    La jurisprudencia colombiana, emanada de la Corte Constitucional y de la sala penal de la Corte Suprema de Justicia, se ha pronunciado sobre el consumo de sustancias ilícitas, a las que se refiere el artículo 376 del Código Penal, llegando a la conclusión de que el bien jurídico, protegido con la prohibición allí contenida, no autoriza al Estado para intervenir en la órbita interna de sus ciudadanos y, en ese sentido, se ha mantenido clara la postura de que la conducta referida al consumo no tiene la potencialidad de afectar los bienes jurídicos tutelados. A partir de esta premisa se identifican y analizan los argumentos a partir de los cuales ambas cortes - Constitucional y Corte Suprema- han llegado a tal conclusión. Por otra parte, dicha despenalización del consumo de sustancias psicotrópicas o drogas sintéticas, no ha tenido como correlato la consagración de una previsión legal que haga compatible el supuesto referido a la coexistencia de la despenalización del consumo, por un lado, con la prohibición del comercio de este tipo de sustancias, por otro, y, por ello, se expondrá también la forma en la que la jurisprudencia ha puesto en evidencia la existencia de ambas situaciones, pero, en todo caso, sin plantear alternativas que permitan compatibilizarlas.     Carbon cycling in a Patagonian fjord: Strength of biological vs. physical pump

    Póster presentado en la 2nd International Ocean Research Conference, celebrada en Barcelona del 17 al 21 de noviembre de 2014.Understanding the role of the pelagic “biological and physical pump” in carbon cycling is critical to climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts especially in coastal areas characterized by intense biogeochemical cycling. Fjords are among the few coastal regions that appear to be net annual sinks for atmosphericCO2. Vertical profiles of temperature and salinity were collected with a CTD revealing intense vertical structure in the water column that could be summarised as 2 layers with a transition-mixing region .Spatio-temporal sampling of physical and biogeochemical (C system, nutrients, Phyto- and Zooplankton, in situ dissolved pCO2) parameters was conducted in Comau Fjord (Puerto Montt-Chile) during Austral spring from the surface and deep layers. Spatial variation in water column structure in the fjord was minimal, however the depth of the upper layer varies probably depending on the surface-water inputs. Surface waters had significantly lower pCO2 values compared to the atmosphere and deeper water. Concentrations of suspended material and chlorophyll a were higher deeper in the water column, suggesting concentration process of material across the halocline. Overall, concentrations of particulate matter and mesozooplankton (during the study period), were low compared to many mid-latitude regions, and near absent in the vicinity of the 2 rivers entering the fjord. The low surface water pCO2 values suggest negative air-water CO2fluxes predominates within Comau Fjord during Austral spring. This preliminary study suggests that the geochemical properties of watershed and the low [DIC] of surface-water inputs, i.e., the physical pump, seems to play an important role in this region.This work was supported by the project 2013CL0013 funded by the CSIC, Fundacion Endesa and Fundación San Ignacio del Huinay.     The Role of Topical Timolol in the Treatment of Infantile Hemangiomas: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

    To date the efficacy and safety of topical timolol in the treatment of infantile hemangioma has not been reviewed and analysed systematically. We collated all published data on the efficacy and safety of topical timolol in the treatment of infantile hemangioma. A total of 31 studies with 691 patients were included. The fixed effects pooled estimate of the response rate defined as any improvement from baseline of infantile hemangioma after treatment with topical timolol was significant (RR = 8.96; 95% CI 5.07-15.47; heterogeneity test p = 0.99), and the treatment was overall well tolerated. However, the quality of evidence was low to moderate. Topical timolol is an effective treatment for small infantile hemangioma, with no significant adverse effects noted. However, there is still a need for adequately powered randomised controlled trials

    3D Bioprinting and Near-Field Electrospinning Composite Scaffolds for the Bone-Ligament Interface

    3D bioprinting is an additive manufacturing technique that can utilize a range of bioactive materials to construct specific architectures that mimic native tissue. Near-field electrospinning (NFE) offers precise alignment control to create non-woven mats with high tensile strengths. We built a custom E-spin printer that enables layer-by-layer alternating deposition between 3D bioprinting and NFE to create composite scaffolds for the bone-ligament interface. This complex region is difficult to simulate due to its functionally graded mechanical and biochemical properties. We created NFE poly(caprolactone) highly aligned micro-fibers which formed collagen fibril-like bundles. Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate with decellularized bone was encased in the PCL fibers to create bony ligament support structures in a composite scaffold. Cytotoxicity of all materials was determined through a Live/Dead assay (Thermo Fisher) with NIH/3T3 cells. The materials and the composite scaffold were seeded with 3T3 cells and cultured for three days before undergoing an immunocytochemistry staining (ICC) to assess cell adhesion and spreading. Increased adhesion and spreading on decellularized bone scaffolds along with cell elongation in the direction of the fibers suggests the ability of the scaffold to encourage osteoblastic differentiation and ligamentous tissue formation, though a longitudinal study is still underway. Mechanical results suggest that the composite scaffolds have increased compressive strength over PEGDA alone as the PCL fibers constrict horizontal elongation, thus yielding a higher compressive modulus. The PCL fibers demonstrated a tensile strength approaching native ligament (3.96 ± 1.10 MPa), which shows promise as the ligament phase of the scaffold. The E-spin printer’s versatility with materials of disparate viscosities enabled the layer-by-layer fabrication of composite (PCL/PEGDA+bone) scaffolds that begin to mimic the complex nature of the bone-ligament interface

Of them, 91.7 % and 97.2 % use, respectively, a chair and a desk that do not adjust to their anthropometric characteristics and use furniture that is larger than what they need. The regulations for furniture dimensions currently in place for the studied population are not adequate because the chairs and desks included are not adequate Conclusions. There is a high mismatch level between school furniture and students’ anthropometric characteristics. We propose the use of the European regulations for furniture dimensions, with varying heights per grade or adjustable furniture that can be adapted to the anthropometric characteristics of all students.     Chemical trends in the Galactic halo from APOGEE data

    The galaxy formation process in the cold dark matter scenario can be constrained from the analysis of stars in the Milky Way’s halo system. We examine the variation of chemical abundances in distant halo stars observed by the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE), as a function of distance from the Galactic Centre (r) and iron abundance ([M/H]), in the range 5 r 30 kpc and −2.5 15 kpc and [M/H] > −1.1 (larger in the case of O, Mg, and S) with respect to the nearest halo stars. This result confirms previous claims for low-α stars found at larger distances. Chemical differences in elements with other nucleosynthetic origins (Ni, K, Na, and Al) are also detected. C and N do not provide reliable information about the interstellar medium from which stars formed because our sample comprises red giant branch and asymptotic giant branch stars and can experience mixing of material to their surfaces

    Postural sway in volleyball players

    The aim of this work was to analyze the postural sway of volleyball players in bipedal quiet stance. The center of pressure (CoP) was measured in 46 athletes and 42 non-athlete controls. Each subject was tested in 10 different conditions, 5 with their eyes open and 5 with their eyes closed. Volleyball players showed greater CoP ellipses, suggesting a different model of sensory integration in their postural stability. A multivariate approach to data analysis demonstrated that the postural sway of the two groups was different when the subjects kept their eyes open, but it was not with visual deprivation. This could partially be explained by the better ‘dynamic' visual acuity of athletes, since possible (‘static') refractive errors were corrected for both groups. Furthermore, we expected that national players, engaged in more intensive training programs, were more different from controls than regional ones, and that defensive players, whose role requires the quickest reaction times, were more different from controls than hitters. Our results confirmed these hypothesis.     A High Pressure Operando Spectroscopy Examination of Bimetal Interactions in ‘Metal Efficient’ Palladium/In2O3/Al2O3 Catalysts for CO2 Hydrogenation

    CO2 hydrogenation to methanol has the potential to serve as a sustainable route to a wide variety of hydrocarbons, fuels and plastics in the quest for net zero. Synergistic Pd/In2O3 (Palldium on Indium Oxide) catalysts show high CO2 conversion and methanol selectivity, enhancing methanol yield. The identity of the optimal active site for this reaction is unclear, either as a Pd−In alloy, proximate metals, or distinct sites. In this work, we demonstrate that metal-efficient Pd/In2O3 species dispersed on Al2O3 can match the performance of pure Pd/In2O3 systems. Further, we follow the evolution of both Pd and In sites, and surface species, under operando reaction conditions using X-ray Absorption Spectroscpy (XAS) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. In doing so, we can determine both the nature of the active sites and the influence on the catalytic mechanism
