The implementation of contextual teaching and learning in speaking to the first semester student of Business Administration in Hang Tuah University aims to investigate the strategies of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the advantages of using(REACT) as one of the CTL technique. English for business is given to the students who learn English for Specific Purposes. The target of mastering this second language acquisition is able to perform well in spoken English according to their profession. In addition, The findings revealed that the teaching speaking was successful to improve students' pronunciation and fluency. The benefits of applying REACT: (1) engaging students in the speaking activity; (2) increasing students' motivation to participate actively in the speaking class; (3) helping students to solve their problems; (4) providing ways for students to discuss or interact with their friends. Based on these findings, it is recommended that CTL be implemented in teaching speaking

The Use of Heroic History R.A. Kartini as Reading Material in Assessing the Student Reading Comprehension

The improvement of student reading skill involves some efforts in choosing the authentic material. The use of a heroic story, R.A. Kartini gives moral impacts for students' character building and language skills improvement. The reading assessment provides some activities which explores the content of the reading text. The activities are identifying the good reader behaviors that have been taught and assessed, collecting evidence that is related to the good reader behaviors, analyzing the evidence on the good reader behaviors, and making an instructional decision to improve the reading skill. The advantages of using reading assessment activities to assessed the student reading comprehension are students participate in giving opinion, able to attach meaning to words or sentences, make summary prediction, describe the problem, give relevant solutions, retell the story in chronological order, and use prior knowledge in implementing the moral value. The analysis shows that students have the good reader behaviors as it is proven from their checklist score. The reading assessment gives result that portfolio is a recommended activity to improve the student reading comprehension

This study was conducted to find out the teacher correction techniques on students writing composition. There are some techniques that can promote to correct the students composition, and the elements corrected show the errors of students' sentence pattern commonly appear. Moreover, this study also answers the student perceptions toward the teacher correction. The students' perceptions are the guideline for the teacher in choosing the most suitable techniques which match with their need for composition revision and the elements corrected also show how the ability of students in mastering sentences pattern, vocabulary, and another skills of languages

Desain dan Implementasi Fraction Collector Menggunakan MCs 51

    Get PDF
This paper presents a design and an implementation of a chemical laboratory equipment which serves to collect automatically liquid droplets from a column in the chromatography colomn. This equipment uses MCs 51 family for setting hatching time, displaying hatching counter, and moving the dropper in X and Y axes. Two stepper motors are used to fill 225 tubs with each volume is 15 ml. Therefore, we have a Fraction Collector. The results shows that our system works well, all droplets occurs in the middle of the tube, and the time for transfering a dropler  from one tube to another time is 6.5 seconds. Keywords: chromatography colomn, MCs51 controller, test tube, Fraction Collector.

Analisis Faktor Penghambatpenerapan Kebijakan Sanitary Landfill Di Tpa Jatibarang Semarang Sesuai Dengan Undang-undang No. 18 Tahun 2008 Tentang Pengelolaan Sampah

Population grows significantly changing consumption pattern has increasing amount of waste in community that affect diversity of garbage in Semarang City. In order to diminish the amount of waste and prevent its detrimental effect on environment, the government issued Constitution Number 18 Year 2008 about Waste Management which elaborates mechanism of waste management, namely Sanitary Landfill. Since 1995, Sanitary Landfill has been applied in Jatibarang Landfill, Semarang, but nowadays implementation is not applied optimally as several problems found. The purpose of this research is analyze inhibiting factors of the Sanitary Landfill's application in Jatibarang Landfill as well as issues in waste management in Semarang City. This research is a descriptive analytic research which uses a qualitative approach. Data collected through interviews with informants, direct observation in the study site, and documentation studies conducted on various documents relevant to this study. The result shows that final processing of waste in the Jatibarang Landfill tend to use the Controlled Landfill system as Sanitary Landfill system cannot function properly. It is influenced by the separation of waste by resources has not worked well, increase in waste generation, budget realization has not be absorbed maximally, and weather factor.Recommendations that can be given are raising public awareness of waste management through government programs, involving the Head of Neighborhood Unit in oversight of waste management, improvement of policy formulation of waste management in landfill, and maximized budget absorption by considering the scale of priority of waste problems

Large N Field Theory and AdS Tachyons

In non-supersymmetric orbifolds of N =4 super Yang-Mills, conformal invariance is broken by the logarithmic running of double-trace operators -- a leading effect at large N. A tachyonic instability in AdS_5 has been proposed as the bulk dual of double-trace running. In this paper we make this correspondence more precise. By standard field theory methods, we show that the double-trace beta function is quadratic in the coupling, to all orders in planar perturbation theory. Tuning the double-trace coupling to its (complex) fixed point, we find conformal dimensions of the form 2 + i b, as formally expected for operators dual to bulk scalars that violate the stability bound. We also show that conformal invariance is broken in perturbation theory if and only if dynamical symmetry breaking occurs. Our analysis is applicable to a general large N field theory with vanishing single-trace beta functions.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures. v3: small changes, version published on JHEP

Multiple ethyl precursor, photolysis wavelength, reactor material, and coating combinations were used. We reinvestigated the temperature dependence of the title reaction's rate coefficient to resolve inconsistencies in existing data. The current results indicate that some literature values for the rate coefficient may indeed be slightly too large. The experimental work was complemented with master equation simulations. We used the current and some previous rate coefficient measurements to optimize the values of key parameters in the master equation model. After optimization, the model was able to reproduce experimental falloff curves and C2H4 + HO2 center dot yields. We then used the model to perform simulations over wide temperature (200-1500 K) and pressure (10-4-102 bar) ranges and provide the results in PLOG format to facilitate their use in atmospheric and combustion models.Peer reviewe
