    Get PDF
The influx of banks in university campuses across Nigeria has motivated the need to unearth the most potent dimension(s), tool(s), or driver(s) of relationship marketing that significantly influence lecturers who are bank customers to retain patronage with a bank operating within a campus. The study was guided by a research schema which was the basis for the formulation of five conceptual hypotheses. Five relationship marketing tools – communication, commitment, trust, promise fulfillment, and social bonding – where all explored to determine their predictive power on a bank customer retention. A structured questionnaire was designed on a five-point like scale. Data collected were tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC). Statistical support was found for all the dimension of relationship marketing as predictors of bank customer retention. However, commitment, trust, and promise fulfillment are the strongest or most potent predictors of bank customer retention, while communication and social bonding are weak predictors of bank customer retention of lecturers within university campuses. Hence, this study posits the Commitment-Trust-Promise Fulfilment Model of Relationship Marketing, thereby challenging Commitment-Trust Theory of Relationship Marketing. Key recommendations, with their concomitant managerial implications, include: first, banks operating within university campuses should make adequate budgetary provision for the purpose of executing a sound relationship marketing programme for its bank customers who are university lecturers; second, training and retraining on a constant basis in the area of relationship marketing (with strong focus on commitment, trust, and promise fulfillment) can be conducted for the marketing staff of banks operating within the university campuses

AUDIENCE ASSESSMENT OF BROADCAST MEDIA SURVEILLANCE AND NATIONAL SECURITY IN NIGERIA

Amongst the many functions of the media, the surveillance function is no doubt, a very fundamental role. This function places a demand on the media to scan the environment and report dangers, especially impending dangers, which largely contribute to the insecurity of lives and property. In line with the sensitive nature of this function and the current insecurity situation in Nigeria, it becomes pertinent to assess how far the Nigeria’s broadcast industry has fared in fulfilling the surveillance function and how the industry’s audiences perceive its performance. The residents of six selected cities from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria were sampled. Questionnaire served as the measuring instrument. Using survey research method, we found out, amongst others, that the broadcast media are not effective in the discharge of their surveillance function. In line with the findings, the paper recommends amongst others that the Nigerian broadcast media must, as a matter of necessity, contribute to the security of the country by effectively playing the surveillance role.KEY WORDS: Surveillance function, Security, Broadcast media, Audience, Assessment, Nigeri

    Get PDF
The policy framework on electricity in South Africa includes government’s intention to provide quality and affordable electricity to the people. This article focuses on the issues that affect electrification and their impact towards the goal of achieving universal access to quality and affordable electricity in the country from a policy perspective. The provision of electricity to the poor and previously disadvantaged communities is a matter of social welfare in the country. Hence, the electricity-related policy issues are examined in the context of public interest. In South Africa the identification of limited availability of electricity as a public problem by the post 1994 ANC government has led to an integrated policy framework which focuses on balancing economic concerns with social and environmental considerations. The methodological approach allows for an in depth textual study on the post 1994 electricity policy documents and the examination of issues relating to the provision of quality and affordable electricity to the people, especially the previously disadvantaged South Africans. The article posits that good governance has enabled for the identification of issues relating to sustainable public interests. These public interests include social equity, poverty alleviation and environmental sustainability and government also using public sector agencies to play key roles in service delivery. Through this article, the author intends to make a contribution towards the body of knowledge pertaining to the niche areas of poverty alleviation and socio-economic development in the discipline of public administration.Key words: Electricity, universal access, reconstruction and development, social equit

This study sought to determine ways effective public support could be harnessed for community-policing project in order to assist the police to maintain security and work harmoniously with the public. Specifically, it sought to find out the extent the public is aware of the existence of community policing security project, its perceived effectiveness, possible challenges and likely support it requires to function as well as the envisaged implications for national security in Nigeria. A sample of 1000 Adult citizens drawn from Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo States in south east Nigeria using stratified and purposive sampling techniques were used for the study. Data was collected with the use of a 25-item Questionnaire titled. “Questionnaire on building effective support for community-policing for National security in Nigeria” (QBESCIN). This was complemented with focus group discussion sessions with police officers in the selected states. The instrument was validated by experts and appropriately tested for reliability. Percentages were employed in analyzing data. Findings among other things revealed that majority of the respondents are to a large extent aware of the existence of community-policing project even though certain related challenges such as resistance to change, lack of information/publicity, poor public-police relations etc seem to confront its viability. Correspondingly, it was unanimously agreed by respondents that community policing needed moral, financial, motivational and enlightenment support to work effectively. The implications for national security were identified in form of the need for better police-public relations, public mobilization and participation etc which are deemed strategic for effective performance of the police. These findings and implications were discussed and appropriate recommendations made on how community-policing could be used to support police operational effectiveness in south-east Nigeria

    Get PDF
This study sought to determine the socio-demographic factors responsible for health-care programme usage by women during pregnancy and child-birth in a developing country like Nigeria, especially in Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State. Three research questions and one hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample size of two hundred and sixty (260) respondents were selected from five rural wards in the Local Government Area using the stratified random sampling technique. A face to face structured interview and focus group discussion were used for data collection. Content analysis and the econometric bivariate regression model were used for both qualitative and quantitative data analyses respectively. The hypothesis formulated for the study was tested using ANOVA. A total of eleven independent variables were used for computing the regression equation/model. Data analyses yielded eight findings which showed the significant factors that determine health-care programme usage by pregnant women. These are level of educational attainment, distance to health-care facility, male domination women’s perpetual dependence on men, poverty and so on. These findings were exhaustively discussed and some appropriate policy implications and recommendations outlined

The experiment was conducted to determine the organ weight characteristics, carcass yield and cost benefits of Kano Brown goats fed cassava root sievate and cassava leaf meal (CRSCLM) based diets as supplement to (Pennisetum  purpureum) using 36 Kano Brown goats of 8 to 10 months of age.Four diets T1, T2, T3,and T4, were formulated at the levels of 0%, 20%, 40% and 60% CRSCLM respectivelyin a completely randomized design. Each animal received a designated treatment diet in the morning for 97 days. Feed offered was based on 3.5% body weight per day; the animals in addition were fed a kg wilted chopped P. purpureum later in the day as basal diet to enhance rumination and fine chewing. Results on  carcass indices showed significant (p0.05) response on live weight at slaughter, empty carcass weight, warm carcass weight, dressing percentage, shoulder, leg, loin, end and shank with T4having relatively best results. The dressing percentage was numerically (49.59%) best at T4. On the offal weights, head and full guts were significantly (p0.05) improved for T4and T1goats. The organ characteristic proved the safety of using CRSCLM through the significantly (p0.05) lower organ weights at T4goats. Cost per kg feed, feed cost/weight gainand cost/benefit ratio were positively influenced (p0.05) at T4with expected income of 4.79 / 1 invested. It could therefore be concluded that Kano Brown goats fed 60% CRSCLM had the best carcass and organ yields at a reduced feed cost. Keywords: Pennisetum purpureum, Kano brown goats, Cassava leaf meal, Cassava root sievate,

Problem of Integration with Respect to Unbounded Measures on the Set of Projections

    Get PDF
We note if j is a normal weight on M, then is a measure on projections and if a measure on projections can be extended to a normal weight, then the problem of constructing an integral with respect to this measure reduces to the problem of constructing an integral with respect to the weight. We therefore present several methods of constructing noncommutative integration which gives a survey of the contemporary state of the theory in the von Neumann algebra (M) with respect to weightj. For every aÎ [0,1], the Banach space is isometrically isomorphic to the space Lp(t) and the space is, by definition, the Banach space completion of  in the norm .We construct the scale of Lp(j) spaces  with respect to a faithful normal semifinite (f.n.s.) weight j on a von Neumann algebra M. These spaces are realized by operators. This is achieved by extending the original algebra M, and the Hilbert space where M originally acted is altered, as well. In the construction of the scale, the concept of an operator-valued weight is used. We discuss the problem of integration with respect to measures on projections which remains open for unbounded measures (m(1) = +¥) and their structure has been studied only for the algebra ?(?). Cost Implications of The Prevalence Of HIV/AIDS On The Economic Development Of Nigeria.

    Get PDF
HIV/AIDS emerged in the last three decades as visible threat to health and the socio-economic conditions of developing countries including Nigeria. Against this background, this study sought to determine the cost implications of the prevalence of HIV/AIDs on the economic development of Nigeria. The study adopted mainly qualitative approach sourced from National Bureau of Statistics-(NBS) and Central Bank of Nigeria-(CBN) statistical Bulletin respectively for analysis. Findings seem to support claims that the incidence of HIV/AIDS exert serious negative influences on the economic growth of Nigeria. This is due to the fact that HIV/AIDS reduces to a large extent the proportion of the working population with its huge corresponding cost implications, which in turn affect economic resources in the country. The policy interventions strategies recommended for stemming the scourge of HIV/AIDS include; prevention of new infections, cost reduction of treatments for patients, positive adjustments of patients to employment environment and development of activities like pychoeducational programme to motivate and foster HIV/AIDS prevention and management behaviours among the Nigeria populace especially the youth
