Preliminary Evaluation of Nonlinear Effects on TCA Flutter
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of nonlinear aerodynamics, especially at high angles-of-attack with leading-edge separation, on the TCA flutter properties at transonic speeds. In order to achieve that objective, flutter simulations with Navier-Stokes CFD must be performed. To this end, time-marching Navier-Stokes solutions are computed for the TCA wing/body configuration at high angles-of-attack in transonic flight regimes. The approach is to perform non-linear flutter calculations on the TCA at two angles-of-attack, the first one being a case with attached flow (a=2.8 degrees) and the second one being a high angle-of-attack case with a wing leading edge vortex (a=12.11 degrees). Comparisons of the resulting histories and frequency damping information for both angles-of-attack will evaluate the impact of high-alpha aerodynamics on flutter

An Iterative Inverse Design Method Based on Aerodynamic Streamline Equations
Aerodynamic characteristics are very sensitive to airfoil leading-edge geometry, and its accurate treatment is a limitation of many existing design methods. The objective of the present research is to develop an interactive inverse design method that is not only efficient but can also treat the leading-edge region accurately. In the formulation of the method, a small-perturbation geometric equation is deduced from the streamline momentum equations, the continuity equation, and the isentropic relations with the geometry similarity assumption of near streamlines to the airfoil surface. Moreover, the transonic correction is considered in the aforementioned equation with the assumption for the effects of waves reflected from the free surface (sonic line) because the method based on the surface flow values cannot take into account the transonic characteristics such as wave interference. The geometric perturbation normal to the airfoil surface is then calculated by solving this second-order initial value ordinary differential equation iteratively to obtain an airfoil design. Techniques such as airfoil smoothing, nonuniform relaxation, and the strained coordinate transfer are employed to accelerate convergence. The airfoil design cases demonstrate the remarkable efficiency and accuracy of the method not only for compressible flows but also for low-speed flows. Moreover, the method allows the leading-edge shape to be determined accurately and, thus, to overcome the deficiency of many of the related methods

Fractional Zaslavsky and Henon Discrete Maps
This paper is devoted to the memory of Professor George M. Zaslavsky passed
away on November 25, 2008. In the field of discrete maps, George M. Zaslavsky
introduced a dissipative standard map which is called now the Zaslavsky map. G.
Zaslavsky initialized many fundamental concepts and ideas in the fractional
dynamics and kinetics. In this paper, starting from kicked damped equations
with derivatives of non-integer orders we derive a fractional generalization of
discrete maps. These fractional maps are generalizations of the Zaslavsky map
and the Henon map. The main property of the fractional differential equations
and the correspondent fractional maps is a long-term memory and dissipation.
The memory is realized by the fact that their present state evolution depends

A 32-society investigation of the influence of perceived economic inequality on social class stereotyping
International audienceThere is a growing body of work suggesting that social class stereotypes are amplified when people perceive higher levels of economic inequality-that is, the wealthy are perceived as more competent and assertive and the poor as more incompetent and unassertive. The present study tested this prediction in 32 societies and also examines the role of wealth-based categorization in explaining this relationship. We found that people who perceived higher economic inequality were indeed more likely to consider wealth as a meaningful basis for categorization. Unexpectedly, however, higher levels of perceived inequality were associated with perceiving the wealthy as less competent and assertive and the poor as more competent and assertive. Unpacking this further, exploratory analyses showed that the observed tendency to stereotype the wealthy negatively only emerged in societies with lower social mobility and democracy and higher corruption. This points to the importance of understanding how socio-structural features that co-occur with economic inequality may shape perceptions of the wealthy and the poor
Elucidating the clinical and molecular spectrum of SMARCC2-associated NDD in a cohort of 65 affected individuals
Purpose: Coffin-Siris and Nicolaides-Baraitser syndromes are recognizable neurodevelopmental disorders caused by germline variants in BAF complex subunits. The SMARCC2 BAFopathy was recently reported. Herein, we present clinical and molecular data on a large cohort. Methods: Clinical symptoms for 41 novel and 24 previously published affected individuals were analyzed using the Human Phenotype Ontology. For genotype-phenotype correlations, molecular data were standardized and grouped into non-truncating and likely gene-disrupting (LGD) variants. Missense variant protein expression and BAF-subunit interactions were examined using 3D protein modeling, co-immunoprecipitation, and proximity-ligation assays. Results: Neurodevelopmental delay with intellectual disability, muscular hypotonia, and behavioral disorders were the major manifestations. Clinical hallmarks of BAFopathies were rare. Clinical presentation differed significantly, with LGD variants being predominantly inherited and associated with mildly reduced or normal cognitive development, whereas non-truncating variants were mostly de novo and presented with severe developmental delay. These distinct manifestations and non-truncating variant clustering in functional domains suggest different pathomechanisms. In vitro testing showed decreased protein expression for N-terminal missense variants similar to LGD. Conclusion: This study improved SMARCC2 variant classification and identified discernible SMARCC2-associated phenotypes for LGD and non-truncating variants, which were distinct from other BAFopathies. The pathomechanism of most non-truncating variants has yet to be investigated

APOE genotype influences insulin resistance, apolipoprotein CII and CIII according to plasma fatty acid profile in the Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic markers associated with the Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) may be affected by interactions between the APOE genotype and plasma fatty acids (FA). In this study, we explored FA-gene interactions between the missense APOE polymorphisms and FA status on metabolic markers in MetS. Plasma FA, blood pressure, insulin sensitivity and lipid concentrations were determined at baseline and following a 12-week randomized, controlled, parallel, dietary FA intervention in 442 adults with MetS (LIPGENE study). FA-APOE gene interactions at baseline and following change in plasma FA were assessed using adjusted general linear models. At baseline E4 carriers had higher plasma concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and apolipoprotein B (apo B) compared with E2 carriers; and higher TC, LDL-C and apo B compared with E3/E3. Whilst elevated plasma n-3 polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) was associated with a beneficially lower concentration of apo CIII in E2 carriers, a high proportion of plasma C16:0 was associated with insulin resistance in E4 carriers. Following FA intervention, a reduction in plasma long-chain n-3 PUFA was associated with a reduction in apo CII concentration in E2 carriers. Our novel data suggest that individuals with MetS may benefit from personalized dietary interventions based on APOE genotype
A description of a knowledge broker role implemented as part of a randomized controlled trial evaluating three knowledge translation strategies
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>A knowledge broker (KB) is a popular knowledge translation and exchange (KTE) strategy emerging in Canada to promote interaction between researchers and end users, as well as to develop capacity for evidence-informed decision making. A KB provides a link between research producers and end users by developing a mutual understanding of goals and cultures, collaborates with end users to identify issues and problems for which solutions are required, and facilitates the identification, access, assessment, interpretation, and translation of research evidence into local policy and practice. Knowledge-brokering can be carried out by individuals, groups and/or organizations, as well as entire countries. In each case, the KB is linked with a group of end users and focuses on promoting the integration of the best available evidence into policy and practice-related decisions.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A KB intervention comprised one of three KTE interventions evaluated in a randomized controlled trial.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>KB activities were classified into the following categories: initial and ongoing needs assessments; scanning the horizon; knowledge management; KTE; network development, maintenance, and facilitation; facilitation of individual capacity development in evidence informed decision making; and g) facilitation of and support for organizational change.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>As the KB role developed during this study, central themes that emerged as particularly important included relationship development, ongoing support, customized approaches, and opportunities for individual and organizational capacity development. The novelty of the KB role in public health provides a unique opportunity to assess the need for and reaction to the role and its associated activities. Future research should include studies to evaluate the effectiveness of KBs in different settings and among different health care professionals, and to explore the optimal preparation and training of KBs, as well as the identification of the personality characteristics most closely associated with KB effectiveness. Studies should also seek to better understand which combination of KB activities are associated with optimal evidence-informed decision making outcomes, and whether the combination changes in different settings and among different health care decision makers.</p
