    Reflorestamento de clareiras na floresta nacional do Araripe com Vanillosmopsis arborea Baker

    A propagação assexuada do "Candeeiro" Vanillosmopsis arborea Baker, espécie produtora de óleo essencial rico em alfa-bisabolol, vem sendo testada com relativo sucesso em casa de vegetação localizada na Chapada do Araripe Crato, Ceará, sua área nativa. Por outro lado, o domínio dos tratos silviculturais ainda não foi atingido. O presente trabalho, teve como finalidade repovoar quatro áreas de clareiras na Chapada do Araripe, tendo em vista a preservação de uma espécie de reconhecido valor econômico e a observação do estabelecimento de 330 mudas produzidas por estaquia. As mudas mostraram-se resistentes, com crescimento médio entre 5,99-7,18 cm, lento, porém uniforme, estando o estabelecimento definitivo a mercê das condições climáticas da região

    Are YouTube Portuguese videos useful as a source of information on diabetes foot care? / Os vídeos em português do YouTube são úteis como fonte de informações sobre cuidados com o pé diabético?

    Studies have been assessed the importance of YouTube as a source of information for some health conditions, diseases or procedures. However, this platform provides an ever-growing, unregulated source, and some of their information may cause health risks to patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of Brazilian YouTube videos as a source of useful information about diabetes foot care. The website www.youtube.com was searched for the term “diabetes foot care” in Brazilian Portuguese to assess their usefulness as an information source. The videos were categorized as very useful, moderately useful, somewhat useful, and not useful, and categorized as organizational, professional, personal and advertisement. The search resulted in 8.080 videos, of which 200 were reviewed, and 159 videos uploaded on YouTube were analysed. Videos were categorized as very useful (6.29%), moderately useful (16.35%), somewhat useful (24.35%), and not useful (52.83%). The video source revealed the following classification: organizational, n = 76; professional, n = 11; personal, n= 46; and advertisement, n = 26. In conclusion, YouTube's Brazilian videos on diabetic foot care are popular, with varied sources and content. However, most of their content is not useful. Therefore, YouTube videos in Portuguese cannot be considered a good source of information about diabetes foot care

    Evaluation of blood flow in the fetal renal artery between the 22nd and 38th week in normal pregnancies

    OBJETIVO: descrever os valores encontrados para o índice de resistência (IR), índice de pulsatilidade (IP) e relação sístole/diástole (S/D) das artérias renais fetais em gestações sem complicações entre a 22ª e a 38ª semana de gestação e avaliar se estes valores variam durante esse período. MÉTODOS: estudo observacional, no qual 45 fetos de gestações não-complicadas foram avaliados na 22ª, 26ª, 30ª, 34ª e 38ª semanas gestacional. Os exames ultra-sonográficos com Doppler foram feitos por um único observador que utilizou aparelho com transdutor de 4 a 7 MHz. Para a aquisição do traçado de velocidade das artérias renais, uma amostra, com tamanho entre 1 e 2 mm, foi posicionada no terço médio da artéria renal para avaliação através da ultra-sonografia com Doppler pulsado, sempre por um único observador. A avaliação do IR, do IP e da relação S/D das artérias renais (direita e esquerda) foi realizada a partir de três ondas consecutivas utilizando-se o modo automático. Para demonstrar diferença nos valores dos índices com a variação da idade gestacional, comparamos os valores obtidos nas diferentes idades gestacionais através do teste ANOVA com medidas repetidas no tempo (repeated measures ANOVA) com pós-teste de Tukey. RESULTADOS: Não houve diferença significativa entre a artéria renal direita e a esquerda quando se compararam o IR, o IP e a relação S/D. Entretanto, observou-se modificação dos valores destes parâmetros entre a 22ª semana (IR=0,9 ± 0,02; IP=2,44 ± 0,2; relação S/D=11,6 ± 2,2; média ± desvio padrão do valor médio da artéria renal direita e esquerda) e a 38ª semana (IR=0,8 ± 0,03; IP=2,1 ± 0,2; relação S/D=8,7 ± 2,3) de idade gestacional. CONCLUSÕES: os parâmetros avaliados (IR, IP e relação S/D) apresentam valores decrescentes entre a 22ª e a 38ª semana, sem diferença entre os lados direito e esquerdo do feto.PURPOSE: to describe values found for the resistance index (RI), pulsatility index (PI) and the systole/diastole (S/D) ratio of fetal renal arteries in non-complicated gestations between the 22nd and the 38th week, and to evaluate whether those values vary along that period. METHODS: observational study, where 45 fetuses from non-complicated gestations have been evaluated in the 22nd, 26th, 30th and 38th weeks of gestational age. Doppler ultrasonography has been performed by the same observer, using a device with 4 to 7 MHz transducer. For the acquisition of the renal arteries velocity record, a 1 mm to 2 mm probe has been placed in the mean third of the renal artery for the evaluation through pulsed Doppler ultrasonography. The measurement of RI, PI and S/D ratio from three consecutive waves was performed with the automatic mode. To detect significant differences in the indexes' values along gestation, we have compared values obtained at the different gestational ages, through repeated measures ANOVA, followed by Tukey's post-hoc test. RESULTS: There were no significant differences between the right and left renal arteries, when the RI, IP and S/D ratio were compared. Nevertheless, a change in the values of these parameters has been observed between the 22nd week (RI=0.9 ± 0.02; PI=2.4 ± 0.02; S/D ratio=11.6 ± 2.2; mean ± standard deviation of the combined mean values of the right and left renal artery) and the 38th week (RI=0.8 ± 0.03; PI=2.1 ± 0.2; S/D ratio=8.7 ± 2.3) of gestation. CONCLUSIONS: the parameters evaluated (RI, PI and S/D ratio) have presented decreasing values between the 22nd and 38th, with no difference between the fetus's right and left sides

    Counting and Locating High-Density Objects Using Convolutional Neural Network

    This paper presents a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) approach for counting and locating objects in high-density imagery. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first object counting and locating method based on a feature map enhancement and a Multi-Stage Refinement of the confidence map. The proposed method was evaluated in two counting datasets: tree and car. For the tree dataset, our method returned a mean absolute error (MAE) of 2.05, a root-mean-squared error (RMSE) of 2.87 and a coefficient of determination (R2^2) of 0.986. For the car dataset (CARPK and PUCPR+), our method was superior to state-of-the-art methods. In the these datasets, our approach achieved an MAE of 4.45 and 3.16, an RMSE of 6.18 and 4.39, and an R2^2 of 0.975 and 0.999, respectively. The proposed method is suitable for dealing with high object-density, returning a state-of-the-art performance for counting and locating objects.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, 8 table

    Intestinal Parasites in Free-Living Puma concolor

    Background: Studies on intestinal parasites in cougars Puma concolor are scarce, and most of the available information on the species has been derived from individuals in captivity. One of the greatest threats to the survival of wild cats is habitat loss caused by urban sprawl, agricultural matrix, and linear developments such as highways and railways, which expose animals to direct contact with humans and to a high risk of death. Given the lack of scientific data the objective of this study was to report on the occurrence of intestinal parasites in a cougar (P. concolor) specimen from the northwestern region of Paraná State, Brazil.Case: The carcass of a free-living cougar (P. concolor) individual was sent to the Interdisciplinary Science Museum (Museu Interdisciplinar de Ciências – MIC) of Paranaense University (Universidade Paranaense - UNIPAR); an individual was killed during a collision with an unidentified vehicle on highway PR-486, in the municipality of Mariluz (PR, Brazil). The geographical coordinates of the location where the animal was found are: 23°59′29″S, 53°8′47″W. This region is characterized by semi-deciduous seasonal forest remnants. After being identified on site and collected by the inspectors of the Paraná Environmental Institute (Instituto Ambiental do Paraná - IAP), the cadaver was donated to the MIC (by the IAP) for a necropsy to elucidate the cause of death. In this context, the cadaver was sent to the Animal Pathology section of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at UNIPAR. The animal was necropsied by performing the standard necropsy technique for carnivores: opening the intestine through the mesentery and exposing the mucosa from the duodenum to the colon. The necropsy showed that the cause of death was hypovolemic shock due to trauma. During necropsy, parasites in the intestinal lumen were visible to the naked eye. Parasites and feces were collected and stored in sterile flasks containing 10% formaldehyde and saline. The parasites were subjected to Faust and Hoffman techniques, micrometry, and morphological analysis, resulting in the identification of the roundworm Toxocara cati and the tapeworm Spirometra decipiens.Discussion: Identifying the roadkill species along highways is of paramount importance, since they are living very close to man and, consequently, reservoirs and disseminators of different infectious and parasitic zoonoses may be possible. Infection by protozoa and helminths in animals usually occurs by ingesting the infective form present in food or water. Toxocara cati and the tapeworm Spirometra decipiens were only reported in captivity before. Research on parasites in free-living wild animals is not common in the scientific literature and this is due to the difficulty of capturing this animal category as they live in difficult to access places such as forests and forests, therefore, research projects in partnership with museums are extremely important for the recognition of wild animal species that circulate in the region, in addition to the parasitic identification of these animals for future sanitary measures and for the preservation of the animal species in the environment. The Parasitological studies of wild animals are highly relevant for expanding this knowledge, especially considering the possible transfer risk of specific parasitic diseases to other animals, as well as to humans

    A Review on Deep Learning in UAV Remote Sensing

    Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) learn representation from data with an impressive capability, and brought important breakthroughs for processing images, time-series, natural language, audio, video, and many others. In the remote sensing field, surveys and literature revisions specifically involving DNNs algorithms' applications have been conducted in an attempt to summarize the amount of information produced in its subfields. Recently, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) based applications have dominated aerial sensing research. However, a literature revision that combines both "deep learning" and "UAV remote sensing" thematics has not yet been conducted. The motivation for our work was to present a comprehensive review of the fundamentals of Deep Learning (DL) applied in UAV-based imagery. We focused mainly on describing classification and regression techniques used in recent applications with UAV-acquired data. For that, a total of 232 papers published in international scientific journal databases was examined. We gathered the published material and evaluated their characteristics regarding application, sensor, and technique used. We relate how DL presents promising results and has the potential for processing tasks associated with UAV-based image data. Lastly, we project future perspectives, commentating on prominent DL paths to be explored in the UAV remote sensing field. Our revision consists of a friendly-approach to introduce, commentate, and summarize the state-of-the-art in UAV-based image applications with DNNs algorithms in diverse subfields of remote sensing, grouping it in the environmental, urban, and agricultural contexts.Comment: 38 pages, 10 figure

    A era do conhecimento, em que o capital humano e suas capacidades são vistos como fatores competitivos no mercado de trabalho globalizado, tem forçado as empresas a buscarem novas formas de gestão objetivando melhorar o desempenho, alcançar melhores resultados e atingir a missão institucional para o pleno atendimento aos anseios dos seus consumidores. Assim, esta pesquisa visa discutir a importância do processo de Recrutamento e Seleção Interna na Instituição Financeira Banco do Brasil (BB), mediante a utilização de estudo de caso como método de investigação, visando analisar os resultados organizacionais esperados por essas instituições. Com intuito alcançar o objetivo proposto, foi realizada uma pesquisa de cunho descritivo e bibliográfico, visando analisar ou explicar um determinado problema à luz do referencial teórico existente. Dessa forma, conclui-se que a empresa usa, de forma correta, seu plano de carreira, dando a devida importância ao processo de recrutamento e seleção interna da instituição. Como hipótese, a fim de aprimorar o conhecimento dos gestores que atuam nesse processo de analise dos funcionários, a empresa poderia disponibilizar cursos específicos para seus gestores quando aprimorarão seus conhecimentos em planejar, recrutar e capacitar o indivíduo para adequá-lo no sistema organizacional da empresa

    The chemical investigation of hexane and ethanol extracts from the aerial parts of Vernonia scorpioides resulted in the isolation and characterization of a new polyacetylene lactone, rel-4-dihydro-4β-hydroxy-5a-octa-2,4,6-triynyl-furan-2-(5H)-one, along with the new ethyl 3,4-dihydroxy-6,8,10-triynyl-dodecanoate, and seven known compounds: taraxasteryl acetate, lupeyl acetate, lupeol, lupenone, β-sitosterol, stigmasterol and luteolin. The structure of all compounds was determined by spectrometric techniques (HR-ESI-MS, ¹H and 13C NMR and IV) and comparison with published spectral data
