Anti-Angiogenic Treatment (Sunitinib) for Disseminated Malignant Haemangiopericytoma: A Case Study and Review of the Literature

Introduction: A meningeal haemangiopericytoma (HP) is a mesenchymal tumour that makes up less than 1% of all CNS tumours. HPs arise from pericytes and present high rates of recurrence and distant metastasis. The primary treatment option is surgery. When the disease is disseminated, chemotherapy produces a weak and short-lived response; therefore, new drugs are needed. Case Presentation: We describe the case of a 65-year-old woman with a 13-year history of recurrent HP. After local treatment with radiotherapy, she developed metastases that required systemic treatment, and treatment with sunitinib, an oral inhibitor of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor and the platelet-derived growth factor receptor, was initiated. As a result, radiological stabilisation of the systemic disease was maintained for over 12 months. Conclusions: Anti-angiogenic agents can be useful for treating disseminated HP, but further studies are needed to confirm their possible role in controlling metastatic disease

Background: No study has evaluated the mechanical effect of different magnitudes of long axis-distraction mobilization (LADM) force on hip joint space width (JSW) or the association between the separation of joint surfaces and the strain on hip capsular ligaments. Objective: To compare the joint separation when applying three different magnitudes of LADM forces (low, medium and high) and to analyse the correlation between joint separation, strain on the inferior ilio-femoral ligament and magnitude of applied force. Design: Repeated measures controlled laboratory cadaveric study. Methods: Three magnitudes of force were applied to 11 cadaveric hip joints (mean age 73 years). Ultrasound images were used to measure joint separation, and strain gauges recorded inferior ilio-femoral ligament strain during each condition. Results: The magnitude of joint separation was significantly different between low (0.23 ± 0.19 mm), medium (0.72 ± 0.22 mm) and high (2.62 ± 0.43 mm) forces (p 0.723; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Hip joint separation and ligament strain during LADM are associated with the magnitude of the applied force

Primeros registros de la herpetofauna en dos áreas naturales protegidas de la provincia de Santiago del Estero (Argentina)

First herpetofauna record of two protected areas of Santiago del Estero province (Argentina) Dry Chaco ecoregion is one of the largest remnants of dry forest in Latin America and has a very diverse herpetofauna. However, further studies are required for a deep knowledge of its composition and structure. Our objective was to perform an inventory of the herpetofauna in two natural areas of Dry Chaco of Santiago del Estero: Caburé Sur and Parque Provincial Copo. In the two protected areas we recorded 21 and 25 species of anurans and reptiles, respectively. According to the last Argentinean conservation assessment we found one threatened and five vulnerable species of reptiles in both protected areas. The inventory revealed that herpetofauna of the two protected areas of Santiago del Estero contains about 60% of the Dry Chaco herpetofauna. We report the presence of three new species for Santiago del Estero: Kentropyx viridistriga, Teius oculatus and Stenocercus doellojuradoi. We provide new information for future research and conservation actions on this ecoregion.Asociación Herpetológica Argentina (AHA

Factorization of strongly (p,sigma)-continuous multilinear operators

We introduce the new ideal of strongly-continuous linear operators in order to study the adjoints of the -absolutely continuous linear operators. Starting from this ideal we build a new multi-ideal by using the composition method. We prove the corresponding Pietsch domination theorem and we present a representation of this multi-ideal by a tensor norm. A factorization theorem characterizing the corresponding multi-ideal - which is also new for the linear case - is given. When applied to the case of the Cohen strongly -summing operators, this result gives also a new factorization theorem.D. Traced tensor norms and multiple summing multilinear operators

[EN] Using a general tensor norm approach, our aim is to show that some distinguished classes of summing operators can be characterized by means of an 'order reduction' procedure for multiple summing multilinear operators, which becomes the keystone of our arguments and can be considered our main result. We work in a tensor product framework involving traced tensor norms and the representation theorem for maximal operator ideals. Several applications are given not only to multi-ideals, but also to linear operator ideals. In particular, we get applications to multiple p-summing bilinear operators, (p, q)-factorable linear operators, tau(p)-summing linear operators and absolutely p-summing linear operators, providing a characterization of this later class whenever the absolutely p-summing linear operators take values in an L-p-space.This work was supported by the Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (Spain) [grant number MTM2011-22417], [grant number MTM2012-36740-C02-02].Rueda, P.; Sánchez Pérez, EA.; Tallab, A.
