    Get PDF
The problem of oxybarotherapy of uterine infertility was proposed as a proposition of a safe complementary method of fertility improvement. The possibilities of using hyperbaric therapy and new directions of its application have been presented. Indications of hyperbaric therapy are constantly modified and new fields of its applications are noticed. A project for the use of aerobic hyperbole in the world was described and the possibility of implementing therapy to Poland was indicated. The benefits of supplementary therapy, which is oksybaroterapy in the treatment of couples with impaired uterine fertility, are presented

Hyperbaric therapy of patients poisoned with carbon monoxide in the Hospital Emergency Department at University Hospital No. 1 named after Dr Antoni Jurasz in Bydgoszcz - preliminary report

The study is a preliminary report on the treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning at the Hospital Emergency Department at University Hospital No. 1 named after Dr. Antoni Jurasz in Bydgoszcz, with the use of oxybarotherapy in a monoplace chamber. Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a frequent cause of accidental and intentional injuries in the world. Many researchers suggest that the use of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) in CO poisoning, prevents the development of neurological sequelae. This led to the widespread use of HBO in the treatment of patients with carbon monoxide poisoning. The National Health Fund (NHF) reimburses patients treatment in a multi-person hyperbaric chamber. In the Hospital Emergency Department (HED) in Bydgoszcz there is a one-person hyperbaric chamber, which is mainly used to treat patients poisoned with CO. Treatment is also refunded by the NHF. The cost of treating the patient in the monoplace chamber is included in the contract - (lump sum) from NHF for HED

Structural pathways for ultrafast melting of optically excited thin polycrystalline Palladium films

Due to its extremely short timescale, the non-equilibrium melting of metals is exceptionally difficult to probe experimentally. The knowledge of melting mechanisms is thus based mainly on the results of theoretical predictions. This work reports on the investigation of ultrafast melting of thin polycrystalline Pd films studied by optical laser pump - X-ray free-electron laser probe experiments and molecular-dynamics simulations. By acquiring X-ray diffraction snapshots with sub-picosecond resolution, we capture the sample's atomic structure during its transition from the crystalline to the liquid state. Bridging the timescales of experiments and simulations allows us to formulate a realistic microscopic picture of melting. We demonstrate that the existing models of strongly non-equilibrium melting, developed for systems with relatively weak electron-phonon coupling, remain valid even for ultrafast heating rates achieved in femtosecond laser-excited Pd. Furthermore, we highlight the role of pre-existing and transiently generated crystal defects in the transition to the liquid state.Comment: main manuscript 33 pages, 9 figures; supplemental material 19 pages, 13 figures - all in one fil

Results of hyperbaric oxygenation in chronic wound healing – preliminary findings

    No full text
Introduction: Improved wound healing decreases the risk of complications, increases the possibilities of further treatment, rehabilitation, and care, and improves the quality of life for the patients. Aim of the research: The aim of this paper is to present the outcomes of a study of chronic wound healing using hyperbaric oxygenation therapy (HBOT). The indirect aim of the study was also to assess correlations, i.e. statistical relationships, between observed changes of pain assessment, wound length, wound width, and transcutaneous oximetry and establish prognostic signs. Material and methods : Inclusion criteria meet the medical records of thirty adult patients with chronic wounds treated with HBOT. Wound length, wound width, and transcutaneous oximetry were measured before and after treatment. The pain was evaluated using the numerical rating scale before and after treatment. Results: The response to HBOT varied from good to excellent. Favourable and statistically significant changes were observed in all measured areas: pain assessment, wound length, wound width, and transcutaneous oximetry. Conclusions : The HBOT in adult patients with chronic wounds is an effective method of treatment. Age above 60 years, sex (male), and lack of obesity, if confirmed by further studies, can be useful prognostic signs. However, there is still little evidence. There is a strong need for more research

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) might be taken into consideration as relatively novel method for brain repair. This article aims at analysis the extent to which the available ooprtunities are being exploited, including limitations associated with therapeutic use of HBOT in the therapy of post-stroke patients. Despite HBOT constitutes promising method in post-stroke patients  further research is needed to better define the role of HBOT in the therapy of post-stroke patients

MMP-10, MMP-7, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 mRNA expression in esophageal cancer

    No full text
Introduction: Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP) and the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are involved in the spread of cancer. Methods: We have evaluated the matrix metalloproteinases' (MMP-10, MMP-7) and their inhibitors' (tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases - TIMP-1, TIMP-2) mRNA expression in 61 esophageal cancer samples from patients who had undergone surgery, by using real-time quantitative RT-PCR, and correlated the results with the patient clinicopathologic features. Results: MMP-10, MMP-7, TIMP-1, TIMP-2 were overexpressed in 73%, 85%, 55% and 42% of esophageal cancer samples, respectively. The expression of MMP-10, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 correlated with the tumor size. The MMP-7 overexpression was associated with the tumour stage (I, II vs III, p=0.05) and lymph node metastasis (N0 vs N1, p=0.037). Conclusions: We conclude that in the resected esophageal cancer an increased mRNA expression of MMP-7, MMP-10 and TIMP-1 correlated with clinicopathologic features. We suggest that these genes may play a role during progression of the disease
