A grid of Synthetic Spectra for Hot DA White Dwarfs and Its Application in Stellar Population Synthesis
In this work we present a grid of LTE and non-LTE synthetic spectra of hot DA
white dwarfs (WDs). In addition to its usefulness for the determination of
fundamental stellar parameters of isolated WDs and in binaries, this grid will
be of interest for the construction of theoretical libraries for stellar
studies from integrated light. The spectral grid covers both a wide temperature
and gravity range, with 17,000 K <= T_eff <= 100,000 K and 7.0 <= log(g) <=
9.5. The stellar models are built for pure hydrogen and the spectra cover a
wavelength range from 900 A to 2.5 microns. Additionally, we derive synthetic
HST/ACS, HST/WFC3, Bessel UBVRI and SDSS magnitudes. The grid was also used to
model integrated spectral energy distributions of simple stellar populations
and our modeling suggests that DAs might be detectable in ultraviolet bands for

Emission Line Flickering from the Secondary Star in Cataclysmic Variables? A study of V3885 Sagitarii
Spectrophotometric observations of H-alpha and He I 6678 emission lines of
the nova-like Cataclysmic Variable V3885 Sgr are presented and analyzed. The
binary orbital period was determined as P = 0.20716071(22) days. Doppler
Tomography was performed with both H-alpha and He I lines. Disc radial
emissivity profiles were also computed. The tomography mapping of flickering
sources was performed using the H-alpha line, from which we concluded that the
flickering is not uniformly distributed on the disc. The observed tomogram of
the flickering was compared with simulations, suggesting that the most intense
flickering source in the H-alpha is not located in the accretion disc. It is
proposed that the main line flickering source may be associated with the

A map of OMC-1 in CO 9-8
The distribution of 12C16O J=9-8 (1.037 THz) emission has been mapped in
OMC-1 at 35 points with 84" resolution. This is the first map of this source in
this transition and only the second velocity-resolved ground-based observation
of a line in the terahertz frequency band. There is emission present at all
points in the map, a region roughly 4' by 6' in size, with peak antenna
temperature dropping only near the edges. Away from the Orion KL outflow, the
velocity structure suggests that most of the emission comes from the OMC-1
photon-dominated region, with a typical linewidthof 3-6 km/s. Large velocity
gradient modeling of the emission in J=9-8 and six lower transitions suggests
that the lines originate in regions with temperatures around 120 K and
densities of at least 10^(3.5) cm^(-3) near theta^(1) C Ori and at the Orion
Bar, and from 70 K gas at around 10^(4) cm^(-3) southeast and west of the bar.
These observations are among the first made with the 0.8 m Smithsonian
Astrophysical Observatory Receiver Lab Telescope, a new instrument designed to
observe at frequencies above 1 THz from an extremely high and dry site in

The structure of a recent nova shell as observed by ALMA
High resolution ALMA observations of the recent (2.52 yr old) shell of Nova V5668 Sgr (2015) show a highly structured ionized gas distribution with small (10^15 cm) clumps. These are the smallest structures ever observed in the remnant of a stellar thermonuclear explosion. No extended contiguous emission could be found above the 2.5σ level in our data, while the peak hydrogen densities in the clumps reach 10^6 cm^−3. The millimetre continuum image suggests that large scale structures previously distinguished in other recent nova shells may result from the distribution of bright unresolved condensations.publishe
Heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate susceptibility in a community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus epidemic clone, in a case of Infective Endocarditis in Argentina
BACKGROUND: Community-Associated Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) has traditionally been related to skin and soft tissue infections in healthy young patients. However, it has now emerged as responsible for severe infections worldwide, for which vancomycin is one of the mainstays of treatment. Infective endocarditis (IE) due to CA-MRSA with heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate susceptibility-(h-VISA) has been recently reported, associated to an epidemic USA 300 CA-MRSA clone. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the occurrence of h-VISA phenotype in a case of IE caused by a strain belonging to an epidemic CA-MRSA clone, distinct from USA300, for the first time in Argentina. The isolate h-VISA (SaB2) was recovered from a patient with persistent bacteraemia after a 7-day therapy with vancomycin, which evolved to fatal case of IE complicated with brain abscesses. The initial isolate-(SaB1) was fully vancomycin susceptible (VSSA). Although MRSA SaB2 was vancomycin susceptible (≤ 2 μg/ml) by MIC (agar and broth dilution, E-test and VITEK 2), a slight increase of MIC values between SaB1 and SaB2 isolates was detected by the four MIC methods, particularly for teicoplanin. Moreover, Sab2 was classified as h-VISA by three different screening methods [MHA5T-screening agar, Macromethod-E-test-(MET) and by GRD E-test] and confirmed by population analysis profile-(PAP). In addition, a significant increase in cell-wall thickness was revealed for SaB2 by electron microscopy. Molecular typing showed that both strains, SaB1 and SaB2, belonged to ST5 lineage, carried SCCmecIV, lacked Panton-Valentine leukocidin-(PVL) genes and had indistinguishable PFGE patterns (subtype I2), thereby confirming their isogenic nature. In addition, they were clonally related to the epidemic CA-MRSA clone (pulsotype I) detected in our country.
