    Get PDF
Hippophae salicifolia (Seabuckthorn) is one of the potential multipurpose underutilised plant species having huge multipurpose benefits including economic and ecological. Effect of different concentrated doses of auxins, on rooting percentage, number of root per rooted cuttings and root length of male and female stem cuttings was examined under open field condition. Results show that the cuttings pretreated with 50 mg L-1 indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) had best rooting traits (respectively for male and female rooting percentage was 50.00 and 76.67%, root number was 2.3 and 3.0 and root length per rooted cuttings was 2.5 and 3.5 cm). Therefore, cuttings pre-treated with 50 mg L-1 IBA is recommended for vegetative propagation through cuttings in H. salicifolia. Moreover, this study provides a significant lead towards the development of a simple cost-effective propagation technique for large scale cultivation and future domestication of the elite genotype for better nutritional security along with socio-economic upliftment and sustainable rural development in Indian Himalayan Region.Key words: Seabuckthorn, vegetative propagation, dioecious plant

Non-Precious Material Jewelry Objects as Catharsis for Urban Socialite Women

    Get PDF
Urban socialite women are not only associated with the use of precious material jewelry but also exhibit a trend in the use of non-precious material jewelry. This research aims to analyze the utilization of non-precious material jewelry objects among a subset of urban women in Jakarta and its correlation with catharsis as a mechanism for emotional release and self-purification within the urban context. Employing a qualitative approach and case studies, this study utilizes the catharsis theory to analyze in-depth interview data from four informants who are urban socialite women with a penchant for collecting non-precious material jewelry. The research findings indicate that the motivations behind the usage of non-precious material jewelry are linked to economic support for local artisans, environmental consciousness, social status, belonging, and personal sentimental value. However, from a cathartic perspective, these motivations can be viewed as endeavors to seek consolation or escapism for urban women who consistently grapple with the challenges of adapting to perpetual change and self-reinvention. Narsisme Perempuan Urban melalui Simulakra Perhiasan di Media Sosial sebagai Bentuk Endorsement

    Get PDF

Overcoming Health Risk of Down Syndrome Child with Obesity: Systematic Review

    Get PDF
Down syndrome (DS) is a condition that occurs due to an abnormal number of chromosomes which is characterized by the presence of an additional chromosome. A child diagnosed with DS has three distinctive characters, namely having a low Intelligence Quotient (IQ), physical and mental limitations and having a weak immune system. Overweight and obesity are nutritional problems that often occur in people with DS, so it is necessary to study how the health risks that can be experienced by DS sufferers with obesity and how to overcome or minimize these risks. This Systematic Review study was conducted using the PubMed/Medline, Science Direct, and Google Scholar search databases. The search was limited to articles in peer-reviewed journals and literature reviews, which were written in English and Indonesian between 2012 and 2022. The study results showed that >40% of obesity occurred in children with DS. Obesity in people with DS can increase the risk of other health problems such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in adults with DS. In addition, dyslipidemia, hyperinsulinemia, NAFLD, Alzheimer's and tumors, and coronary heart disease are frequently reported in obese DS. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent nutritional problems by parents which includes parenting, feeding practices, and eating patterns. In addition, physical activity is needed for children with DS, especially for those who suffer from obesity. Fulfillment of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle throughout pregnancy is also needed to ensure the health of the child born and reduce the risk of having a baby with DS.

India possesses several advantages due to its varied ecological range and agro-climates to cultivate several important and diverse commercial food commodities ranging from cereals, fruits and spices to medicinal plants. The country has abundance of human resource comprising skilled, educated, technical and scientific manpower on one hand and unskilled manpower on the other. Forests- and agriculture-based industries are a major source of employment in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors all over the country. This article has presented a brief overview of the potential of forest and agriculture in generating employment, providing livelihood and environmental services, sequestration of green house gases, carbon trading, rehabilitation of degraded lands, production of fuel wood, etc. There are clear linkages and synergies between agricultural production and sustainable forest management. If the sustainability of the agriculture and forests can be assured, food security and employment generation would go in long-term perpetuity.Community/Rural/Urban Development, Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

    Proposal for Energy Social Responsibility

    Get PDF
The paper significantly works upon, how as per the newly implemented mandate under ‘The Companies Act, 2013’ organizations in India having turnover >100 cr &>200 cr (PAN India) or having net profit of at least 5 Crore have to spend 2 percent of their profit as part of CSR Corporate Social Responsibility to carry a philanthropic activity. As a social responsibility towards environment sustainability, India needs to change to renewable sources of energy which are non-polluting which will also support increasing demand for power and electricity. For economic as well as environmental rationales, this paper tries to recommend ESR (Energy Sustainability Responsibility) that can be accumulated through monetary support by all of the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange) companies that in contrast can be accommodated on the research and development as well as infrastructural development of non-conventional and renewable sources of energy. The proposal can support India as well as countries across time zones to save fossil fuel reserves for future and create sustainability of these reserves. For the same objective the paper is addressing the applicability of ESR for setting up projects for renewable source of energy and cost involved in setting up of these projects vis-a-vis the efficient use of funds accumulated by the target companies by way of ESR: Energy Social Responsibility. The research design used is both descriptive and exploratory

Pulmonary arterial remodeling revealed by microfocal x-ray tomography

    Get PDF
Animal models and micro-CT imaging are useful for understanding the functional consequences of, and identifying the genes involved in, the remodeling of vascular structures that accompanies pulmonary vascular disease. Using a micro-CT scanner to image contrast-enhanced arteries in excised lungs from fawn hooded rats (a strain genetically susceptible to hypoxia induced pulmonary hypertension), we found that portions of the pulmonary arterial tree downstream from a given diameter were morphometrically indistinguishable. This \u27self-consistency\u27 property provided a means for summarizing the pulmonary arterial tree architecture and mechanical properties using a parameter vector obtained from measurements of the contiguous set of vessel segments comprising the longest (principal) pathway and its branches over a range of vascular pressures. This parameter vector was used to characterize the pulmonary vascular remodeling that occurred in rats exposed to a hypoxic (11.5% oxygen) environment and provided the input to a hemodynamic model relating structure to function. The major effect of the remodeling was a longitudinally (pulmonary artery to arterioles) uniform decrease in vessel distensibility that resulted in a 90% increase in arterial resistance. Despite the almost uniform change in vessel distensibility, over 50% of the resistance increase was attributable to vessels with unstressed diameters less than 125 microns

Comparative analysis of changes in leaf area index in different wheat genotypes exposed to high temperature stress by late sown condition

High temperature stress during grain-filling period is one of the major environmental constraints limiting the grain yield of wheat in India. Crop growth response and relative performance of yield components of 12 wheat (Triticum aestivum) genotypes were studied in two date of sowing in crop research center (Pantnagar) to identify the causes of yield reduction in wheat particularly Leaf Area Index and its impact in yield loss and other tolerance mech-anism and comparative study of LAI and yield attributes to identify the genotype for high temperature tolerance in late sown condition. The higher temperature enhanced plant growth, flowering, and maturation which ultimately effects the crop performance in case of yield (Leaf Area Index, grain weight/spike and test weight were drastically reduced in time under high temperature. Out of 12 diverse genotypes namely HI 1539, DBW 14, HW 5021, HS 240, PBW-574, Raj 4101, Lok 54, Raj 3765, WH 1021, K-0-307, HW 2045 and HI1544,four were (Lok54, Raj3765, HI1539 and HI1544 ) were characterized as high temperature tolerant based on their relative performance in leaf area index, grain yield and heat susceptibility index. Leaf area Index studies in context to heat stress in wheat is least studied area in heat tolerance research in wheat (Triticum aestivum), in the present study LAI is used as a screening tool for heat tolerance and effect of LAI in wheat yield
