    Bu çalışmada Avrupa ülkelerinde 1956 yılından bu yana her yıl düzenlenen Eurovision Şarkı Yarışması’nda (ESC) bir şarkının başarısına coğrafik ve kültürel komşuluğun etki edip etmediği araştırılmaktadır. Özellikle Eurovision’un oylama sisteminin 1998 yılında değiştirilerek halkın da internet veya telefonla oy kullanmasına imkan veren tele-oylama sisteminin getirtilmesi ile ülkeler arasında taraf tutma eğiliminin giderek arttığı gözlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, hem kültürel hem de coğrafi komşuluk bir şarkının başarısını etkileyen temel unsurlardandır.In this study we are investigating if geographical and cultural neighborhood has a significant impact on success of a song in a well-known popular song contest, Eurovision Song Contest, held every year in European countries since 1956. It has been observed that tendency to logrolling between countries has increased especially after the changing of the voting system of the Eurovision from jury system to the tele-voting system, allowing the public to select their favorite candidates via the internet or telephone. According to our findings, both geographical and cultural neighborhoods are statistically significant determinants of success of a song in the ESC

    The Effects of Electronic Surveillance on Job Tension, Task Performance and Organizational Trust

    Background: In contemporary work models, employees use the Internet and electronic devices more than ever. This phenomenon has also changed the way of monitoring employees and generated a new form called \u27electronic surveillance\u27. Objectives: The central purpose of this paper is to reveal the effects of electronic surveillance on job tension, task performance, and employees\u27 organizational trust. Methods/Approach: Survey research was applied as a quantitative method to collect data. Surveys were generated as Likert-type scales, and they were distributed by hand because the use of the in-person survey technique was employed throughout the study. The research sample was created using the purposive sampling technique, and it included 228 participants from fifteen different branches of one of the biggest private banks in Turkey. Results: Electronic surveillance in the workplace has turned out to have positive effects on job tension and task performance, whereas it harms organizational trust. Conclusions: When the degree of electronic surveillance increases, the job tension level of employees tends to increase as well. Additionally, task performance increases when electronic surveillance increases. But this is not the case with organizational trust since electronic surveillance affects it negatively

    On Better Approximation Order for the Nonlinear Baskakov Operator of Maximum Product Kind

    Using maximum instead of sum, nonlinear Baskakov operator of maximum product kind is introduced by Bede et al. The present paper deals with the approximation processes for this operator. Especially in , it was indicated that the order of approximation of this operator to the function f under the modulus is and it could not be improved except for some subclasses of functions.     Determining the Mental Images of Fourth Grade Private and Public School Students for Science Learning Environments by Drawing Technique

    The study aims to examine fourth-grade private and public-school students’ images of the science learning environment using their drawings. The survey was conducted in the 2017-2018 academic year, and a descriptive survey model was used. Participant group of this study consist of 357 fourth-grade students. In this study, data were collected by drawing technique. Content analysis, percentage, frequency, and Chi-Square test of independence were used in data analysis. Regarding the study results, although the learning environment in both schools consists of traditional classrooms and laboratories, differences were observed in student drawings according to school type (public-private). The private school students use the laboratory in science lessons, whereas the students in the public school use the teacher's desk as the experiment table. Another significant result of the study is that public-school students' priority is understanding the topic. In contrast, private school students assign more importance to the materials. Regarding the independence test results, Founding student behavior, teacher behavior, teacher position, and teaching method to differ in student images according to school type. But no found a significant difference between the place theme images of public school and private school student

    THE EFFECT OF “ARGUMENT-BASED SCIENCE INQUIRY” APPROACH ON SCIENCE TEACHER CANDIDATES' ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

    Science education, when it is dealt with in terms of subject, activities and target behaviours, is an open area to inquiry and development. However, this case is interpreted from a different point of view in a lot of educational institutions in our country (Turkey). The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of “Argument-Based Science Inquiry (ABSI)” approach on the academic achievements of 3rd grade Science Education teacher candidates by applying this approach to the activities and establishing a suitable educational environment, and to reveal their thoughts about it. Mixed methods research has been used in this paper. In the quantitative dimension of the research, a pre-test post-test control group experimental design has been used. At the end of the implementation process, an achievement test has been applied to both groups, and results have been analyzed statistically. The results have shown that there is a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of experimental group, and ABSI approach has a positive effect on student success. In the qualitative dimension of the study, semi-structured interviews have been used with the experimental group’s teacher candidates. Data have been analyzed through content analysis method. In accordance with all findings, it is deduced that the ABSI activities affect the academic achievement of teacher candidates more positively than the classical laboratory practices in Laboratory Practices II class.Keywords: argument-based science inquiry, science laboratory activities, science education, academic success

    Exogenous potassium nitrate alleviates salt-induced oxidative stress in maize

    The effects of the exogenous potassium nitrate application on major antioxidant enzymes, photosynthetic pigment content, malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide and free proline were investigated in salt-stressed (75 mM NaCl) maize genotype (ADA 9510). Plants were grown in growth chamber for ten days. After five days of applications (control, 0 mM NaCl), S75 (75 mM NaCl), potassium nitrate (3 mM KNO3) and S75 + potassium nitrate (75 mM NaCl + 3 mM KNO3), plants were harvested. The results showed that salt stress significantly decreased chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll contents and increased the activities of superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase. Malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide and free proline contents were increased by salt stress. These results showed that salinity led to the oxidative stress and destruction of photosynthetic pigments in maize leaves. The exogenous potassium nitrate application, on the other hand, caused to the increased chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll and total carotenoid, elevated level of ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase, and decreased malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide and free proline content. This kind of changes may indicate that the exogenous potassium nitrate application activates the antioxidant defence system and counteract the oxidative stress. Thus, it may be concluded that the exogenous potassium nitrate application improves salt tolerance and encourage the growth of maize plants under salt stress at early seedling stage. The constant renewal of the mind, to consolidate the information and to be able to enjoy a better quality of life “lifelong learning” can be provided with. The first stage of this study, the ‘lifelong learning’ in order to understand correctly the concept of a literature review will be conducted. The second stage Context of lifelong learning, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality is located in Kocaeli, Izmit district Vocational and Art Education Course (KO-MEK) managers 'lifelong learning' examined the perception and individuals of these training centers have investigated what kind of contributions provide. This case study is phenomenological and descriptive study aimed at determining been prepared on the basis of qualitative research techniques. Research, located in thirteen districts of Izmit Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Vocational and Art Education Course (KO-MEK) was conducted as face to face meetings with managers. This study aimed to determine the KO-MEK manage the perception of lifelong learning. Findings of this study will create a lifelong learning concept to be considered good examples KO-MEK centers, showing activities for the education of people of all ages, it is clear that individuals develop in various fields. Managers, following studies and developments made in the lifelong learning field, they try to improve themselves on this issue, an managers in the necessity of lifelong learning, and they know the importance, were identified as a result of work done. Occupation and art education in the field of serving corporate executives 'lifelong learning' philosophy to provide services by getting them principles and a constant change in this area and developments demonstrate the necessity, are among suggestions put forward in this study. ÖzetBireylerin gündelik yaşamlarını, topluma ve toplumda yaşanan her türlü gelişmeye uyumlu bir şekilde sürdürebilmesi, bireyin zihnini sürekli yenilemesi ile mümkündür. Zihnin sürekli yenilenmesi, bilgilerin pekiştirilmesi ve daha kaliteli bir yaşam sürebilmek “yaşam boyu öğrenme” ile sağlanabilir. Bu çalışmanın ilk aşamasında, ‘yaşam boyu öğrenme’ kavramını doğru anlayabilmek adına bir literatür taraması yapılmıştır. İkinci aşamada ise yaşam boyu öğrenme kapsamında, Kocaeli ilinin İzmit ilçesinde bulunan Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi Meslek ve Sanat Eğitimi Kurs (KO-MEK) yöneticilerinin ‘yaşam boyu öğrenme’ algısı incelenmiş ve bu eğitim merkezlerinin bireye ne tür katkılar sağladığı araştırılmıştır. Bu araştırma durum saptamaya yönelik fenomonolojik ve betimsel bir çalışma olup, nitel araştırma teknikleri temel alınarak hazırlanmıştır. Araştırma, İzmit ilçesinde bulunan on üç adet KO-MEK yöneticileri ile yüz yüze görüşme şeklinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışma ile KO-MEK yöneticilerinin yaşam boyu öğrenme algısının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda yaşam boyu öğrenme kavramına iyi bir örnek oluşturacağı düşünülen KO-MEK merkezlerinin, her yaştan bireyin eğitimi için faaliyet göstererek, çeşitli alanlarda bireyleri geliştirdiği açıktır. Yöneticilerin, yaşam boyu öğrenme alanında yapılan çalışma ve gelişmeleri takip ederek, kendilerini de bu konuda geliştirmeye çalıştıkları, birer yönetici olarak yaşam boyu öğrenmenin gerekliliğini ve önemini bildikleri, yapılan çalışma sonucunda saptanmıştır. Meslek ve Sanat eğitimi alanında hizmet veren kurum yöneticilerinin ‘yaşam boyu öğrenme’ felsefesini kendilerine ilke edinerek hizmet vermeleri ve bu alanda sürekli bir değişim ve gelişme göstermeleri gerekliliği, bu çalışma kapsamında getirilecek öneriler arasında sayılabilir
