Experimental Study of Electrophoretic Deposited Carbon Nanotubes on Microstrip Transmission Line Resonators and Filters

    Get PDF
The electrical properties of single-walled carbon nanotube electrophoreses deposition on different types of gold-plated microstrip devices are investigated. Simple transmission lines, transmission line resonators and filters were subjected to deposition of functionalized tubes in an aqueous solution. It is found that the process lowers the resonant frequency of the resonators and filters compared to the untreated devices, at the cost of increased insertion loss and reduced resonator Q-factor

How many green jobs are there in electricity generation? A replicable quantification method for developing countries under data constraints

    Get PDF
Assessing the scale of green jobs and the socioeconomic effects of the energy transition is relevant and timely, while clear, comparable methodologies are still scarce. The discussion around just transitions, and the extent to which renewable energy creates more positive socioeconomic impacts than fossil fuels, increasingly attracts policymakers' and researchers' attention. However, data constraints, particularly in developing economies, expose a relevant gap in providing quantitative evidence for such discussions. This is especially relevant in countries with outstanding potential for renewable deployments, such as the case of Brazil. Existing data usually is considerably aggregated into activities irrespectively of technology or Greenhouse gas emission profile, and general international frameworks for such quantification may prove inadequate. In this paper, we propose a replicable data triangulation approach to disaggregate electricity jobs and wages into renewable and non-renewable electricity generation sources applied to the case of Brazil, using national accounts data, energy generation statistics and electricity-source specific employment coefficients from where data is available. One can use the resulting dataset either purely as the current scale of renewable and non-renewable electricity jobs and income or as the database for further modelling projections, particularly macroeconomic, multisectoral models, namely input-output and computable general equilibrium models

LEADERSHIP STYLE, POLICING AND PERCEPTION OF CORRUPTION: A COMPARATIVE PRELIMINARY STUDY WITHIN THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE

    Get PDF
The connection between leadership style, on the one hand, policing and perception of corruption, on the other hand, has received little attention in the literature on leadership theory and organizational processes. Hence, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between transformational leadership and perception of corruption within the police institution, especially in this instance, the Nigeria Police Force. Based on a sampling process of cross sectional approach, the data were collected by administering questionnaires on 156 respondents in Alausa police district in Lagos State. The descriptive result shows that while transformational leadership is practiced in the Nigeria Police Force, the perceived level of corruption remains high. Though in varying degree, the results indicate a positive correlation between the attributes of transformational leadership (charisma, individualized consideration and intellectual stimulation) and the dimensions of corruption. While charisma consistently has a positive influence on the facets of corruption, individualized consideration and charisma influence the dimension of transparency within the police force. In addition, individualized consideration influences the facet of crime. Thus, transformational leadership seems to play an important, but complex role in the reduction of corrupt practices within the police institution. The findings were discussed in the specific contexts of transformational leadership theory, organizational practices and police corruption. The practical implications for organizational development, police reform and crusade against police deviances were also underscored

Disentangling the near infrared continuum spectral components of the inner 500 pc of Mrk 573: two-dimensional maps

We present a near infrared study of the spectral components of the continuum in the inner 500×\times500 pc2^2 of the nearby Seyfert galaxy Mrk573 using adaptive optics near-infrared integral field spectroscopy with the instrument NIFS of the Gemini North Telescope at a spatial resolution of \sim50 pc. We performed spectral synthesis using the {\sc starlight} code and constructed maps for the contributions of different age components of the stellar population: young (age100age\leq100 Myr), young-intermediate (100<age700100<age\leq700 Myr), intermediate-old (700700 Myr 22 Gyr) to the near-IR K-band continuum, as well as their contribution to the total stellar mass. We found that the old stellar population is dominant within the inner 250 pc, while the intermediate age components dominate the continuum at larger distances. A young stellar component contributes up to \sim20% within the inner \sim70 pc, while hot dust emission and featureless continuum components are also necessary to fit the nuclear spectrum, contributing up to 20% of the K-band flux there. The radial distribution of the different age components in the inner kiloparsec of Mrk573 is similar to those obtained by our group for the Seyfert galaxies Mrk1066, Mrk1157 and NGC1068 in previous works using a similar methodology. Young stellar populations (\leq100 Myr) are seen in the inner 200-300 pc for all galaxies contributing with \ge20% of the K-band flux, while the near-IR continuum is dominated by the contribution of intermediate-age stars (t=t=100 Myr-2 Gyr) at larger distances. Older stellar populations dominate in the inner 250 pc
