Majorana neutrino decay in an Effective Approach
The search strategy or the finding of new effects for heavy neutrinos often
relies on their different decay channels to detectable particles. In particular
in this work we study the decay of a Majorana neutrino with interactions
obtained from an effective general theory modeling new physics at the scale
. The results obtained are general because they are based in an
effective theory and not in specific models. We are interested in relatively
light heavy Majorana neutrinos, with masses lower than the mass
(). This mass range simplifies the study by reducing the possible
decay modes. Moreover, we found that for TV, the neutrino
plus photon channel could give explanation to different observations: we
analyze the potentiality of the studied interactions to explain some
neutrino-related problems like the MiniBooNE and SHALON anomalies. We show in
different figures the dominant branching ratios and the decay length of the
Majorana neutrino in this approach. This kind of heavy neutral leptons could be
searched for in the LHC with the use of displaced vertices techniques. \Comment: 15 page, 5 figure
Bolsista PIBIC/UNIL
Angular and polarization trails from effective interactions of Majorana neutrinos at the LHeC
We study the possibility of the LHeC facility to disentangle different new physics contributionsto the production of heavy sterile Majorana neutrinos in the lepton number violating channele−p → l+j + 3jets (lj ≡ e, µ). This is done investigating the angular and polarization trails ofeffective operators with distinct Dirac-Lorentz structure contributing to the Majorana neutrinoproduction, which parameterize new physics from a higher energy scale. We study an asymmetryin the angular distribution of the final anti-lepton and the initial electron polarization effect on thenumber of signal events produced by the vectorial and scalar effective interactions, finding bothanalyses could well separate their contributions.Fil: Duarte, Lucia. The GM1 Ganglioside Forms GM1-Rich Gel Phase Microdomains within Lipid Rafts
Abstract: Mercury-supported, self-assembled monolayers of the sole (SAMs) dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC)and of a raft -forming mixture of DOPC, cholesterol (Chol) and palmitoylsphingomyelin of (59:26:15) mol% composition(PSM) , were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), both in the absence and in the presence of the monosialoganglioside GM1. The impedance spectra of these four SAMs were fitted by a series of parallel combinations of a resistance and a capacitance ( RC meshes) and displayed on plots of ω Z ′ against −ω Z ″, where Z ′ and Z ″ are the in -phase and quadrature components of the impedance and is the angular frequency. A comparison among these ωdifferent impedance spectra points to the formation of GM1-rich gel phase microdomains within the lipid rafts of the DOPC/Chol/PSM mixture, thanks to the unique molecular-level smooth support provided by mercury, whichallows EIS to detect the protruding gel phase microdomains by averaging them over a macroscopically large area
Association genetics of sucrose, glucose, and fructose contents with SNP markers in Solanum tuberosum Group Phureja
Abstrat. High contents of sucrose (non-reducing sugar), glucose and fructose (reducing sugars) in potato tubers represent an undesirable trait for fry processing because reducing sugars lead to potato darkening and the production of toxic compounds such as acrylamide that reduce consumer’s acceptance and generate risks for human health. Association genetics analysis is a strategy to study the molecular basis of complex traits as tuber sugar contents. Colombia leads the production of diploid genotypes named “Creole potato”, which belong to the cultivated Group Phureja and present outstanding organoleptic and nutritional properties. Currently, there are not Phureja cultivars suitable for chip processing because of high levels of reducing sugars in the tubers. The main purpose of this research is to determine the candidate gene regions influencing sucrose, glucose and fructose contents in Solanum tuberosum Group Phureja. Tubers from 108 accessions of the Colombian Core Collection and four commercial cultivars were sown in pots in Soacha (Cundinamarca, 2850 m above the sea level) for sugar content analyses. The harvest of three plants of each genotype constituted three biological replicates. The sugar contents of Phureja genotypes were quantified through a liquid chromatographic method developed and validated using an AMINEX87H column with sulfuric acid 10 mM as eluent. Sucrose, glucose and fructose genotypic mean values varied from 6.39-29.48 mg/g tuber dried weight (DW), 0.46-28.04 mg/g tuber DW, and 0.29-27.23 mg/g tuber DW, respectively. Association analysis was carried out with 111 SNP markers identified in candidate genes with key function in carbohydrate metabolism. This analysis revealed four SNP markers in the locus InvGE from an apoplastic invertase and one SNP marker in the locus SssI from a soluble starch synthase with significant effect in sugar content variation. These enzymes have not been found expressed in mature tubers, therefore these SNP-trait associations might be indirect resulting from the linkage disequilibrium with causal variants, or direct through a potential novel role of these candidate genes controlling sugar contents in tubers.
Within and beyond the sea: immigrants and cities
Two types of structures were fabricated in laboratory, and for these prototypes, reduced scale models were designed and constructed according to the structural elastic similitude conditions. These models were fabricated with different materials and geometric scales, and the number of joints in these two types of structures were modified. These variations in the models were imposed so as to verify their influence on the non-dimensional parameter: damping factors. It was observed that for the studied structures, the damping factors depend strongly on the material used in their fabrication. It is good to notice however, that all the tested structures have linear behaviour and no attempt was made to control the stress level in the joints.
