Studying Migrant Assimilation Through Facebook Interests
Migrants' assimilation is a major challenge for European societies, in part
because of the sudden surge of refugees in recent years and in part because of
long-term demographic trends. In this paper, we use Facebook's data for
advertisers to study the levels of assimilation of Arabic-speaking migrants in
Germany, as seen through the interests they express online. Our results
indicate a gradient of assimilation along demographic lines, language spoken
and country of origin. Given the difficulty to collect timely migration data,
in particular for traits related to cultural assimilation, the methods that we
develop and the results that we provide open new lines of research that

Luminosity Function of Faint Globular Clusters in M87
We present the luminosity function to very faint magnitudes for the globular
clusters in M87, based on a 30 orbit \textit{Hubble Space Telescope (HST)}
WFPC2 imaging program. The very deep images and corresponding improved false
source rejection allow us to probe the mass function further beyond the
turnover than has been done before. We compare our luminosity function to those
that have been observed in the past, and confirm the similarity of the turnover
luminosity between M87 and the Milky Way. We also find with high statistical
significance that the M87 luminosity function is broader than that of the Milky
Way. We discuss how determining the mass function of the cluster system to low
masses can constrain theoretical models of the dynamical evolution of globular
cluster systems. Our mass function is consistent with the dependence of mass
loss on the initial cluster mass given by classical evaporation, and somewhat
inconsistent with newer proposals that have a shallower mass dependence. In
addition, the rate of mass loss is consistent with standard evaporation models,
and not with the much higher rates proposed by some recent studies of very
young cluster systems. We also find that the mass-size relation has very little
slope, indicating that there is almost no increase in the size of a cluster

7-Li(p,n) Nuclear Data Library for Incident Proton Energies to 150 MeV
We describe evaluation methods that make use of experimental data, and
nuclear model calculations, to develop an ENDF-formatted data library for the
reaction p + Li7 for incident protons with energies up to 150 MeV. The
important 7-Li(p,n_0) and 7-Li(p,n_1) reactions are evaluated from the
experimental data, with their angular distributions represented using Lengendre
polynomial expansions. The decay of the remaining reaction flux is estimated
from GNASH nuclear model calculations. The evaluated ENDF-data are described in
detail, and illustrated in numerous figures. We also illustrate the use of
these data in a representative application by a radiation transport simulation

Equivalence-based Security for Querying Encrypted Databases: Theory and Application to Privacy Policy Audits
Motivated by the problem of simultaneously preserving confidentiality and
usability of data outsourced to third-party clouds, we present two different
database encryption schemes that largely hide data but reveal enough
information to support a wide-range of relational queries. We provide a
security definition for database encryption that captures confidentiality based
on a notion of equivalence of databases from the adversary's perspective. As a
specific application, we adapt an existing algorithm for finding violations of
privacy policies to run on logs encrypted under our schemes and observe low to

The Thermal Structure of the Circumstellar Disk Surrounding the Classical Be Star gamma Cassiopeia
We have computed radiative equilibrium models for the gas in the
circumstellar envelope surrounding the hot, classical Be star Cassiopeia. This calculation is performed using a code that incorporates a
number of improvements over previous treatments of the disk's thermal structure
by \citet{mil98} and \citet{jon04}; most importantly, heating and cooling rates
are computed with atomic models for H, He, CNO, Mg, Si, Ca, & Fe and their
relevant ions. Thus, for the first time, the thermal structure of a Be disk is
computed for a gas with a solar chemical composition as opposed to assuming a
pure hydrogen envelope. We compare the predicted average disk temperature, the
total energy loss in H, and the near-IR excess with observations and
find that all can be accounted for by a disk that is in vertical hydrostatic
equilibrium with a density in the equatorial plane of to
. We also discuss the changes in
the disk's thermal structure that result from the additional heating and
cooling processes available to a gas with a solar chemical composition over

ISO spectroscopy of circumstellar dust in the Herbig Ae systems AB Aur and HD 163296
Using both the Short- and Long-wavelength Spectrometers on board the Infrared
Space Observatory (ISO), we have obtained infrared spectra of the Herbig Ae
systems AB Aur and HD 163296. In addition, we obtained ground-based N band
images of HD 163296. Our results can be summarized as follows: (1) The main
dust components in AB Aur are amorphous silicates, iron oxide and PAHs; (2) The
circumstellar dust in HD 163296 consists of amorphous silicates, iron oxide,
water ice and a small fraction of crystalline silicates; (3) The infrared
fluxes of HD 163296 are dominated by solid state features; (4) The colour
temperature of the underlying continuum is much cooler in HD 163296 than in AB
Aur, pointing to the existence of a population of very large (mm sized) dust
grains in HD 163296; (5) The composition and degree of crystallization of
circumstellar dust are poorly correlated with the age of the central star. The
processes of crystallization and grain growth are also not necessarily coupled.
This means that either the evolution of circumstellar dust in protoplanetary
disks happens very rapidly (within a few Myr), or that this evolution is
