience of the current state of nursing academia within the context of our profession’s necessity to meet relevant calls to action stated within the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report.   Key issues such as problematic texts accepted as ‘nursing fundamentals’, the invisibility of Indigenous knowledge coupled with the perpetuation of colonial stereotypes are discussed within the context of Nbwaa-ka-win. The application of post-colonial theory as part of a strengths-based approach to the decolonization of nursing education is presented

Will Tennessee Soybean Producers Support a Biodiesel Cooperative?

    Get PDF
Adding value to agriculture products to create jobs is one means to achieve rural development. Tennessee soybean growers\u27 views on both biodiesel and the formation of a biodiesel cooperative are evaluated. Results from a mail survey suggest considerable interest from farmers in selling their soybeans to a biodiesel production plant. Some producers are willing to provide funding and purchase shares in a cooperative. This study provides Tennessee Extension agents a means to evaluate farmers\u27 perceptions of the development of a new generation cooperative and to help provide advice on cooperatives and how this might affect the farmer\u27s bottom line

The cetaceopteryx: A global range military transport aircraft

    Get PDF
This paper presents a design of a military transport aircraft capable of carrying 800,000 lbs of payload from any point in the United States to any other point in the world. Such massive airlift requires aggressive use of advanced technology and a unique configuration. The Cetaceopteyx features a joined wing, canard and six turbofan engines. The aircraft has a cost 1.07 billion (1993) dollars each. This paper presents in detail the mission description, preliminary sizing, aircraft configuration, wing design, fuselage design, empennage design, propulsion system, landing gear design, structures, drag, stability and control, systems layout, and cost analysis of the aircraft

AXS Vecta 0.071–0.074 Inch Aspiration Catheters for Mechanical Thrombectomy: Case Series and Literature Review

    Get PDF
Aspiration catheters are widely used for thrombectomy either alone or in combination with a stent-retriever, with a distal inner diameter and trackability keys to their success. In an illustrative case series, we report our clinical experience with AXS Vecta (Stryker Neurovascular, Fremont, CA, USA), available in both 0.071-inch and 0.074-inch distal inner diameters, including the first 2 Vecta 74 cases reported. A literature review on AXS Vecta is also provided. In our series, 9 thrombectomies were performed (Vecta 71: 2 M1, 5 M2 occlusions; Vecta 74: 1 M1 and 1 ICA-terminus occlusion). The AXS Vecta was successfully delivered to the target site in all cases. In 7 of 9 cases, the catheter was delivered over a Tenzing 7 delivery catheter (Route 92 Medical, San Mateo, CA, USA). For 2 of 9 combination approach cases, Vecta was delivered using the stent-retriever wire as a rail. The median improvement in NIHSS score during hospitalization was 9 (IQR 5–12). Successful mTICI 2C or 3 recanalization was achieved in 8 of 9 (89%) patients after a median 2 (IQR 1–2) passes. Our median groin-to-reperfusion time was 23 (IQR 12.5–32) minutes, with no procedural complications. Two previous clinical studies of a total of 29 patients treated with Vecta 71 reported successful mTICI 2b–3 recanalization in 89–90% of cases. The Median groin-to-reperfusion time was 30 minutes. Complications were seen in 2 of 29 (6.9%) cases (vessel perforation and/or intracerebral hemorrhage). These data support the efficacy, deliverability, and safety of AXS Vecta for mechanical thrombectomy

Compact Localized States in Electric Circuit Flatband Lattices

We generate compact localized states in an electrical diamond lattice, comprised of only capacitors and inductors, via local driving near its flatband frequency. We compare experimental results to numerical simulations and find very good agreement. We also examine the stub lattice, which features a flatband of a different class where neighboring compact localized states share lattice sites. We find that local driving, while exciting the lattice at that flatband frequency, is unable to isolate a single compact localized state due to their non-orthogonality. Finally, we introduce lattice nonlinearity and showcase the realization of nonlinear compact localized states in the diamond lattice. Our findings pave the way of applying flatband physics to complex electric circuit dynamics
