This work is part of a larger research, which investigates language status in 'homemade signs'. This is a review of previous research, considering the relevance of knowing the works developed in the area, the phenomena focused on and what aspect still need to be studied. We aimed to inventory and to analyze the dissertations and theses, which address 'homemade signs', found primarily in the Capes database, from the period between 2003 and 2019. To do so, we opted for bibliographical research of the 'state of the art' type, which has the purpose of mapping a certain academic production. As a result, we found 11 researches, among which 18,18% present analyses on 'homemade signs', and the rest investigate indigenous signs. We found, from the data, that, despite the great contribution of these studies in the academic scenario, regarding the linguistic nature of the 'homemade sign' systems, this is still discussed in an incipient way, which corroborates the need for further investigation. © 2019 All rights reservedObjective: Sleep is of upmost importance for everybody and especially for adolescents who face life and leisure challenges that may impair their sleep. This study aimed to verify if girls are at a higher risk to present sleep problems and if associations of a sleep perception are different between sexes even when accounting for biological maturation. Methods: Data is from the HBSC Portuguese survey 2014, all variables were self-reported. Participants were 3869 adolescents (2057 girls), mean age 14.8 years. Participants’ socio-demographic characteristics included sex, age, school grade, father and mother education; besides participants were inquired about sleep duration and characteristics of their sleep quality. Results: Sleep deprivation was reported by 13.1% of the adolescents (girls 14.3%, boys 11.7%, p<0.05). The most prevalent characteristics of poor sleep quality were waking up tired (50.8%) and difficulties falling asleep (19.5%), for both girls presented higher prevalence than boys. Overall, girls presented a poorer sleep health with low quality and quantity of sleep. Furthermore, associations of an enough and good sleep were different between boys and girls, even when controlling for the impact of delayed pubertal maturity. Discussion: Together with screen time, substance use, poorer nutrition, sedentary behaviours and abuse of screen time, sleep is an issue that must be addressed by professionals, families and public policies with impact in family life and family routines. Modelling a health education in schools should include the sleep topic. In addition, yes, sex matters and must be included on board.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Broadening citizen participation in scientific knowledge production has become a priority of national and supra-national institutions and research agencies. Out of their interest for scientific research and public learning, citizen science projects are often presented as offering a unique opportunity to involve more directly the public in policy-making. However, despite twenty years of flourishment of participative scientific research, making citizen science a tool to foster participatory democracy remains a challenge. Political outputs of citizen science are indeed often restricted to its role in the production of data to inform policy making processes. In this paper, we propose an innovative theoretical model of democratization through citizen science, in which participative data collection is associated with public online deliberation. Drawing both on online political deliberation research and citizen science literature, we argue that citizens’ engagement in contributory science could help create the conditions of good-quality public deliberations. We then present a technical device (an online platform) that put this model into practice in the context of the regulation of public lighting in two French municipalities

As aulas e atividades foram realizadas sob o prisma afrocentrado.: This text is the result of a reflection raised after a field class, which encompassed several areas of knowledge. In order to highlight the scientific knowledge made by other peoples, other than the European white / colonizer; in other words, a decolonization of science education marked by disregard for contributions, knowledge, techniques employed by traditional peoples, and Africans. The interdisciplinary class (History and Chemistry) in question was a field class at the Nautical Museum of Bahia, among 2nd year students at Colégio Estadual Assis Chateaubriand, in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. In it, the students were able to have access not only to a historical monument, but also to “touch” the past and notice that especially the enslaved Africans also brought with them knowledge and technologies. Among the knowledge recovered in Sciences, we highlight for this work the knowledge of iron metallurgy in West Africa, which greatly influenced the social and economic relations of this population in the diaspora and in their homeland - from crafts (blacksmiths, miners) to rituals and uses of this metal in the most diverse areas. The foundry process brought technical and practical advances to civilizations, instrumentalizing man in his daily activities - from domestic to work -, as well as with regard to war use, given the manufacture of white weapons and firearms - cannons - and the trade that was articulated between the times and the continents

Environmental Diagnosis of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) of the Capibaribe River in the city of Recife – PE

    Get PDF
The Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) is critical in the preservation of water resources, highlighting the quality of waterways and maintenance of its volume. However, urban sprawl and the lack of public policies produce undesirable consequences for the population of the deforested region and for the part of the basin that is fed by these waters. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the environmental impacts that enhance the degradation of the river Capibaribe APP, located in Recife. They were predetermined two points (Joana Bezerra and rabbits neighborhood) in which it identified the on-site impact and made a qualitative analysis of areas. It was observed that the chosen points are with APP well below what is determined by the existing laws, in most cases, they are the result of human activities. The release of solid waste and organic matter in these areas leverage the APP degradation, directly affecting the physical and biological characteristics of rivers. Thus, the implementation of awareness programs is critical to population and also an effective surveillance system to combat the impact of permanent preservation areas
