An Isospin Analysis of Violation in , and
By use of current experimental data, we carry out an isospin analysis of the
weak decays and . It is found that only in
the strong phase shift of two different isospin amplitudes
can be approximately neglected. We derive some useful relations between the
-violating measurables and the weak and strong transition phases, and
illustrate the different effects of final-state interactions on violation

little more material is added. (Accepted for publication in Phys. Lett. B
Effect of the Space-like Penguin Diagrams on CP Asymmetries in Exclusive B Decays
The space-like penguin contributions were ignored on little ground in many
previous studies of nonleptonic B decays and CP violation. Taking the
penguin-dominated channels and
for example, we illustrate the
non-negligible effects of the space-like penguin diagrams on CP asymmetries.
Some quali- tative remarks are given on the gluonic penguin picture and the
direct CP violation in exclusive two-body decays of B mesons.Comment: 10 Latex pages, 2 figures. (Accepted for publication in Physics

Investigation of RNA Binding Protein Pumilio as a Genetic Modifier of Mutant CHMP2B in Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD): A Masters Thesis
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is the second most common early-onset dementia. A rare mutation in CHMP2B gene was found to be associated with FTD linked to chromosome 3. Previous studies have shown that mutant CHMP2B could lead to impaired autophagy pathway and altered RNA metabolism. However, it is still unknown what genes mediate the crosstalk between different pathways affected by mutant CHMP2B. Genetic screens designed to identify genes interacting with mutant CHMP2B represents a key approach in solving the puzzle. Expression of mutant CHMP2B (CHMP2Bintron5) in Drosophila eyes leads to a neurodegenerative phenotype including melanin deposition and disrupted internal structure of ommatidia. The phenotype is easily quantified by estimating the percentage of black dots on the surface of the eyes. Using this established Drosophila model, I searched for genes encoding RNA binding proteins that genetically modify CHMP2Bintron5 toxicity. I found that partial loss of Pumilio, a translation repressor, mitigates CHMP2Bintron5 induced toxicity in the fly eyes. Western blot analysis showed that down regulation of Pumilio does not significantly decrease CHMP2Bintron5 protein level, indicating indirect regulation involved in suppression of the phenotype. The molecular targets regulated by Pumilio and the mechanism underlying CHMP2Bintron5 toxicity suppression by Pumilio down-regulation requires further investigation
Nova metoda s probnom jednadžbom za točna rješenja nelinernih diferencijalnih jednadžbi za putujuće valove
We propose an new trial equation method to solve nonlinear differential equations. By this method, we obtain some exact solutions to the RLW-Burgers equation and the (2+1)-dimensional KdV-Burgers equation.Predlažemo novu metodu s probnom jednadžbom za rješavanje diferencijalnih jednadžbi. Tom metodom nalazimo neka točna rješenja RLW-Burgersove i (2+1)- dimenzijske KdV-Burgersove jednadžbe

Lepton Mass Hierarchy and Neutrino Mixing
We speculate that the mass spectrum of three neutrinos might have a normal
hierarchy as that of three charged leptons or that of three up-type (or
down-type) quarks. In this spirit, we propose a novel parametrization of the
lepton flavor mixing matrix. Its mixing angles and
can be related to the mass ratios and in a
specific texture of lepton mass matrices with vanishing (1,1) elements:
and . The
latter relation, together with solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillation data,
predicts 0.0030 eV 0.0073 eV, 0.009 eV 0.012 eV and 0.042 eV 0.058 eV. The smallest
neutrino mixing angle is found to be , which is experimentally accessible in the near future.Comment: RevTex 10 pages, 2 figure
A Simplified Approach to Determine and the Penguin Amplitude in
The effect of inelastic final-state interactions (IFSI's) on the
determination of the weak phase from the isospin triangles of
is qualitatively illustrated. Neglecting the electroweak
penguins and IFSI's and assuming the dominance of the top-quark loop in strong
penguin diagrams, we propose an experimentally accessible way to approximately
determine and the penguin amplitude in . This
approach relies on a simplified isospin consideration and the factorization
approximation, and its feasibility is irrelevant to the time-dependent
measurements of .Comment: This work has been accepted for publication in Phys. Lett. B. In the
revised version, we add a new section to give a qualitative illustration of
the effect of inelastic final-state interactions on the determination of the
weak phase from the isospin triangles of . 10 Latex
