Present consequences of the post-war migration in the Czech borderland for regional development
Czechia lost more than 3,000,000 inhabitants as a result of the WW II. Germans displaced from the borderland
formed the largest part. The newcomers after 1945 were of a different character – without any relation to their
new settlements. This population formed a special social milieu familiar with the socialist way of thinking and that of
a suppressed middle class. The consequences of it are seen in demographic, economic, environmental and social areas.
After 1989, the factories in the borderland were mostly closed down, armies left the territory, people were not prepared
to start their own businesses. Large-scale landscape protection formed a new barrier. Tourism is not able to substitute
for the decrease in employment. The hope in cross-border collaboration has been overestimated
Scalability of Nearest Neighbor Algorithm
This thesis deals with efficient algorithms used for k nearest neighbors. We introduced three different approaches. First of them is k-means clustering for kNN, second one is an approximate kNN graph construction using locality sensitive hashing and last one kNN on graphical processing unit. Most parts of implementations are writen in C++. In the end we measure real efficiency of given algorithms
Principy a nástrahy terminální hodnoty v DCF
The thesis deals with the topic of terminal value assessment in DCF models. Examining ten different techniques, the parameters behind, and the possible perils, its aim is to formulate the best practice for terminal value estimation. Afterwards, eleven of real business valuations are analyzed with the previously formulated best practice serving as a benchmark. Where possible, the impact of departures from the best practice on the estimated business value is quantified. The analysis confirms the hypothesis that practical terminal value assessments often diverge substantially from the best practice, which has a material impact on the resulting business value estimate

The article discusses the topic of terminal value estimation when valuing a business with the discounted cash flow methods. Derivation of the key terminal value parameters - free cash flow, discount rate, and growth rate - is the main theme of the article. The problem of terminal free cash flow derivation and the corresponding investment adequacy assumption is emphasized. The article reminds the danger of applying the last explicitly planned cash flow for the terminal value when the business has not become fully stabilized. The most important issues related to the terminal value assessment are illustrated on a practical example. The article is based primarily on the problems, questions, and insufficiencies that have been identified in real valuation reports.
