ELEVEN LEVEL INVERTER DESIGN WITH DVR FOR DISTRIBUTION ENERGY SYSTEM

    Get PDF
In this paper with flexible AC transmission system capability is implemented. The proposed inverter is placed between the wind turbine and the grid, same as a regular WEI, and is able to regulate active and reactive power transferred to the grid. This inverter is equipped with dynamic voltage restorer option in order to control the power factor  of  the local feeder lines. The goal of this project is to introduce new ways to increase the penetration of renewable energy systems into the distribution systems. This will encourage the utilities and customers to act not only as a consumer, but also as a supplier of energy.Â

Sound-Speed Prediction as a Function of Temperature at Discrete Depths in the Bay of Bengal

    Get PDF
Through regression analysis, temperature dependent relationships are developed to predict sound-speed. at discrete depths in the Bay of Bengal, thereby demonstrating the feasibility of sound-speed prediction through polynomial expressions in temperature disregarding salinity variations. A separate regression equation is develbped for the historical sound-speed and temperature data at the standard depths upto 250 m. At specific depths and in the given geographic area in the Bay of Bengal (5-8" N, 90-93" E) polynomials of temperature are proved to be a precise way to predict sound-speed

Efficacy of Modified Task Oriented Exercises Performed on a Swiss Ball Over Conventional Task Oriented Exercise on Improving Balance among Chronic Stroke Patients

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Studies had reported wide variation in the components of physiotherapy treatment provided to stroke patients among different setting. Therapist belief on motor development and prognosis of the condition can influence the selection of treatment techniques in the management of stroke patients .The primary aim of the study was to know the Efficacy of modified task oriented exercises performed on a swiss ball over conventional task oriented exercises on improving balance among chronic stroke patients. METHODS: Rehabilitation clinics across Chennai was chosen for this study in that total of 20 patients was taken .each group assigned 10 and 10 patients. Group 1:10 patients 60 minutes receiving task oriented exercise on swiss ball in sitting, kneeling, qudripod and standing Group 2 : 10 patients, 60 minutes receiving task oriented exercise only in sitting, kneeling, qudripod and standing. Procedure was done with the supervision of chief therapist. RESULTS: Twenty patients were taken for the treatment. In that, The inferential statistical results of Independent ‘ t ’ test for the intergroup comparison of Berg Balance Scale score had shown the ‘ t ’ value of 3.64 ( p-value= 0.01) and intergroup comparison of River mead Mobility Index score had shown the ‘ t ’ value of 3.57 (p-value=0.01) (Table 5). CONCLUSION: From the study it can be concluded that the modified task oriented exercises performed on a swissball was more effective than conventional task oriented exercise performed

Assessment of water quality status in the inland lakes of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India

1280-1285In this study, the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the surface water of various inland lakes situated in Coimbatore have been analysed. The physico-chemical and biological parameters, such as pH, TDS, electrical conductivity, total hardness, chlorides, sulphates, sodium, potassium, BOD, COD, total alkalinity and E. coli concentration were analysed. The water quality of Selvampathy lake has drastically reduced as TDS, total hardness, BOD and COD values are beyond the permissible limit for this lake. This is due to discharge of industrial effluents and dumping of solid wastes. The chloride concentration of all the lakes has increased considerably. The low sulphate concentration in all these lakes indicates that there is no agricultural runoff and animal wastes being dumped into these lakes. The BOD concentration of Ukkadam lake has increased by an order of magnitude within the past three years. Ukkadam and Selvachintamani lake has faecal contamination as the E. coli concentration is beyond the permissible limit. The degradation of the quality of these lakes poses a major threat for the aquatic biota, public health and ground water quality

Ultrasonicated synthesis of some potent antimicrobial aryl sulphonamides

1373-1377Nine N-(2,4-difluorophenyl) substituted benzene sulphonamides have been synthesized by ultrasonication method within short reaction time having more than 90% yield. These sulphonamides have been analyzed by spectral and analytical techniques. The higher yields of sulphonamides have been found to be in case of ultrasonication process as compared to microwave and conventional heating methods. The antimicrobial activities of these sulphonamides have been evaluated using Bauer-Kirby disc diffusion method by means of measurement of mm of zone of inhibition

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Insulin deficiency is the prime basis of all diabetic manifestations and agents that can bring about insulin secretion would be of pivotal significance for cure of diabetes. To test this hypothesis, we carried out bioactivity guided fractionation of <it>Oreocnide integrifolia </it>(Urticaceae); a folklore plant consumed for ameliorating diabetic symptoms using experimental models.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We carried out bioassay guided fractionation using RINmF and C2C12 cell line for glucose stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) and glucose uptake potential of fractions. Further, the bioactive fraction was challenged for its GSIS in cultured mouse islets with basal (4.5 mM) and stimulated (16.7 mM) levels of glucose concentrations. The Flavonoid rich fraction (FRF) was exposed to 2 mM streptozotocin stress and the anti-ROS/RNS potential was evaluated. Additionally, the bioactive fraction was assessed for its antidiabetic and anti-apoptotic property <it>in-vivo </it>using multidose streptozotocin induced diabetes in BALB/c mice.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The results suggested FRF to be the most active fraction as assessed by GSIS in RINm5F cells and its ability for glucose uptake in C2C12 cells. FRF displayed significant potential in terms of increasing intracellular calcium and cAMP levels even in presence of a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, IBMX in cultured pancreatic islets. FRF depicted a dose-dependent reversal of all the cytotoxic manifestations except peroxynitrite and NO formation when subjected <it>in-vitro </it>along with STZ. Further scrutinization of FRF for its <it>in-vivo </it>antidiabetic property demonstrated improved glycemic indices and decreased pancreatic β-cell apoptosis.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Overall, the flavonoid mixture has shown to have significant insulin secretogogue, insulinomimetic and cytoprotective effects and can be evaluated for clinical trials as a therapeutant in the management of diabetic manifestations.</p

The marine actinomycete genus Salinispora: a model organism for secondary metabolite discovery

This review covers the initial discovery of the marine actinomycete genus Salinispora through its development as a model for natural product research. A focus is placed on the novel chemical structures reported with reference to their biological activities and the synthetic and biosynthetic studies they have inspired. The time line of discoveries progresses from more traditional bioassay-guided approaches through the application of genome mining and genetic engineering techniques that target the products of specific biosynthetic gene clusters. This overview exemplifies the extraordinary biosynthetic diversity that can emanate from a narrowly defined genus and supports future efforts to explore marine taxa in the search for novel natural products
