Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Applications
The issue is dedicated to applications of Deep Brain Stimulation and, in this issue, we would like to highlight the new developments that are taking place in the field. These include the application of new technology to existing indications, as well as ‘new’ indications. We would also like to highlight the most recent clinical evidence from international multicentre trials. The issue will include articles relating to movement disorders, pain, psychiatric indications, as well as emerging indications that are not yet accompanied by clinical evidence. We look forward to your expert contribution to this exciting issue
Your place, my place, interface
This publication is the output of 2001 School of Communications and Multimedia post-graduate cohort. For many of us this is the first time our own work will be seen beyond the assignment or the essay destined for the tutor. For students from the interactive multimedia and film and video streams communicating in the written word without the assistance of pictures and electrical gadgetry can be a frightening experience. Further, most us of had little experience in creating or simulating an academic journal with all that it entails. Still, with assistance of our publications unit coordinator Lelia Green we soldiered on. Given that nearly half of us came from the interactive multimedia stream one of the big questions asked was whether we published on-line or on paper? Nostalgia emerged victorious and hence our journal is something you can put on the shelf

Voices at the Table: Collaboration and Intertextuality
While we often associate reading aloud with children and particularly younger children, the practice of reading aloud has historically been a way for a community to share texts for information and enjoyment. Findings from a year-long study of a school librarian collaborating with a team of second grade teachers demonstrates the value of reading aloud in building background knowledge and vocabulary, modeling, understanding curriculum, creating common texts, and reading for enjoyment. Reading aloud brought other voices to the table in a clear example of intertextuality. Implications are shared for school librarians interested in similar practices as well as future research related to the impact of the school librarian on classroom instruction and student learning

Energy price risk management
The price of electricity is far more volatile than that of other commodities
normally noted for extreme volatility. Demand and supply are balanced on a
knife-edge because electric power cannot be economically stored, end user
demand is largely weather dependent, and the reliability of the grid is
paramount. The possibility of extreme price movements increases the risk of
trading in electricity markets. However, a number of standard financial tools
cannot be readily applied to pricing and hedging electricity derivatives. In
this paper we present arguments why this is the case
E-Advising: Expanding Advising for Distance LIS Students
Online instruction and programming have expanded the universe of LIS education but have also expanded the needs of online students for assistance navigating institutional structures and requirements. With 24-7 access to coursework, accounts, and the university website, students expect prompt answers to questions through electronic or e-advising. From recruitment to alumni relations, LIS programs and their universities are seeking to expand how they reach distance students in online programs. We will share innovative uses of technology and staffing for e-advising along with what online students have told us in a survey about the kinds of advising they need and expect
