Discrete Gauge Symmetries in Axionic Extensions of the SSM
We examine discrete gauge symmetries in axionic extensions of the SSM which
provide a solution of the -problem. Automatic-PQ symmetry and proton
stability are shown to be guaranteed by certain discrete symmetries. Focusing
on the L-violating discrete symmetries we discuss two sources of neutrino
masses and their relevance for the solar neutrino problem.Comment: 13 pages, TUM-TH-150/92, MPI-Ph/92-7
Conditions for Successful Extended Inflation
We investigate, in a model-independent way, the conditions required to obtain
a satisfactory model of extended inflation in which inflation is brought to an
end by a first-order phase transition. The constraints are that the correct
present strength of the gravitational coupling is obtained, that the present
theory of gravity is satisfactorily close to general relativity, that the
perturbation spectra from inflation are compatible with large scale structure
observations and that the bubble spectrum produced at the phase transition
doesn't conflict with the observed level of microwave background anisotropies.
We demonstrate that these constraints can be summarized in terms of the
behaviour in the conformally related Einstein frame, and can be compactly
illustrated graphically. We confirm the failure of existing models including
the original extended inflation model, and construct models, albeit rather
contrived ones, which satisfy all existing constraints.Comment: 8 pages RevTeX file with one figure incorporated (uses RevTeX and

Scaling of anisotropy flows in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions
Anisotropic flows (, and ) of light nuclear clusters are
studied by a nucleonic transport model in intermediate energy heavy ion
collisions. The number-of-nucleon scalings of the directed flow () and
elliptic flow () are demonstrated for light nuclear clusters. Moreover,
the ratios of of nuclear clusters show a constant value of 1/2
regardless of the transverse momentum. The above phenomena can be understood by
the coalescence mechanism in nucleonic level and are worthy to be explored in
experiments.Comment: Invited talk at "IX International Conference on Nucleus-Nucleus

Structure Formation with Majoron Supermultiplet
We show that the late-decaying particle scenario may be realized in the
supersymmetric singlet majoron model with the majoron scale TeV. The
smajoron decaying into two neutrinos is the late-decaying particle with the
mass TeV and the life-time seconds. The lower
limit of the majorino mass is TeV in order to avoid the overclosure of
the universe due to the decay-produced LSP. The muon neutrino and the tau
neutrino can be used to explain the atmospheric and the solar neutrino deficit.Comment: 9 pages, latex; some changes in the main text, but none in conclusio
Bianchi type I space and the stability of inflationary Friedmann-Robertson-Walker space
Stability analysis of the Bianchi type I universe in pure gravity theory is
studied in details. We first derive the non-redundant field equation of the
system by introducing the generalized Bianchi type I metric. This non-redundant
equation reduces to the Friedmann equation in the isotropic limit. It is shown
further that any unstable mode of the isotropic perturbation with respect to a
de Sitter background is also unstable with respect to anisotropic
perturbations. Implications to the choice of physical theories are discussed in
details in this paper.Comment: 5 pages, some comment adde
Putting theory oriented evaluation into practice
Evaluations of gaming simulations and business games as teaching devices are typically end-state driven. This emphasis fails to detect how the simulation being evaluated does or does not bring about its desired consequences. This paper advances the use of a logic model approach which possesses a holistic perspective that aims at including all elements associated with the situation created by a game. The use of the logic model approach is illustrated as applied to Simgame, a board game created for secondary school level business education in six European Union countries
Radiatively Induced Neutrino Masses and Large Higgs-Neutrino Couplings in the Standard Model with Majorana Fields
The Higgs sector of the Standard Model with one right-handed neutrino per
family is systematically analyzed. In a model with intergenerational
independent mixings between families, we can account for very light neutrinos
acquiring Majorana masses radiatively at the first electroweak loop level. We
also find that in such a scenario the Higgs coupling to the light-heavy
neutrinos and to the heavy-heavy ones may be remarkably enhanced with
significant implications for the production of these heavy neutrinos at high
energy colliders.Comment: Making the text of an old paper electronically availabl
Brane inflation and the fine-tuning problem
Brane inflation can provide a promissing framework for solving the
fine-tuning problem in standard inflationary models. The aim of this paper is
to illustrate the mechanism by which this can be achieved. By considering the
supersymmetric two-stage inflation model it is shown that the initial
fine-tuning of the coupling parameter can be considerably relaxed. SubPlanckian
values of the inflaton during inflation can also be obtained.Comment: 04 pages (Revtex
Scaling of Anisotropic Flow and Momentum-Space Densities for Light Particles in Intermediate Energy Heavy Ion Collisions
Anisotropic flows ( and ) of light nuclear clusters are studied by
Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics model for the system of Kr
+ Sn at intermediate energy and large impact parameters.
Number-of-nucleon scaling of the elliptic flow () are demonstrated for the
light fragments up to = 4, and the ratio of shows a constant
value of 1/2. In addition, the momentum-space densities of different clusters
are also surveyed as functions of transverse momentum, in-plane transverse
momentum and azimuth angle relative to the reaction plane. The results can be
essentially described by momentum-space power law. All the above phenomena
indicate that there exists a number-of-nucleon scaling for both anisotropic
flow and momentum-space densities for light clusters, which can be understood
by the coalescence mechanism in nucleonic degree of freedom for the cluster
formation.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures; to be published in Physics Letters
Friedmann Equation and Stability of Inflationary Higher Derivative Gravity
Stability analysis on the De Sitter universe in pure gravity theory is known
to be useful in many aspects. We first show how to complete the proof of an
earlier argument based on a redundant field equation. It is shown further that
the stability condition applies to Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spaces
based on the non-redundant Friedmann equation derived from a simple effective
Lagrangian. We show how to derive this expression for the Friedmann equation of
pure gravity theory. This expression is also generalized to include scalar
field interactions.Comment: Revtex, 6 pages, Add two more references, some typos correcte
