    Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

    Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.     The proposal of theoretical debate implies a confrontation through the concept of memorial patchwork. The idea of palimpsest re-readings establishes an essayistic challenge to rummage the invisible footprints of its Judaic origin. In this case, at the beginning of the quest for the relics of the past, writing launches into the abyss, submitting to the risk of creating sensations and images able to merge present and past. The article retakes a Márcio Souza’s essay, “A verdadeira nação de Rafael Bentes”, known Amazonian author, where under the focus of his rendezvous in the Sephardic Judaism, attempts to evoke conditions for a pathway, not only to describe it properly, but to provide a testimony of reestablishment under the Benjaminian orientation, that shed light to the dynamics of creation from sensible to its historical and memorial discourse.As animações cinematográficas, para além do entretenimento, fazem parte de um universo cultural de formação dos sujeitos, permeando o imaginário de representações humanas nas relações sociais. Compostas por músicas marcantes e personagens emblemáticos, as animações da Disney podem se tornar caminhos para uma pedagogia do imaginário, visto que essa tecnologia do imaginário põe em evidência temas sociais caros à formação de jovens e crianças. Nesse sentido, analisando as tecnologias do imaginário e os arquétipos femininos que moldam a personagem Mulan, no filme homônimo (MULAN, 1998), buscou-se averiguar temas inspiradores para a pedagogia do imaginário infantojuvenil. Nesse intuito, por meio de um estudo bibliográfico de análise arquetípica, à luz da modalidade imaginário educacional, percebe-se que o papel feminino é atuante em todo o filme. Isso porque as atitudes de Mulan surpreendem e contrariam um conjunto de crenças marcadas pela tradição de uma sociedade patriarcal

    Production and Characterization of a β-Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex with <i>Platonia insignis</i> Seed Extract as a Proposal for a Gastroprotective System

    Platonia insignis Mart, Clusiaceae, known as bacuri, is a species native to Brazil that, in studies with extract of the seed of its fruit, showed antioxidant activity against free radicals. Products with such properties may be of great importance in the treatment of peptic ulcers since this pathology may be associated with the inflammatory process caused by the action of free radicals. Cyclodextrins are molecules capable of forming inclusion complexes with other molecules, affecting their physicochemical properties and improving their pharmacokinetic characteristics. Thus, this work aimed to produce, characterize, and evaluate the gastroprotective effect of the inclusion complex of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) with the bacuri seeds hexanic extract (BSHE). In the characterization of the inclusion complex, an apparent stability constant (Kc) of 416 mol/L was obtained in the solubility study; the BSHE:β-CD m/m (g) complexation ratios at 1:9, 2:8, and 3:7 were 5.51%, 21.46%, and 20.11%, respectively. The formation of the BSHE:β-CD inclusion complex was observed by FTIR technique, indicating the disappearance of bands characteristic of BSHE (2960 cm−1 and 1755 cm−1) when in the complex, compared to the spectra of pure BSHE or in physical mixture with β-CD, and by X-ray diffraction, which indicated a loss of crystallinity, typical signals of pure β-CD, and presentation of intense amorphization, characteristic of BSHE, incorporated in the β-CD pockets. In the evaluation of gastroprotective activity, through absolute ethanol-induced gastric lesions in mice, both BSHE and BSHE:β-CD reduced gastric lesions, with 100 mg/kg dose of the complex having the greatest gastroprotective effect. BSHE:β-CD was also able to reduce gastric lesions from ischemia and reperfusion, with the 50 mg/kg dose being the most effective. BSHE:β-CD, also at this dose, reduced the MDA levels of the gastric mucosa, indicating a possible antioxidant activity in its gastroprotective effect. Thus, it was concluded that inclusion complex formation between β-CD and BSHE is possible, and that this formulation enhanced the gastric protective activity
