    A proposal of fuzzy connective with learning function and its application to fuzzy retrieval system

    A new fuzzy connective and a structure of network constructed by fuzzy connectives are proposed to overcome a drawback of conventional fuzzy retrieval systems. This network represents a retrieval query and the fuzzy connectives in networks have a learning function to adjust its parameters by data from a database and outputs of a user. The fuzzy retrieval systems employing this network are also constructed. Users can retrieve results even with a query whose attributes do not exist in a database schema and can get satisfactory results for variety of thinkings by learning function

    Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become a critical tool for dental examination. MRI has many advantages over radiographic examination methods, including the lack of a requirement for patient exposure and the ability to capture high-contrast images of various tissue and organ types. However, MRI also has several limitations, including long examination times and the existence of metallic or motion artifacts. A cardiac imaging method using cine sequences was developed in the 1990s. This technique allows for analysis of heart movement and functional blood flow. Moreover, this method has been applied in dentistry. Recent research involving 3T MRI has led to the achievement of a temporal resolution of <10 ms, surpassing the frame rate of typical video recording. The current review introduces the history and principles of the cine sequence method and its application to the oral and maxillofacial regions

    Inappropriate implantable cardioverter defibrillator shocks—incidence, effect, and implications for driver licensing

    PurposePatients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) have an ongoing risk of sudden incapacitation that may cause traffic accidents. However, there are limited data on the magnitude of this risk after inappropriate ICD therapies. We studied the rate of syncope associated with inappropriate ICD therapies to provide a scientific basis for formulating driving restrictions.MethodsInappropriate ICD therapy event data between 1997 and 2014 from 50 Japanese institutions were analyzed retrospectively. The annual risk of harm (RH) to others posed by a driver with an ICD was calculated for private driving habits. We used a commonly employed annual RH to others of 5 in 100,000 (0.005%) as an acceptable risk threshold.ResultsOf the 4089 patients, 772 inappropriate ICD therapies occurred in 417 patients (age 61 ± 15 years, 74% male, and 65% secondary prevention). Patients experiencing inappropriate therapies had a mean number of 1.8 ± 1.5 therapy episodes during a median follow-up period of 3.9 years. No significant differences were found in the age, sex, or number of inappropriate therapies between patients receiving ICDs for primary or secondary prevention. Only three patients (0.7%) experienced syncope associated with inappropriate therapies. The maximum annual RH to others after the first therapy in primary and secondary prevention patients was calculated to be 0.11 in 100,000 and 0.12 in 100,000, respectively.ConclusionsWe found that the annual RH from driving was far below the commonly cited acceptable risk threshold. Our data provide useful information to supplement current recommendations on driving restrictions in ICD patients with private driving habits

    Even though the purpose of the services provided by occupational therapy is to help and to support the daily life of clients, the actual services extend to a wide range of daily activities. Thus, research in occupational therapy covers a wide range of activities which can be modified and changed according to the needs of clients. Research activities conducted by clinical psychologists and English teachers who staff the Department of Occupational Therapy at Aino University are also summarized below. [1. Research in Occupational Therapy for Physically Handicapped.] We are involved in a study of the efficient motion analysis in the activity of daily life (ADL) in part with the staff of the Department of Clinical Engineering. We analyze the muscle tone under various locomotive operations by quantifying muscle tone with surface electro-myography (EMG). We have studied the brain network related to memory and learning in the training tasks that enable effective learning skills and their clinical application

    The influence of melt infiltration on the Li and Mg isotopic composition of the Horoman Peridotite Massif

    We have analysed the Li and Mg isotope ratios of a suite of samples from the Horoman peridotite massif. Our results show that most Li and all Mg isotopic compositions of the Horoman peridotites are constant over 100 metres of continuous outcrop, yielding values for pristine mantle of δ7Li = 3.8 ± 1.4 ‰ (2SD, n = 9), δ25Mg = -0.12 ± 0.02 ‰ and δ26Mg = -0.23 ± 0.04 ‰ (2SD, n = 17), in keeping with values for undisturbed mantle xenoliths. However, there are also some anomalously low δ7Li values (-0.2 to 1.6 ‰), which coincide with locations that show enrichment of incompatible elements, indicative of the prior passage of small degree melts. We suggest Li diffused from the infiltrating melts with high [Li] into the low [Li] minerals and kinetically fractionated 7Li/6Li as a result. Continued diffusion after the melt flow had ceased would have resulted in the disappearance of this isotopically light signature in less than 15 Ma. In order to preserve this feature, the melt infiltration must have been a late stage event and the massif must have subsequently cooled over a maximum of ∼0.3 Ma from peak temperature (950°C, assuming the melts are hydrous) to Li closure temperature (700°C), likely during emplacement. The constant δ26Mg values of Horoman peridotites suggest that chemical potential gradients caused by melt infiltration were insufficient to drive associated δ26Mg fractionation greater than our external precision of 0.03 ‰
