    Integrating Local Binary Pattern Image Transformations and Customized Deep Learning Models for Enhanced Fetal Cardiac Anomaly Detection

    This research focuses on developing a deep learning diagnostic model for diagnosing fetal cardiac anomalies from real time ultrasound scan images. The dataset framed in the previous research is transformed using Local Binary Pattern (LBP) technique which is trained with the deep learning models to create the classifiers. These models are used to classify the Real Time images captured by ultrasound scanning machines. The LBP is a texture image feature. LBP captures the local structure and patterns within an image by comparing the intensity values of each pixel with its surrounding neighbours. The LBP operator assigns a binary code to each pixel based on the comparison results, resulting in a texture representation of the image. The FetaEcho_V05 dataset is transformed into an LBP image dataset titled as FetalEcho_V0501. This dataset is used for creating the classifiers by training the custom CNN(CCNN), AlexNet, VGG16 and ResNet50 deep learning models. The classifiers are evaluated for its overall classification performance and class wise evaluation performance using the metrics the precision, recall, accuracy and F1 score metrics. When the overall performance is considered, the CCCNN model performed the best on the FetalEcho_V0501 dataset

    Isolation, purification, characterization and applications of serine protease from Bacillus megaterium

    Bacillus megaterium isolated from poultry farm soil was identified by standard biochemical tests and screened for the production of serine protease. Production of serine protease was done using 5 different medias by varying the type of amino acid added. The purification was done by salt precipitation, dialysis and DEAEcellulose ion exchange chromatography. The proline containing media obtained the highest fold purification out of the five different medias (leucine, lysine, proline, tryptophan and methionine cotaining media). The enzyme showedan optimal activity at the temperature 37°C and the pH 6 which are known as its optimum temperature and pH respectively. The enzyme was proved as a Mn2+ dependent serine protease as it was activated by Mn2+ ions and inhibited by PMSF. The molecular weight of the enzyme was determined by SDS-PAGE technique as around 30kDa. It showed an excellent detergent activity on the blood stains and a very good stability in presence of locally available detrgents. The enzyme acted on the keratin protein of the chicken feather and showed a degrading capacity on the protein. So it was proved that the recently studied serine protease has a keratinase activity also. From these datas I conclude that the protease isolated from Bacillus megaterium is a Mn2+ dependent serine protease which has both keratinase and detergent activity

    Concrete is the single most widely used construction material in the world. Concrete is used in such large amounts because it is simply, a remarkably good building material. Aggregates generally occupy 60 to 80 percent of the volume of concrete and greatly influence its properties, mix proportions and economy. Use of vermiculite in concrete, enhances the shrinkage and crack resistance, fire resistance and reduces environmental impact and also reduces the cost. Important characteristics of a good quality aggregate include resistance to abrasion, resistance to freeze/thaw action, resistance to sulfates, correct shape and surface texture, proper gradation, density, and compressive and flexural strength. The main purpose of the research is to study the strength parameters such as compressive strength, split tensile amp flexural strength of concrete using vermiculite as partial replacement with 40%, 50% and 60% by weight.     STUDY ON THE ANTIMICROBIAL EFFICACY OF HAND SANITIZERS DEVELOPED BY THE PHARMACEUTICAL CORPORATION (I.M) KERALA LTD (OUSHADHI)

    Hand sanitizers are used to ensure hygiene in the absence of hand washing facilities or where frequent sanitizing is required especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Handsanitizers using different combinations were prepared at Oushadhi using WHO recommendations and also to promote Kerala Government’s initiative of break the chain campaign. The campaign was launched on 15th March 2020 and it aims to cut down the progress of disease transmission. The efficacy of the batches of sanitizers prepared was tested against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. They were also tested against common air and water contaminants found in the premises which would be of more significance to the general workforce. The susceptibility test was performed by agar well diffusion method and it revealed that the antimicrobial efficacy of the prepared hand sanitizer Batch III with Cymbopogon citratus oil was the most effective among the three combinations. A hedonic sensory evaluation was carried out for better consumer acceptability

    Garden pea (Pisum sativum L. var. hortense) is an important legume vegetable grown for its fresh, shelled green seeds rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. At present over 1000 germplasm lines are available in India. Improvement of garden pea in the country was initiated during the 1940s in IARI and later in several other agricultural universities/ ICAR institutes. Currently, 27 early-varieties and 59 mid-season varieties are under cultivation in india. Initially, focus was on developing early-maturing varieties with high yield and quality. Subsequently, emphasis was laid on developing mid-season varieties having resistance to powdery mildew and other major diseases like Fusarium wilt and rust. Besides, varieties with resistance to bruchids and the leaf miner are also available. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to review current status of improvement of garden pea in India, covering its genetic resources, variability, heritability, genetic advance, heterosis and combining ability, G x E interaction, male sterility, breeding for biotic and abiotic stresses, mutation breeding and biotechnological applications. In recent years, there has been an increase in demand for varieties suited to kharif and early summer seasons, with resistance to powdery mildew, rust, Fusarium root wilt/rot and stemfly and also for processing and export. Therefore, future thrust in the improvement of garden pea would be on developing varieties tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses (mainly high temperature), and also for processing and export

    Soil is a complex and dynamic biological system. We are limited in the determination of microbial mediated reactions because present assays for determining the overall rate of entire metabolic processes (such as respiration) or specific enzyme activities (such as urease, protease and phosphomonoesterase activity) do not allow any identification of the microbial species directly involved in the measured processes. The central problem posed by the link between microbial diversity and soil function is to understand the relations between genetic diversity and community structure and between community structure and function. Soil seems to be characterized by a redundancy of functions; for example, no relationship has been shown to exist between microbial diversity and decomposition of organic matter. Generally, a reduction in any group of species has little effect on overall processes in soil because other microorganisms can take on its function

    PREVALENCE AND ANTIBIOTIC SUSCEPTIBILITY PATTERN OF HIGH LEVEL AMINOGLYCOSIDE RESISTANCE AMONG GRAM POSITIVE ORGANISMS IN A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE

    Objective: The study is done to determine the prevalence and the antimicrobial susceptibility against the gram positive organisms with high level amino glycosides resistance. Methods: This is a prospective study involving the analysis of clinical samples for gram positive organisms like Streptococcus species, Enterococcus species and Staphylococcus species and determining their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. Results: From the collected clinical samples, all the gram positive organisms show resistance to gentamicin. Most of the Staphylococcus species showed a wide resistance to erythromycin followed by ceftrioxazone and many Enterococcus species shows resistance to penicillin, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin. Conclusion: The high level aminoglycoside resistant (HLAR) gram positive organisms showed susceptibility to few drugs that are prevalent in various clinical samples. Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and sensitivity is essential in managing and control of infection

    HYPOMAGNESAEMIA AND HYPOCALCAEMIA THE MAJOR MISSED OUT CLINICAL CONDITION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DIABETES

    Magnesium (Mg) and Calcium (Ca) is one of the essential factors for the insulin to get released from the pancreatic cell. To evaluate the relation of hypomagnesemia and hypocalcaemia in the glycaemic control and to analyse the importance of both Mg and Ca in the insulin secretion mechanism. The study was conducted in the laboratory department, Billroth hospitals. A total of 239 individuals were selected for this study, HbA1c level, serum magnesium and calcium were assessed for all the individuals and in addition to this serum electrolytes were also checked. Out of 239 individuals, 79 were found out as uncontrolled diabetic by calculating HbA1c as a gold standard, males are higher in ratio compared to female. By studying serum magnesium and calcium level, hypocalcaemia is present in more individuals and females (31%) are much prone to both than males (20%). The different correlation was also analysed for hypomagnesemia and hypocalcaemia. The electrolytes like sodium (Na) and potassium (K) was analysed, females are highly affected by electrolyte imbalance but in hypomagnesemia diabetic individuals the males are high in electrolyte imbalance. Since Mg and Ca plays a vital role in insulin synthesis, secretion, repair, and the alteration, along with the hypoglycaemic agents the supplementation of magnesium or calcium could be suggested via, dietary or drug supplements. In addition to this, regular monitoring of electrolytes is essential to maintain fluid balance
