Influence of pions on the hadron-quark phase transition

In this work we present the features of the hadron-quark phase transition diagrams in which the pions are included in the system. To construct such diagrams we use two different models in the description of the hadronic and quark sectors. At the quark level, we consider two distinct parametrizations of the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) models. In the hadronic side, we use a well known relativistic mean-field (RMF) nonlinear Walecka model. We show that the effect of the pions on the hadron-quark phase diagrams is to move the critical end point (CEP) of the transitions lines. Such an effect also depends on the value of the critical temperature (T_0) in the pure gauge sector used to parametrize the PNJL models. Here we treat the phase transitions using two values for T_0, namely, T_0 = 270 MeV and T_0 = 190 MeV. The last value is used to reproduce lattice QCD data for the transition temperature at zero chemical potential.Comment: 3 pages. Large-scale variations of the dust optical properties in the Galaxy

We present an analysis of the dust optical properties at large scale, for the whole galactic anticenter hemisphere. We used the 2MASS Extended Source Catalog to obtain the total reddening on each galaxy line of sight and we compared this value to the IRAS 100 microns surface brightness converted to extinction by Schlegel et al (1998). We performed a careful examination and correction of the possible systematic effects resulting from foreground star contamination, redshift contribution and galaxy selection bias. We also evaluated the contribution of dust temperature variations and interstellar clumpiness to our method. The correlation of the near-infrared extinction to the far-infrared optical depth shows a discrepancy for visual extinction greater than 1 mag with a ratio A_V(FIR) / A_V(gal) = 1.31 +- 0.06. We attribute this result to the presence of fluffy/composite grains characterized by an enhanced far--infrared emissivity. Our analysis, applied to half of the sky, provides new insights on the dust grains nature suggesting fluffy grains are found not only in some very specific regions but in all directions for which the visual extinction reaches about 1 mag.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in A&

Position-dependent-mass; Cylindrical coordinates, separability, exact solvability, and PT-symmetry

The kinetic energy operator with position-dependent-mass in cylindrical coordinates is obtained. The separability of the corresponding Schr\"odinger equation is discussed within radial cylindrical mass settings. Azimuthal symmetry is assumed and spectral signatures of various z-dependent interaction potentials (Hermitian and non-Hermitian PT-symmetric) are reported.Comment: 16 page

Autoridades Coloniais e o Controle dos Escravos: Capitania do Espírito Santo, 1781-1821

Nesta dissertação buscou-se levantar o problema em torno da interferência do Estado nas relações escravistas pelas autoridades governamentais da capitania do Espírito Santo, entre 1781 a 1821. Por meio das ações escravas, mais especificamente as resistências, entendidas nesse trabalho desde a negociação cotidiana por melhores condições de vida no cativeiro a fugas, aquilombamentos e sublevações, objetivou-se analisar as representações políticas dos governadores da capitania acerca dessas ações. Os dados obtidos demonstraram que a escravidão não ocupou os assuntos do governo e nem consistiu em preocupação principal da agenda política dessas autoridades. O estabelecimento de acordos entre senhores e escravos apareceram como forma de preservar as relações escravistas no âmbito das relações senhoriais e apontaram para a natureza privada da escravidão nos domínios coloniais lusitanos. Ainda que a intervenção das autoridades governamentais tenha se dado em nome do bem-comum, a ação desses dirigentes não fora absoluta, limitada pela complexidade das relações estabelecidas no cotidiano da capitania do Espírito Santo. Serviram como base das inquirições correspondências administrativas entre os diversos níveis de poder na Capitania do Espírito Santo. As fontes foram compiladas, quantificadas e interpretadas à luz dos significados conferidos aos termos na época. Em grande parte, a análise constituiu-se da busca em dicionários e obras de referência para a interpretação dos documentos. Além das características gerais das preocupações das autoridades da capitania investidas pela Coroa lusitana, encontrou-se a amotinação de negros de duas fazendas de Guarapari (Guaraparim), localidade costeira a sul da capitania, que se prolongou por mais de 40 anos. Da confrontação entre esse caso singular e ordinária pouca atenção aos assuntos da escravidão pelas autoridades capixabas, pode-se perceber que a interferência do Estado, por meio dos governadores, ocorrera apenas quando eram solicitados para arbitrar conflitos pertinentes às relações senhoriais ou nos momentos em que as ações escravas pudessem colocar em risco a manutenção da ordem, a saber, na ocorrência de revoltas e desordens
