A Platform-Based Software Design Methodology for Embedded Control Systems: An Agile Toolkit

    No full text
A discrete control system, with stringent hardware constraints, is effectively an embedded real-time system and hence requires a rigorous methodology to develop the software involved. The development methodology proposed in this paper adapts agile principles and patterns to support the building of embedded control systems, focusing on the issues relating to a system's constraints and safety. Strong unit testing, to ensure correctness, including the satisfaction of timing constraints, is the foundation of the proposed methodology. A platform-based design approach is used to balance costs and time-to-market in relation to performance and functionality constraints. It is concluded that the proposed methodology significantly reduces design time and costs, as well as leading to better software modularity and reliability

Financialisation and development: How can emerging economies catch up?

The influences of financialisation over emerging economies have drawn significant attention on whether these nations are able or not to overcome its constraints and promote satisfactory development levels. The possibilities for overcoming financial dominance, however, deserve further attention on what concerns its structural causes and policy alternatives. This article has two objectives. First, it formalises three key characteristics behind the financialisation of developing economies, focusing on some key elements that differentiate financialisation indeveloped versus emerging economies: interest rate behaviour; exchange rate volatility and balance of payments dominance. Secondly, it discusses some strategies for developing countries to overcome the effects of financialisation based on the hypothesis of increasingpolicy space, which allows these economies to retain autonomy on their macroeconomic policies and to conduct domestic policies in an integrated scenario

The internationalization of the Brazilian Public Prosecutor's Office : anti-corruption and corporate investments in the 2000s

The success of different categories of legal professionals in building positions of state power in Brazil since the end of the military regime is in line with the legitimation of models of law and international cooperation. This article focuses on the connections between Brazilian legal actors and the international ‘fight against corruption’. By looking at the international connections of Brazil’s Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF), we aim to show how the promotion of anti-corruption models of law is the result of corporate cooperation strategies. We cite as evidence overseas travel by MPF agents and their connections with the international field in recent decades. We start by analyzing cooperation documents and then attempt to trace the MPF’s pathway towards internationalization during the 2000s

Logistics as a competitive advantage in retail organizations

    Get PDF
Retail plays an important role in the trade sector of the Brazilian economy, with net operating revenues of nearly BRL 1.7 trillion and more than 7 million workers in 2018, according to the latest Annual Trade Survey from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The entry of large multinational companies into the Brazilian retail market, where it is worth highlighting Amazon, has negatively impacted the market of Brazilian retail companies, which still use archaic methods and disqualified labor in their operations and processes. Amazon provides better logistics services that directly add value to the quality of products offered through a leaner and more profitable supply chain. Additionally, the behavioral changes brought about by Covid-19 have made consumers more satisfied with online shopping experiences than with visits to physical stores. The increase in internet shopping and the reduction of visits to sales outlets has caused a migration of consumption to digital media, which may generate long-term transformations in the strategies of companies. Thus, the objective of this research is to provide a conceptual proposal of the use of logistics as a competitive advantage in retail organizations, considering the best management practices for the logistics sector. As a research methodology, a systematic literature review was adopted, based on the PRISMA protocol, allowing the identification of 94 records, 12 of which were included in the literature review, due to their adherence to the researched theme. The main contribution of this paper is the development of a conceptual proposal for the use of logistics as a competitive advantage in retail organizations, comprising five aspects: Information Systems, Application of KPIs aligned with the Strategic Objectives of the Organization, Creating Value for Products, Modern Management Concept and, Need for Organizations to recognize the Benefits and Advantages of Logistics

Abstract: An analysis of the process of the implementation of an official policy of the government towards football and that of the transition of its athletes from the status of amateurs to professionals, through the local sports media and the official documentation of the Conselho Regional de Desportos do Paraná, this dissertation investigates four political agents and their activity in the paranaense sports field, during the period understood as the Revolução de 1930 and the end of the first Vargas administration in 1945. Employing the concept of Pierre Bourdie of fields, the purpose of this work is to demonstrate that these four political agents, also military officers implicated in the tenentistas movement of the 1920's, that were afterwards promoted in the armed forces hierarchy, in the aftermath of the 1930 revolution, disputed over the control of the administrative structure and the command over the paranaense sports field, in a political and sport quarrel. While considering, the main debate of that period, the transition of an amateur football structure towards a professional configuration, and the establishment of the Conselho Regional de Desportos a governmental branch functioning as political intervention of the Estado Novo in the sports structure, with the purpose of maintaining a surveillance over all the activities of the sports field including the athletes contracts. Resulting in the establishment of a bureaucratic channel between the sports elite leaders and the meander of national politics

Revisiting the Black Brane Thermodynamic in Asymptotically Lifshitz Spacetime in κ\kappa-Horndeski Gravity

In this article, we investigate the thermodynamics of an asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime within κ\kappa-Horndeski gravity where the κ\kappa-algebra will be implemented in the kinetic term of this theory. In our investigation, we considered the black brane solutions in (3+1)-dimensions, which is a solution of κ\kappa-Horndeski theory for any value of critical exponent. In the canonical Ensemble, we explore the evolution of thermodynamics quantities in function of critical exponents and of the κ\kappa-algebra.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure

Clinical and pathological aspects and cerebellar lectin binding in cattle poisoned with Solanum fastigiatum var. fastigiatum and Solanum bonariense

Microscopic and lectin histochemical studies were performed using the cerebella of 33 natural cases of Solanum fastigiatum var. fastigiatum intoxication in the cattle from southern Brazil and 2 natural and 4 experimental cases of Solanum bonariense from Uruguay. The following biotinylated lectins were used in both cases: WGA, sWGA, BS-I, Con-A, RCA-I, DBA, and UEA-I, with the addition of LCA in S. fastigiatum poisoning cases. Histologically, the lesions consisted of fine vacuolization, distention of portions of the Purkinje cells, axonal spheroids measuring 14-50 m in the granular cell layer and adjacent white matter and, proliferation of the Bergmann?s glia. Lectin histochemistry revealed strong reactivity of stored material in Purkinje neurons with the lectins sWGA, Con-A, and LCA in S. fastigiatum cases. A similar pattern was found in S. bonariense cases with a most intense reactions to WGA, and less intense reaction to Con-A, whereas BS-I and RCA-I binding was absent to poor in these neurons in all the cases studied.Lectin reactivity in Purkinje cells between cases was independent of cell damage (from mild to severe loss of neurons). Both S. fastigiatum and S. bonariense have similar lectin binding,  suggesting a similar pathogenesis. Since comparable binding patterns have been described in animals poisoned with swainsonine-containing plants, perhaps the toxins in these plants contain related glycosidaseinhibiting toxins or inhibit glycoprotein and lysosomal metabolism through some related mechanism. The results of this study showed that in spontaneous poisoning by S. fastigiatum and S. bonariense in the cattle, the pattern of lectin binding is similar to those observed in S. fastigiatum experimental conditions.Fil: Sant’Ana, Fabiano J.F.. MAP: an MP2 accuracy predictor for weak interactions from adiabatic connection theory

    Get PDF
Second order M{\o}ller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) approximates the exact Hartree-Fock (HF) adiabatic connection (AC) curve by a straight line. Thus by using the deviation of the exact curve from the linear behaviour, we construct an indicator for the accuracy of MP2. We then use an interpolation along the HF AC to transform the exact form of our indicator into a highly practical MP2 accuracy predictor (MAP) that comes at negligible additional computational cost. We show that this indicator is already applicable to systems that dissociate into fragments with a non-degenerate ground state, and we illustrate its usefulness by applying it to the S22 and S66 datasets.Comment: 8 pages, 7 Figure
