Preliminary Test of Agri-Environmental Scheme Implementation in Farmland in Northern Slope of Mount Slamet

An Agri-Environmental Scheme (AES) was designed to enhance flower availability in crops using local wild plants. The goals of this research were to determine the impact of four wild plants on three cash corps, focusing on the diversity and abundance of insect pollinators, and to test the efficacy of this scheme using farmland on the northern slope of Mount Slamet. This research was done using a split block design, with the three cash crops as blocks (strawberry [Fragaria x ananassa Duchesne], chili pepper [Capsicum spp.], and tomatoes [Solanum lycopersicum L.]) and four wild plant species as treatments (Cleome rutidosperma, Borreria laevicaulis, Euphorbia heterophylla, and Tridax procumbens) at different precentages (0, 5, 10, and 15 %) of cash crop plant density. The results show that growing wild plants with cash crops enhanced the abundance and diversity of insect pollinators. Moreover, the addition of wild plant species to the crops at four densities had significantly different effects on insect pollinators in terms of abundance and diversity. The combination of 15 % C. rutidospermae and tomatoes had the largest population of insect pollinators. From the experiments it concluded that an AES could be implemented in farmland on the northern slope of Mount Slamet

Loss of flotillin expression results in weakened desmosomal adhesion and Pemphigus vulgaris-like localisation of desmoglein-3 in human keratinocytes

Desmosomes are adhesion plaques that mediate cell-cell adhesion in many tissues, including the epidermis, and generate mechanical resistance to tissues. The extracellular domains of desmosomal cadherin proteins, desmogleins and desmocollins, are required for the interaction with cadherins of the neighbouring cells, whereas their cytoplasmic tails associate with cytoplasmic proteins which mediate connection to intermediate filaments. Disruption of desmosomal adhesion by mutations, autoantibodies or bacterial toxins results in severe human disorders of e.g. the skin and the heart. Despite the vital role of desmosomes in various tissues, the details of their molecular assembly are not clear. We here show that the two members of the flotillin protein family directly interact with the cytoplasmic tails of desmogleins. Depletion of flotillins in human keratinocytes results in weakened desmosomal adhesion and reduced expression of desmoglein-3, most likely due to a reduction in the desmosomal pool due to increased turnover. In the absence of flotillins, desmoglein-3 shows an altered localisation pattern in the cell-cell junctions of keratinocytes, which is highly similar to the localisation observed upon treatment with pemphigus vulgaris autoantibodies. Thus, our data show that flotillins, which have previously been connected to the classical cadherins, are also of importance for the desmosomal cell adhesion

The productivity of strawberry (Fragaria sp.) depends on the presence of pollinator insects that need nectar or pollen as their food. The diversity and the population size of pollinator insects can be increased by the companion planting of Borreria laevicaulis among the strawberry. This research aimed to determine the diversity of pollinator insects of strawberry plantation companion by B. laevicaulis and to determine the relationship between the diversity of pollinator insects with the strawberry fruit produced. This research was conducted in the strawberry plantation of Serang Village, of the District Karangreja, Purbalingga, from June to August 2012. The research was designed to determine the effect of companion planting of B. laevicaulis at the 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% of the total individuals of strawberry. The results showed that the companion planting of B. laevicaulis in the strawberry field did not affect the species diversity of pollinator insects. But the B. laevicaulis companion planting affected the amount of strawberry yielded. The maximum yield was obtained by planting B. laevicaulis at the 10% of the strawberry individuals; it was increased by 76.12% of the control without companion planting

Increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes global climate change seriously. Forests serve as an important asset that can absorb and store carbon in the form of biomass. One type of potential forest as a carbon sink is forests resin. The amount of carbon stored by standing very dynamic and varies according to the age of its standing. Therefore, studies will be needed to determine the effect of age on biomass and carbon stocks stands resin, determine the relationship between age and standing biomass and carbon stocks resin, and knowing the optimum resin stand age in storing biomass and carbon stocks. This research was conducted at the stands of resin RPH Karang Gandul, KPH Banyumas Timur for four weeks in May 2016. The method used is a survey with a sampling technique using cluster random sampling. Stands resin used in the study were classified into five age groups with 5 replicates. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with an error rate of 5% and continued with LSD for further test results were significant and regression analysis to determine the relationship of age with biomass and carbon stocks stands resin. The results showed that the age effect on biomass and carbon stocks stands resin, the relationship formed between the age of stand with biomass and carbon stocks are quadratic, and age optimum in storing biomass and carbon stocks is 35 years

Insulin and TOR signal in parallel through FOXO and S6K to promote epithelial wound healing

The TOR and Insulin/IGF signalling (IIS) network controls growth, metabolism and ageing. Although reducing TOR or insulin signalling can be beneficial for ageing, it can be detrimental for wound healing, but the reasons for this difference are unknown. Here we show that IIS is activated in the cells surrounding an epidermal wound in Drosophila melanogaster larvae, resulting in PI3K activation and redistribution of the transcription factor FOXO. Insulin and TOR signalling are independently necessary for normal wound healing, with FOXO and S6K as their respective effectors. IIS is specifically required in cells surrounding the wound, and the effect is independent of glycogen metabolism. Insulin signalling is needed for the efficient assembly of an actomyosin cable around the wound, and constitutively active myosin II regulatory light chain suppresses the effects of reduced IIS. These findings may have implications for the role of insulin signalling and FOXO activation in diabetic wound healing

Austria: Heta Asset Resolution Restructuring, 2015

Hypo Alpe Adria (HAA) was Austria’s sixth-largest bank by assets at the time of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) of 2007–2009. HAA pursued a growth strategy in southeastern Europe in the years preceding the GFC—emboldened liability guarantee from the Austrian state of Carinthia—which proved troublesome for HAA’s loan portfolio and led to large write-downs in autumn 2008. From December 2008 to April 2014, Austria provided EUR 5.8 billion in total capital injections—during which time the government nationalized HAA. Per European Commission (EC) authorization of State Aid, Austria had to submit a restructuring plan, which the EC approved in September 2013. The restructuring plan called for three parts: (1) the sale of HAA’s Austrian subsidiary, (2) the sale of HAA’s southeastern European network, and (3) the creation of an asset management vehicle, Heta Asset Resolution AG (Heta), to liquidate what remained. Heta faced ongoing challenges. In March 2015, the Financial Market Authority (FMA) issued a resolution decree for Heta after an asset quality review revealed a capital shortfall. The FMA imposed a temporary moratorium on Heta’s liabilities until May 2016 to provide an opportunity to value assets and deploy the bail-in tool under the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive. Heta’s creditors challenged the use of bail-in, given Carinthia’s guarantee. In September 2016, Carinthia offered creditors zero-coupon bonds, resulting in a 10% haircut for senior creditors and a 55% haircut for junior creditors in 2016; however, over the following year, most creditors accepted a government offer to buy back their zero-coupon bonds with an additional 5% haircut. Because asset sales went better than expected, the FMA declared that the resolution of Heta was complete on December 21, 2021, two years ahead of schedule. Legacy senior creditors received additional compensation. The Austrian federal government had EUR 6.5 billion in net losses with regard to the recapitalization of HAA and later resolution of Heta; the Carinthian state also lost EUR 1.2 billion from its guarantee. The bail-in cost legacy creditors about EUR 2.1 billion
