Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation for Solid Tumors: Which Way Forward?

    Get PDF
AbstractThe patients presenting with metastatic solid tumors remains with poor prognosis. Despite advances in treatment and better understanding of the biological pathway during the past two decades, outcome remains often very poor. On the other hand, allogeneic stem cell transplantation has been established as a potent antitumoral immunotherapy in various hematological malignancies. Preliminary results confirm that graft versus tumor effect does exist. The main challenge is now to transform this biological and clinical effect into a real clinical benefit in term of curability and survival

Background: With regard to sexual and reproductive health policies, the young are usually a target population. In fact, reproductive behaviours of young people often constitute a matter of public health concern, as their well-being is hampered by early and unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions along with complications, HIV/AIDS. Objective: This study aims at providing a better insight into reproductive behaviours of two groups of women (15-24 years and 25-34 years) in Bafia, and to link them with their cultural, economic, and socio-demographics characteristics. Results: The analyses performed show that women aged 15-24 years enter prematurely the sexual and fertile life more than those aged 25-34 years. For those who are still singles, the mean age at first pregnancy is 17,7 years for women aged 15-24 years versus 20,1years for those aged 25-34 years. And as for married women, the mean age at first pregnancy is respectively of 17,6years versus 19,4 years. However, women aged 15-24 years get married more lately than those aged 25-34 years. Conclusion: Although the level of knowledge of the contraceptive methods of women aged 25-34 years is too high than those aged 15-24 years, it appears that the older age-class (25-34 years) resort less to contraceptive methods than the younger old-class (15-24 years), whatever their matrimonial status. However, the standard of life and level of education act in an indisputable on those indicators

This paper reports the findings of a survey on assessment of degradations/defects and maintenance of administrative primary and secondary school buildings of the city of Bafoussam, Cameroon. Data were collected with the use of structured questionnaires as shown in appendix II administered on various managers of public primary and secondary schools in the three districts of Bafoussam namely, Bafoussam I, Bafoussam II and Bafoussam III. Data were analysed with basic descriptive tools such as percentage. The results showed that the primary schools buildings in the city of Bafoussam are more degraded than those of secondary schools as an example 98% of primary school buildings in the city of Bafoussam show an aging of the paint on the walls, i.e. 127 buildings, while those of secondary school buildings show 86% i.e. 157 buildings. 85% of primary school buildings in the city of Bafoussam have a ceiling in poor condition i.e. 111 buildings, while those of secondary schools buildings have 76% i.e. 132 buildings. The secondary school buildings in the city of Bafoussam have undergone more maintenance works than those of primary schools. Background: Some published studies on the patient’s activity before the stroke occurrence indicate that thereis an increased risk of the onset of acute stroke during these activities. In our community, these data are not yet assessed. The purpose of this pilot study was to examine whether intracerebral hemorrhage may be linked to patient’s physical activity before the onset and to carry out any relationship with location of the hemorrhage. Methods: The patient’s activity before the onset of stroke and location of hemorrhage in 58 patients (40 men and 18 women, aged 39 to 81years) admitted with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage seen by CT in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, from 2012 to 2015, were recorded and analyzed using logistic regression models. Results: In 31% of the case, the onset developed after emotional factors, in 24% in the lavatory, in 15% during housework and in 12% during sexual activity (X-squared = 8.319, p-value = 0.081). There was no significant difference between those activities and the site of intracerebral hemorrhage (p?0.05).Conclusion: Most patients in this series seemed to be stricken by the hemorrhagic stroke during some physical activity. It is less certain that location of intracerebral hemorrhage was linked with these activities

Real-time identification of the current density profile in the JET Tokamak: method and validation

International audienceThe real-time reconstruction of the plasma magnetic equilibrium in a Tokamak is a key point to access high performance regimes. Indeed, the shape of the plasma current density profile is a direct output of the reconstruction and has a leading effect for reaching a steady-state high performance regime of operation. In this paper we present the methodology followed to identify numerically the plasma current density in a Tokamak and its equilibrium. In order to meet the real-time requirements a C++ software has been developed using the combination of a finite element method, a nonlinear fixed point algorithm associated to a least square optimization procedure. The experimental measurements that enable the identification are the magnetics on the vacuum vessel, the interferometric and polarimetric measurements on several chords and the motional Stark effect. Details are given about the validation of the reconstruction on the JET tokamak, either by comparison with 'off-line' equilibrium codes or real time software computing global quantities

Buildings are responsible for a major share of energy use and have accordingly been a special target in the global actions for climate change mitigation, with measures that aim at improving their energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and increase renewable energy use. IEA-EBC project «Cost-Effective Energy and Carbon Emissions Optimization in Building Renovation» intends to develop a calculation basis for future standards, which aim at maximum effects on reducing carbon emissions and primary energy use. Thereby, the project pays special attention to the renovation of existing residential buildings and to cost effective building renovatio

"Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme, March 2017"Buildings are responsible for a major share of energy use and have been a special target in the global actions for climate change mitigation, with measures that aim at improving their energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and increase renewable energy use. The IEA-EBC Annex 56 project «Cost-Effective Energy and Carbon Emissions Optimization in Building Renovation» intends to develop the basics for future standards, which aim at maximizing effects on reducing carbon emissions and primary energy use while taking into account the cost-effectiveness of related measures. The IEA EBC Annex 56 project pays special attention to cost effective energy related renovation of existing residential buildings and low-tech office buildings (without air conditioning systems).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
