This study aims at understanding the relationship between participative decision making (organizational culture, organizational power, organizational effectiveness and organizational loyalty) and gender, taking into consideration age variables. In addition, it has attempted to determine if there is an inter-relation between the four subscales of participative decision making. 80 academicians working at Sinop University participated in the study. The obtained data was analyzed in SPSS program package. The results of the analysis have shown that there is no relation between demographic variables (age and gender) and the four subscales of participative decision making: organizational effectiveness, organizational power, organizational loyalty and organizational culture.Ovo istraživanje pokušava doprinijeti razumijevanju veza između skupnoga donošenja odluka (organizacijske kulture, organizacijske moći, organizacijske učinkovitosti i odanosti organizaciji) i spola, uzimajući u obzir varijablu dobi.

Assessing The Relationship Between Liberalization, Ownership And Performance: The Case Of Turkish Banks

    Get PDF
This paper employs a DEA-type Malmquist index approach to evaluate the impact of financial liberalization on the productivity changes of public, private and foreign banks in Turkey during the period between 1981 and 1990. The results indicate that all forms of banks have benefited from financial liberalization. However, foreign banks were found to be the most productive, followed by private banks and public banks respectively. The major source of productivity gains is scale changes for public and private banks and technical progress for foreign banks. It also seems that productivity growth indices of all banks converge towards the end of liberalization period

Problem: The term emotional intelligence attracts the interest of the researchers and practices are from the management filed due to its' contributions to performance, job satisfaction, organizational participation and leadership, increasingly in 21st century. The studies in Turkey mainly focused on the effect of emotional intelligence on work life and performance of the employees (Titrek, 2000). Another issue which also gets attention in management field are the moral values which constitutes an important part of the organizational culture (Çelik, 2000, cited in Kahraman, 2003) and the moral leadership (Bleijerveld, 2001).When the teacher candidates considered as being a moral leaders as well as instructional leaders, it is important to investigate their emotional intelligence with regard to their ethical reasoning ability. In literature, these two concepts were studied mainly in private organizations. In addition to this, there are very few studies in educational organizations.Purpose of the Study: Purpose of this study was to investigate the ethical reasoning abilities of the teacher candidates with relation to their genders, ages, departments and the size of the city they have grown by controlling their emotional intelligence.Method: For data collection, a questionnaire consists of three parts was used. In first part, there were question for gathering information on demographic characteristics of participants. In the second part there was a measure for understanding the emotional intelligence levels of the participants and in the third part there another measure understanding the ethical reasoning abilities of the participants. Questionnaires were administered to the 250 randomly selected teacher candidates, who were continuing to their education in Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, just at the beginning of the spring term in 2006-2007 academic year.  Eight of the questionnaires were removed from the study by researchers since many of the items were not marked or some of items were marked twice. Because of this reason, 242 of the questionnaire were included in data analysis procedure. Frequencies (f), percentages (%), correlations (r) and ANCOVA analyses were conducted by using SPSS 11.5.Results and Recommendations: Results of this study yielded that there is small relation between emotional intelligence and ethical reasoning abilities of the participants. In addition, gender, age, department and the city size that participants have grown do not have a significant effect on the relationship between ethical reasoning ability and emotional intelligence. In this study emotional intelligence was handled as a unique concept, a further research may handle examine sub-dimensions of the emotional intelligence with regard to ethical reasoning ability. At the same time ethical reasoning ability tried to be measured by a Likert type questionnaire in this study, however an open ended measure can be used for measuring this factor with an aim to let the participants express themselves better. For this reason, structured and/or semi structured interviews techniques which can be conducted by an expert interviewer may lead a more reliable results. Öğretmen adaylarının etik muhakeme yeteneklerinin değerlendirilmesinde  Richmond (2001)'ın,  "Ethical Reasoning, Machiavellian Behavior, and Gender:The Impact on Accounting Students' Ethical Decision Making"  adlı anket Türkçe'ye çevrilmiş ve uyarlanmıştır.

Objective: Our study aimed to assess the relation between APACHE II and SOFA scores of critically ill patients on their first day of admission and the timing of percutaneous dilatational tracheotomy (PDT).Methods: Following approval of the Ethics Board of Health Sciences University Istanbul Bağcılar Educational Research Hospital (25.08.2016-2016/495), data of all 91 patients who had been treated with PDT in the ICU between June 1, 2014 and June 1, 2016 have been retrospectively evaluated. We recorded the following information: demographical data (such as age, sex, body mass index) that could be obtained from patient records, APACHE II and SOFA scores on their first day in ICU, and PDT timing. Results: There was no statistically significant difference observed between the timing of the PDT and APACHE II and SOFA scores (p>0.05).Conclusion: Our results showed that most of the patients with PDT had an APACHE II score of 15-24. We noticed that the number of patients with an APACHE II score of 24 and higher was notably lower than the number of patients with scores between 15-24. The fact that the life expectancy for the patient group with a high APACHE II score is low may call the tracheostomy decision into question. On the other hand, no relation was found between differences in APACHE II and SOFA scores and the starting time of PDT

1632-1635The stability constants for the nickel(II) and copper(II)-α-amino acid (glycine, L-alanine, L -valine, L-leucine, L -isoleucine, L-serine,L -phenylalanine and L-methionine) binary complex systems have been studied using pH-measurements in 40% ethanol-60% water mixture. The study shows that at 25°C and ionic strength at 0.10 M the following species are present in this solvent mixture: CuHL2+, CuL+, CUL2 for copper(II) complexes and NiL+, NiL2, NiL3- for nickel(II) complexes. The stability of the nickel(II) complexes is lower than that of the copper(II) complexes. The study shows that the tendency of a-amino acids to form complexes with metal(II) ions is greater in 40% ethanol-60% water mixture as compared to that in only water

The Effect Of Item Weighting On Reliability And Validity

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the item weighting method developed by researchers on the construct validity of the test. For this purpose, a Monte Carlo simulation study was carried out. Test length, average factor loadings, and sample size were considered as simulation conditions. Item weighting method was defined as follows: If average score of the individuals (calculated as individual's test score/the number of items) plus item difficulty index is 1 and over then item reliability index added to individual's item score (1 or 0); if not, then the item score of the individual (1 if 1, 0 if 0) is preserved. As a result of the research, it was observed that the weighting method contributes to the construct validity. According to the results of confirmatory factor analysis, the comparative fit index (CFI) and the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) values were improved. According to the research findings, the weighting method used in this research can be recommended.WoSScopu

960-962The stoichiometric protonati on constants of 15 esters (methyl and ethyl esters of glycine, L-alanine, L -valine, L - leucine, L -phenylalanine, L -serine, L -methionine and methyl ester of L -isoleucine) in 20-80% (v/v) ethanol-water mixtures have been determined. The effect of solvent on α -amino acid methyl- and ethyl esters have also been determined at ionic strength of 0. 1 M NaCl and at 25°C under nitrogen atmosphere. A potentiometric method is used and the calculation of the constants has been carried out using PKAS computer programme. The logarithm of the protonation constants of α-amino acid esters is found to decrease linearly with increase in ethanol contents. The variation of these constants is discussed on the basis of specific solute-solvent interactions

    No full text
Objective: Prominent ear is one of the most frequent congenital deformities of the ear. The major causes are often due to an underdeveloped antihelical fold, conchal hypertrophy, and a prominent ear lobule. More than 200 different techniques have been described so far. This report presents the effectiveness of a combined technique (Mustarde suture, Furnas suture, and conchal excision), which is frequently used in prominent ear treatment to prevent recurrence

A Case Of Erythema Multiforme Associated With Pustules: Coexistence Of Erythema Multiforme Minor And Acute Generalized Exanthamatous Pustulosis

    No full text
Adverse cutaneous drug reactions (ACDRs) can mimic a variety of dermatologic diseases, causing confusion and additional work-up for differential diagnoses. In this report, a case who admitted with non-follicular pustules with extensive targetoid lesions during follow-up is presented. In this case, erythema multiforme (EM)-like lesions were predominant and pustules that were concordant with acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis were thought to be triggered after drug intake. ACDRs can mimic several different infectious and inflammatory entities, and they should be kept in mind in cases accompanied by EM-like lesions with pustules. To our knowledge, EM-like lesions with a small number of pustules are first described in the literature in this case report.WoSScopu
