Krakow is considered to be one of the top academic centres in Poland. In the local universities nearly 200 thousand students acquire knowledge. Only a few of them are permanent inhabitants of Krakow. For this reason, also, annually the market of apartments rent in the capital city of Małopolska in the period of holiday observes fluctuations of prices. At the same time students (or their parents) prefer the proximity of the chosen academic centre or the communication accessibility over the standards of the premises. This allows to sustain the prices of rent of apartments in this neighbourhood and constitutes a stable source of income for real estate owners that could not be attractive for the remaining social groups. For the purpose of supplying information concerning the apartments preferred by the students a study was conducted, in which questions were asked to individuals who now or in recent years rented an apartment in Krakow and they are or have been students of the AGH University of Science and Technology. The post was chosen because of the compact structure of educational institutions, proximity attractive zones, and thus expensive, and the ease of obtaining information from respondents as a result of the conducted studies it is possible to consider that among the surveyed most often rent contracts were concluded for apartments with two rooms nearby, or with a good connection to the universities. It was also noticed that the most important factor having impact on the average price for the rent is the location, in the particular urban units of the city of Krakow it differs from the average by a few hundred PLN. Another, relatively obvious criterion determining the height of the rate is the technical condition and furnishing standard of the apartment. The terms on which the rent of the apartment is profitable for its owner were verified. Finally, it was noticed that the benefits arising from the rent of the premises to students are disproportionate for different parties. The information obtained by means of the conducted studies and completed analyses is helpful both for people willing, in the future, to take advantage of the benefits from leasing an apartment, as well as for thousands of students who each year are struggling against the fundamental choice of the place where they will spend the nearest months or years.AGH University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Mining Surveying and Environmental Engineering, Department of Geomatics, Krakow, PolandElżbieta Jasińsk

The land market is usually influenced by many factors, but the key to some of them is decisive when buying a property. These are both physical features of the property, such as the area, shape or class of the land as well as external factors related to the popularity of the area or the availability of communication. The group of factors that decide about the purchase is certainly the vulnerability of land to natural phenomena related to mass movements. They belong to factors that have a very negative impact on the price of real estate, limiting the possibility of its use, and above all buildings. In a situation where data on mass movements are available in a given area, these data directly affect the provisions of the study of conditions and directions of spatial development of the commune and, as a consequence, also local plans. The article analyzes the impact of landslide areas on property prices. The research was carried out in the municipality of Wieliczka where in 2008 a comprehensive assessment of mass movements was carried out, defining their character and making their classification

Fear learning increases the number of polyribosomes associated with excitatory and inhibitory synapses in the barrel cortex

Associative fear learning, resulting from whisker stimulation paired with application of a mild electric shock to the tail in a classical conditioning paradigm, changes the motor behavior of mice and modifies the cortical functional representation of sensory receptors involved in the conditioning. It also induces the formation of new inhibitory synapses on double-synapse spines of the cognate barrel hollows. We studied density and distribution of polyribosomes, the putative structural markers of enhanced synaptic activation, following conditioning. By analyzing serial sections of the barrel cortex by electron microscopy and stereology, we found that the density of polyribosomes was significantly increased in dendrites of the barrel activated during conditioning. The results revealed fear learning-induced increase in the density of polyribosomes associated with both excitatory and inhibitory synapses located on dendritic spines (in both single- and double-synapse spines) and only with the inhibitory synapses located on dendritic shafts. This effect was accompanied by a significant increase in the postsynaptic density area of the excitatory synapses on single-synapse spines and of the inhibitory synapses on double-synapse spines containing polyribosomes. The present results show that associative fear learning not only induces inhibitory synaptogenesis, as demonstrated in the previous studies, but also stimulates local protein synthesis and produces modifications of the synapses that indicate their potentiation

Due to the high demand on the housing market, it may seem that every investment will find buyers’ interest and the key is its economic dimension. Meanwhile, in the Krakow real estate market, one can observe the trend of SMART market creation, in which the added value is the quality of life of residents of a given investment, especially in terms of using renewable energy sources and ensuring a well-organized space around the investment. The implementation of intelligent energy networks and the widespread use of renewable energy sources will result in more efficient energy transfer, waste recycling, faster identification of the threat and repair after a possible failure. Using, for example, the resources of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, the implementation of ecological solutions is not related to the excessive price of such investments, and guarantees a higher quality of life for new owners. The article presents good practices in the design of housing estates in the city of Krakow. One of such closed settlements is "Osiedle Fi", whose location guarantees good public transport, additionally underground parking places a lot of green areas outside, positively affecting the microclimate of the area. The buildings are made of natural materials and the common parts of the property are illuminated from solar energy. The use of renewable energy sources favors both the environment and reduces the cost of maintaining the property. Rainwater is also used. The next smart housing estate is "Osiedle Ozon". It is a comfortable housing estate with functional land development. Among its main attributes, it is worth mentioning a lot of greenery and naturally diversified terrain. There were used plant species, which have the ability to catch harmful chemicals or dust from soil and air. In this work, a statistical analysis was conducted to compare the prices of housing properties in these two selected settlements to the prices of real estate in the area, indicating statistically insignificant differences in the economic aspect, with significant differences in the quality of life of the potential buyer

    Correct human cardiac nomenclature

Proper heart’s nomenclature is very important in daily clinical practice and research studies, andwhen it is consistent, it can facilitate better communication between different medical specialists. Thegeneral rule of the anatomy is to describe organs and their structures in attitudinally correct position. However, the use of the old-fashioned Valentine position (where the heart is described as if it werestanding on its apex) is still in use to describe important cardiac structures. Upon closer analysis, all main chambers of the heart and their associated subcomponents have mislabeled structures that should be renamed. In this article we aimed to emphasize the limitations of Valentinian nomenclature, presentproper anatomical names of the most important heart’s structures and advocate to change certain mis-labeled anatomical structures. Attitudinally correct designations presented in this study will benefit allmedical specialties, and they will reinforce the importance of consistent orientational naming. Correctnaming of heart’s structures will also help improve communication between different medical specialists

The construction of such a large road facility as the city beltway can not have an impact on the environment. In addition to the obvious benefits to transport, attention should be paid to the environment of the area, in particular noise and air pollution. In December 2017, the Minister of Infrastructure and Construction signed the investment program for the implementation of the northern Krakow bypass road. General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, the Kraków branch has announced an open tender for its implementation into the EU. Today, in our tender for the design and construction of the northern bypass road of Krakow, 8 offers was received. All tenderers give the date of completion of all works within 47 months. The length of the two-lane section of the beltway is about 12 km, each roadway will have 3 lanes. The POK (North Beltway od Cracow) will run mostly in the area of the Zielonki commune, through the towns of: Zielonki, Bibice, Węgrzce, Bosutów, Dziekanowice and Batowice. The analysis carried out show a very large increase in the value of real estates located in the northern part of Krakow and adjacent areas in recent years. According to the authors, the construction of the northern beltway and easier access to the center of Krakow through the modernization of the November 29 avenue will contribute to even greater interest in real estates located in this area. Real estate prices will certainly increase, rather only at the beginning of the investment. Residents will gain the comfort of an alternative transport line, but there will also be an increase in noise and air pollution, which is a particularly important problem in and around Krakow. The article presents the validation of these three issues in relation to changes in the real estate market in the commune of Zielonki

Daily rhythm of synapse turnover in mouse somatosensory cortex

The whisker representations in the somatosensory barrel cortex of mice are modulated by sensory inputs associated with animal motor behavior which shows circadian rhythmicity. In a C57/BL mouse strain kept under a light/dark (LD 12:12) regime, we observed daily structural changes in the barrel cortex, correlated with the locomotor activity level. Stereological analysis of serial electron microscopic sections of the barrel cortex of mice sacrificed during their active or rest period, revealed an increase in the total numerical density of synapses and in the density of excitatory synapses located on dendritic spines during the rest, as well as an increase in the density of inhibitory synapses located on double-synapse spines during the active period. This is the first report demonstrating a daily rhythm in remodeling of the mammalian somatosensory cortex, manifested by changes in the density of synapses and dendritic spines. Moreover, we have found that the excitatory and inhibitory synapses are differently regulated during the day/night cycle
