Resonant Hybrid Flyback, a New Topology for High Density Power Adaptors

    Get PDF
In this article, an innovative power adaptor based on the asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) flyback topology will be presented. Its benefits compared to other state-of-the-art topologies, such as the active clamp flyback, are analyzed in detail. It will also describe the control methods to achieve high efficiency and power density using zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and zero-current switching (ZCS) techniques over the full range of the input voltage and the output load, providing comprehensive guidelines for the practical design. Finally, we demonstrate the convenience of the proposed design methods with a 65 W adaptor prototype achieving a peak efficiency of close to 95% and a minimum efficiency of 93.4% at full load over the range of the input voltage, as well as a world-class power density of 22 W/inch3 cased. This research is financed by Infineon Tecnologias AG

Heart Rate Variability Monitoring during a Padel Match

    Get PDF
Padel, an increasingly popular sport, presents some associated cardiovascular risks, which can be prevented by heart rate variability (HRV) monitoring. However, there is no study worldwide that characterizes HRV during padel games. Therefore, this study aims to monitor HRV responses and characterize them using linear and non-linear metrics at three timepoints: at baseline, during a game, and during recovery. Twenty-seven amateur participants had their HRV monitored before, during, and after a 90 min padel game. We extracted time, frequency, and non-linear measures with MATLAB for baseline, rest period, and at three periods of 5 min during the game. The differences in measures were assessed through an ANOVA. The autonomic modulation was affected by the padel match in amateur players. In this regard, the root mean square of successive differences between normal heartbeats (RMSsd), Poincaré plot (perpendicular standard deviation (SD1) and horizontal standard deviation (SD2)), sample entropy (SampEn), low frequencies (LF), and very low frequencies (VLF) were significantly reduced during the game, whereas alpha-2, high frequencies (HF), and the ratio between low and high frequencies (LF/HF) increased during the game. Furthermore, an abrupt change was found in the autonomic modulation between game and recovery assessments, which suggests the need to rethink the practices of cool-down protocols. The multiple timepoints analyzed during this study allow us to investigate the evolution of different HRV measures in the time, frequency, and non-linear domains, clarifying the interpretation of the variables, especially the less-investigated ones such as the non-linear measures

Rede CEDES/Ministério do Esport

Critical Theory and Intellectual History in José Sazbón

    Get PDF
The theoretical-political intervention of José Sazbón (1937-2008) can be understood as an effort to connect intellectual history and critical theory. On one hand, it offers an intellectual history of critical theory that seeks to make obvious the historical conditions of its possibilities and difficulties. On the other hand, it proposes a critical theory of historiography that demands from the latter a normative political orientation in which the meaning of its labor is anchored. In their systematic correlation, both orientations flow together to formulate a broad and still timely program of critical history for Western Marxism.Fil: Garcia Garcia, Luis Ignacio. Birds at Laurie Island, South Orkney Islands, Antarctica: Breeding species and their distribution

    Get PDF
Bird communities of the ice-free areas of Laurie Island were surveyed during the breeding seasons of 1993/94 and 1994/95. Additional censuses of penguin colonies were made during the 2004/05 season. Twenty-nine seabird species were recorded, of which 15 were breeding. Adélie Penguins Pygoscelis adeliae bred at six localities, primarily on the south coast. This survey showed that the population of Adélie Penguins in the 2004/05 season was 32.3% lower than that found a previous study conducted during the 1983/84 season. Chinstrap Penguins Pygoscelis antarctica are the most numerous pygoscelid penguins in the area. Previous studies showed they had increased between 1948 and 1983 at many colonies. Since then, there was a slight increase in the population between 1983/84 and 1994/95 (from 141 950 to 143 792 breeding pairs, +1.3%). However, populations of Chinstrap Penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula showed different trends in the late 1980s. Because the censuses available from Laurie Island after 1994/95 season were incomplete, it is not possible to draw any conclusions about Chinstrap Penguin population trends. Population size and distribution of several other species breeding in the area are updated, and possible factors affecting short-term changes are discussed.Fil: Coria, Néstor Rubén.
