    In this paper we present a new version of a GP financial forecasting tool, called EDDIE 8. The novelty of this version is that it allows the GP to search in the space of indicators, instead of using pre-specified ones. We compare EDDIE 8 with its predecessor, EDDIE 7, and find that new and improved solutions can be found. Analysis also shows that, on average, EDDIE 8's best tree performs better than the one of EDDIE 7. The above allows us to characterize EDDIE 8 as a valuable forecasting tool

    Investigating the influence of pectin content and structure on its functionality in bio-flocculant extracted from okra

    © 2020 The Author(s) Okra extract is known to have potential application as a bio-flocculant for wastewater treatment. However, no research to date has given insight into the components responsible for the flocculating ability of okra extract or its flocculating mechanism. The work presented here addresses this knowledge gap showing that pectin, especially pectin homogalacturonan (HGA) regions, appear to be the polysaccharides responsible for the flocculating ability of okra extract. The way pectin works in flocculation may be best explained by a polymer bridging mechanism. Specifically, a linear relationship between okra bio-flocculating ability and pectin homogalacturonan region to rhamnogalacturonan-I region weight ratio (HGA/RG-I) was found (y = 2.0x+47.6, R2 = 0.93, when GalA content > 300 mg/g extract), which was also validated using commercial citrus peel pectin

    Nucleon form factors, B-meson factories and the radiative return

    The feasibility of a measurement of the electric and magnetic nucleon form factors at BB-meson factories through the radiative return is studied. Angular distributions allow a separation of the contributions from the two form factors. The distributions are presented for the laboratory and the hadronic rest frame, and the advantages of different coordinate systems are investigated. It is demonstrated that Q2Q^2 values up to 8 or even 9 GeV2^2 are within reach. The Monte Carlo event generator PHOKHARA is extended to nucleon final states, and results are presented which include Next-to-Leading Order radiative corrections from initial-state radiation. The impact of angular cuts on rates and distributions is investigated and the relative importance of radiative corrections is analysed.Comment: 9 pages, 11 figures. Final version to appear in Eur.     Investigating the role of solvent type and microwave selective heating on the extraction of phenolic compounds from cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) pod husk

    Cacao pod husk (CPH) is a primary waste in the cacao industry that contains favourable natural antioxidants based on phenolic compounds. This study reported an investigation of the effect of extraction parameters to maximise the bioactive yields of CPH extract. The preliminary extraction was focused on high total phenolic content and continued to maximise the total monomeric anthocyanin and antioxidant activity that have the potential to be applied as food additives. The solvent selection and particle size were the key parameters for extraction to reach the maximum phenolic yield (100.4 ± 0.5 mg GAE/g dw). It was confirmed that 50% (v/v) aqueous ethanol was the most appropriate solvent, either based on experimental results or Hansen Solubility parameter prediction. At the same time, the comparison of microwave and conventional heating suggested that Microwave-assisted Extraction was the best method to get high phenolic content due to its selective heating effects. The results showed that the maximum bioactive yields were 0.37 ± 0.0 mg Cy3GE/g dw of anthocyanin and 3.36 ± 0.02 mg TE/g dw of antioxidants obtained under 50 °C and 5 min extraction time.
