Effect of Flow Phonation Voice Exercises on Vocal and Aerodynamic Measures in Undergraduate Student Singers

    Get PDF
This study examined the effects of Flow Phonation Voice Exercises on vocal measures in undergraduate student singers. Whereas these exercises have provided positive outcomes in individuals with vocal hyperfunction, the use of these exercises in potentially enhancing the singing voice has not been explored. A total of 10 participants were randomly assigned into an experimental group (n = 6), that received 5 sessions of the Flow Phonation Voice Exercises across 5 weeks, and a control group (n = 4) which did not receive the treatment. Changes in auditory-perceptual, acoustic, subjective respiratory, quality-of-life and fatigue related measures compared across two groups. Results indicate statistically significant differences in Singing Voice Handicap Index and perceptual singing voice quality and a positive trend toward improvement in Vocal Fatigue Index in the experimental group alone. The results suggest positive outcomes of the use of these exercises. Small sample size and COVID-19 related methodological constraints should be considered while interpreting these results

    Minimal Supergravity with R-Parity Breaking

We show that the minimal R-parity breaking model characterized by an effective bilinear violation of R-parity in the superpotential is consistent with minimal N=1 supergravity unification with radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry and universal scalar and gaugino masses. This one-parameter extension of the MSSM-SUGRA model provides therefore the simplest reference model for the breaking of R-parity and constitutes a consistent truncation of the complete dynamical models with spontaneous R-parity breaking proposed previously. We comment on the lowest-lying CP-even Higgs boson mass and discuss its minimal N=1 supergravity limit, determine the ranges of tanβ\tan\beta and bottom quark Yukawa couplings allowed in the model, as well as the relation between the tau neutrino mass and the bilinear R-parity violating parameter.Comment: 22 pages including 4 figures, Latex. Use of liraglutide in the patient with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus: a literature review

    Get PDF
Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus represent two of the most pressing public health challenges globally. In recent decades, an alarming increase in the prevalence of both conditions has been observed, which has led to a significant increase in the burden of disease and an increased search for effective therapeutic strategies. As evidence accumulates on the efficacy and safety of Liraglutide in this patient population, a comprehensive review of the available scientific literature is necessary. The objective of this literature review is to analyze and synthesize relevant studies investigating the use of liraglutide in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, in order to provide a comprehensive view on its effectiveness, indications, complications and management. In conclusion, the use of liraglutide in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus has been shown to be an effective therapeutic option to improve glycemic control, promote weight loss and reduce cardiovascular risk. This drug, as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, stimulates insulin secretion, suppresses excessive glucagon release and delays gastric emptying, which contributes to the improvement in glycemic control

Accumulation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in navigation channels, harbors and industrial areas of the Bahia Blanca Estuary, Argentina

The usage and production of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was banned in Argentina in 2002, approximately twenty to thirty years later than in other countries. A total of 29 sediment samples (up to 14 m deep) were analyzed for a mix of seven individual PCBs in a time series for over more than one year in twelve selected locations, including harbors, recreational docks and several industrialized coastal locations in Bahia Blanca Estuary, Argentina, South America. The GC/ECD results showed the dominance of three chlorinated compounds: CB180, CB52 and CB101, which showed a strong reduction with distance from the urban area. The principal components analysis differentiates light and heavy congeners variation, settling several hypotheses and the classification of sampling sites to determine the PCB burden. Considering literature reports, the present results were evaluated in the international PCB context, diminishing the scarcity of PCB data from the Southern Hemisphere and prompting the need of future monitoring approaches.Fil: Arias, Andres Hugo. (Eng) This paper presents a new methodology for the correct design of transformers used in power multilevel inverters common source type. The proposed methodology represents a solution to the problems of distortion in the waveform, voltage drop and loss of efficiency caused by the miscalculation of the transformer using conventional methodology. To validate the methodology two prototypes under different perspectives were built, conventional and proposed, in order to verify the results, which support the solution to the problems described and shown an improvement in performance of the power converter.(Spa) En este trabajo se presenta una nueva metodología para el correcto diseño de transformadores utilizados en inversores de potencia multinivel tipo fuente común.

A new species of Hyphessobrycon (Characiformes, Characidae) from the Esteros del Iberá wetlands, Argentina

Hyphessobrycon auca sp. n. is described from the Esteros del Iberá wetlands. Hyphessobrycon auca differs from the remaining species of the genus by the presence of one maxillary tooth with 5 cusps; dentary low with teeth decreasing in size anteroposteriorly; males with hooks in all fins; mature females with hooks on pelvic-fin rays; one humeral spot vertically elongated, bounded by a light area; a second lateral spot may be faint or well developed; a wide lateral band ending in a conspicuous caudal spot.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

Immunization with surface immunogenic protein induces a decrease of vaginal colonization by group B Streptococcus in an experimental mouse model

The Group B streptococcus (GBS) is the leading cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis in developed countries and an emerging pathogen in adults. A neonatal infection occurs predominantly during the delivery by either inhalation or ingestion of contaminated secretions of the mother’s vagina. Maternal screening by rectovaginal GBS colonization at 35–37 weeks of gestation, with subsequent intra-partum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP) at the onset of labor, is implemented in some countries to prevent newborn invasive by GBS. Currently, there are not vaccines to prevent the devastating consequences of GBS and a glycoconjugate vaccine is under clinical experimentation (Clinical Trials Phase III). The Surface Immunological Protein (SIP) of GBS is highly immunogenic and conserved between different serotypes of this bacterium. The SIP had been described to induce antibodies type IgG that induces protective immunity in animal model challenged intraperitoneally with GBS. Here we describe the immunization with SIP mixed with an AbISCO-100 adjuvant in mice model challenged to GBS vaginal infection. The vaccine has demonstrated to decrease the GBS colonization in infected mouse. The SIP immunization has also increased the circulating IgA, IgG and IgG2a levels against SIP and antigen-specific circulating levels of IFN- ƴ and IL–2. Moreover, transfer of serum and T cells from a vaccinated animal into a non-immunized animal induced immune protection to the animals from challenged GBS colonization of the vaginal tract. In conclusion, we have demonstrated that a simple and effective vaccine is able to prevent GBS colonization, where cellular immunity plays an important role. To our knowledge, is the first report the SIP-based vaccine reduces the vaginal GBS colonization in an animal model
