    Pengasuhan di Masa Early Childhood: Fathering Self Efficacy dan Parenting Stress pada Ayah yang Memiliki Anak Lebih Dari Satu

    Abstract. Fathers who have more than one child with an early childhood age range will face greater care demands, especially with the condition of the working mother in the family. The level of fathering self-efficacy plays an important role for father’s performance that is displayed, and has an impact on the stress that fathers experienced when undergoing parenting. This study aims to know the correlation between fathering self-efficacy and parenting stress. This study used a quantitative approach. Data were collected from 102 participants with age range 25-49 years old in Jabodetabek using the Fathering Self Efficacy Scale and Parenting Stress Scale The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between fathering self-efficacy and parenting stress on fathers who had more than one child. Tingkat keyakinan diri yang dimiliki oleh ayah dalam menjalani pengasuhan memegang peranan penting bagi performa yang ditampilkan, dan berdampak pada tekanan yang dialami ketika menjalani pengasuhan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk melihat hubungan antara fathering self-efficacy dan parenting stress. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Data yang dikumpulkan melibatkan 102 partisipan dengan rentang usia 25-49 tahun di Jabodetabek dengan menggunakan skala Fathering Self Efficacy dan skala Parenting Stress. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif yang signifikan antara fathering self-efficacy dan parenting stress pada ayah yang memiliki anak lebih dari satu. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa seorang ayah tidak menilai tantangan dalam pengasuhan sebagai stressor ketika memiliki keyakinan terhadap kemampuannya dalam pengasuhan.     Adapted Pool Cue

    Our primary goal was to develop an adaptive device to allow a user with limited upper body mobility to more effectively play a game of pool. Within this goal it was important to design around the concept of a least restrictive environment, in order to provide the user with as close to a standard pool playing experience as possible. The device was designed to specifically meet the needs of John Lee, an Assistive Technology Specialist at Cal Poly\u27s Disability Resource Center. Mr. Lee has muscular dystrophy, which limits his upper and lower body mobility and currently requires his use of a wheelchair. Research into the specific needs of our customer, current products, and pool game elements was performed to better understanding of the project goals. From this research and discussion with John Lee, customer requirements and engineering specifications were developed. These were then used to guide the design development process. Several ideation techniques were used, and concepts for a bridge mechanism and supporting bases were created. A rough prototype was developed to test the concepts before our final design direction was decided. Our final design acts as a robust bridge device with a self-supporting base that constrains the path of the pool cue to a set path, allowing the user to focus their effort on providing power to the shot. The base can be rolled around the table, and stabilizing posts are lowered through a cable system when the shot is being made to prevent the base from sliding. The shooting mechanism features horizontal and vertical angle adjustment to allow for proper positioning of the cue, as well as a small cue stop to adjust the allowable travel of the pool cue. A vertical height adjustment is also present to allow the mechanism to reach over the edge of the pool table and for special high angle shots. The shooting mechanism itself features fixed and sliding rollers that act as a modified pool bridge, limiting travel of the pool cue to one axis of motion. The top part of the device can be separated from the base and clamped to the upright post for easier transport. These design choices allow the device to be compatible with any size regulation pool cue. Engineering analysis was performed to select materials and size components for the final device. Parts were specified and costs recorded to keep within the program budget. The device was then manufactured to the specifications shown in the included technical drawings, and testing was performed to verify that the final product met the design requirements. The overall experience was successful, and the final product received strong approval from John Lee. Recommendations for potential future improvement of both manufacturing and design of the device are included, as are as tips for device operation

    A Next, Big Step for the West (Part II): Model Water-Climate Enabling Legislation with Commentary

    This model legislation is the culmination of an earlier work, A Next, Big Step for the West: Using Model Legislation to Create a Water- Climate Element in Local Comprehensive Plans.\u27 That articleargues that local governments, as the primary regulators of land use and population planning, are integral to our climate and drought response in the West. That article then calls for a new, freestanding waterclimate element in local government comprehensive plans that integrates the often disparate realms of land use, water use, and climate planning and better prepares communities for managing water in wise, resilient, and collaborative ways. 2 This approach offers the possibility of uniform water-climate planning across local jurisdictions and watersheds and pushes us to think beyond the short-term, assured supply paradigm that limits our current thinking.3 This approach also provides a tangible response to the emerging consensus that local-level initiatives may be the most essential path to confronting the climate challenges of our time.4 Inspired by the model land use enabling legislation that swept our nation in the 1920s, the earlier article generally outlines the content for new model enabling legislation that the state legislatures of today can adopt.5 What follows below is the specific language of that model legislation, patterned after its 1920s predecessors, with annotations and supporting commentary.

    The role of parental health and distress in assessing children’s health status

    Purpose The purpose of the study was to examine the contributions of parents’ health and distress to parent’s and children’s assessments of children’s health. Methods We used baseline data from a longitudinal study of 364 children (ages 4–12) about to undergo surgery and their parents in a Southern California pediatric hospital. We used the 20-item child self-reported CHRIS 2.0 general health and the parallel parent-reported measure of the child’s health, along with a measure of parental distress about the child’s health were administered in the perioperative period. Other measures included parents’ physical and mental health, quality of life, distress over their child’s health, and number and extent of other health problems of the child and siblings. Results On average, parents’ reports about the child were consistently and statistically significantly higher than children’s self-reports across all sub-dimensions of the CHRIS 2.0 measure. Parents’ personal health was positively associated with their reports of the child’s health. More distressed parents were closer to the child’s self-reports, but reported poorer personal health. Conclusion Parent–child differences in this study of young children’s health were related to parental distress. Exploring the nature of the gap between parents and children in assessments of children’s health could improve effective clinical management for the child and enhance family-centered pediatric care. Future studies are needed to assess the generalizability of CHRIS 2.0 to other health settings and conditions and to other racial/ethnic groups

    The intersection of video capsule endoscopy and artificial intelligence: addressing unique challenges using machine learning

    Introduction: Technical burdens and time-intensive review processes limit the practical utility of video capsule endoscopy (VCE). Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to address these limitations, but the intersection of AI and VCE reveals challenges that must first be overcome. We identified five challenges to address. Challenge #1: VCE data are stochastic and contains significant artifact. Challenge #2: VCE interpretation is cost-intensive. Challenge #3: VCE data are inherently imbalanced. Challenge #4: Existing VCE AIMLT are computationally cumbersome. Challenge #5: Clinicians are hesitant to accept AIMLT that cannot explain their process. Methods: An anatomic landmark detection model was used to test the application of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to the task of classifying VCE data. We also created a tool that assists in expert annotation of VCE data. We then created more elaborate models using different approaches including a multi-frame approach, a CNN based on graph representation, and a few-shot approach based on meta-learning. Results: When used on full-length VCE footage, CNNs accurately identified anatomic landmarks (99.1%), with gradient weighted-class activation mapping showing the parts of each frame that the CNN used to make its decision. The graph CNN with weakly supervised learning (accuracy 89.9%, sensitivity of 91.1%), the few-shot model (accuracy 90.8%, precision 91.4%, sensitivity 90.9%), and the multi-frame model (accuracy 97.5%, precision 91.5%, sensitivity 94.8%) performed well. Discussion: Each of these five challenges is addressed, in part, by one of our AI-based models. Our goal of producing high performance using lightweight models that aim to improve clinician confidence was achieved

    Combined heat and power and campus carbon footprint reduction

    Gemstone Team Cogeneration TechnologyCombined heat and power (CHP), the sequential generation of electrical and thermal energy in an integrated process, has emerged as an economically viable and immediately effective power generation method to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. CHP systems utilize both the electricity and waste heat created during energy production to increase fuel efficiency and decrease carbon emissions compared to conventional heat and power generation systems. This research examines the extent to which universities can decrease carbon emissions by identifying strategies for installation and operation of highly efficient, gas-fired CHP. To best identify how to enhance campus CHP, existing university plants were surveyed to benchmark how efficiently universities operate CHP. Strategies for increasing turbine efficiency were then considered. Demand for efficient CHP on university campuses was identified and connected to specific turbine characteristics. Policy frameworks to support the development of efficient CHP implementation and operation were examined and challenges identified. This report provides recommendations for overcoming technical, economic, and policy challenges to attain immediate emissions reductions through university usage of CHP
