Application of a Bayesian Method to Absorption Spectral-Line Finding in Simulated ASKAP Data
The large spectral bandwidth and wide field of view of the Australian SKA
Pathfinder radio telescope will open up a completely new parameter space for
large extragalactic HI surveys. Here we focus on identifying and parametrising
HI absorption lines which occur in the line of sight towards strong radio
continuum sources. We have developed a method for simultaneously finding and
fitting HI absorption lines in radio data by using multi-nested sampling, a
Bayesian Monte Carlo algorithm. The method is tested on a simulated ASKAP data
cube, and is shown to be reliable at detecting absorption lines in low
signal-to-noise data without the need to smooth or alter the data. Estimation
of the local Bayesian evidence statistic provides a quantitative criterion for
assigning significance to a detection and selecting between competing
analytical line-profile models.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures and 1 table; accepted for publication in PAS

Evolution in the Disks and Bulges of Group Galaxies since z=0.4
We present quantitative morphology measurements of a sample of optically
selected group galaxies at 0.3 < z < 0.55 using the Hubble Space Telescope
(HST) Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) and the GIM2D surface
brightness--fitting software package. The group sample is derived from the
Canadian Network for Observational Cosmology Field Redshift survey (CNOC2) and
follow-up Magellan spectroscopy. We compare these measurements to a similarly
selected group sample from the Millennium Galaxy Catalogue (MGC) at 0.05 < z <
0.12. We find that, at both epochs, the group and field fractional bulge
luminosity (B/T) distributions differ significantly, with the dominant
difference being a deficit of disk--dominated (B/T < 0.2) galaxies in the group
samples. At fixed luminosity, z=0.4 groups have ~ 5.5 +/- 2 % fewer
disk--dominated galaxies than the field, while by z=0.1 this difference has
increased to ~ 19 +/- 6 %. Despite the morphological evolution we see no
evidence that the group environment is actively perturbing or otherwise
affecting the entire existing disk population. At both redshifts, the disks of
group galaxies have similar scaling relations and show similar median
asymmetries as the disks of field galaxies. We do find evidence that the
fraction of highly asymmetric, bulge--dominated galaxies is 6 +/- 3 % higher in
groups than in the field, suggesting there may be enhanced merging in group
environments. We replicate our group samples at z=0.4 and z=0 using the
semi-analytic galaxy catalogues of Bower et al (2006). This model accurately
reproduces the B/T distributions of the group and field at z=0.1. However, the
model does not reproduce our finding that the deficit of disks in groups has
increased significantly since z=0.4.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. 20 pages, 17 figure
Induced Anisotropies in NiCo Obliquely Deposited Films and Their effect on Magnetic Domains
English Article: Oblique and in-plane anisotropies in obliquely evaporated NiCo thin films were investigated in order to understand their origin. All the compositions studied clearly show the effect of columnar grain morphology coupled with some intrinsic factors such as magnetostriction and crystallinity. Energy calculations are undertaken to explain the effect of
Características de los ambientes de aprendizaje enriquecidos con TIC para la comprensión lectora en el ciclo de la Educación Básica
Low outcomes of middle students in Language in national and international tests, its negative impact on mobility and permanence in higher education and on regional socioeconomic development, demand by schools the urgent implementation of strategies to strengthen reading comprehension with ICT support. The objective of the article is to inquire about the characteristics of the learning environments that integrate ICT to promote reading comprehension and the role that teachers should play in its implementation. Databases, books and digital documents were searched using the criteria words: reading comprehension, ICT integra-tion, and learning environments, and the terms: critical reading, digital technologies, learning environments, in English and in Spanish, between the years 2014 and 2021, from which 72 were analyzed for fulfilling the purpose of the review and 31 did partially. In the conclusion it is related the identification of ICT resources that integrate into the pedagogical processes to promote reading comprehension, the characteristics of the en-vironment that can be incorporated in the design of learning environments and the roles that the teacher must assume for the implementation in Middle School.
