Vanishing Minors in the Neutrino Mass Matrix from Abelian Gauge Symmetries
Augmenting the Standard Model by three right-handed neutrinos allows for an
anomaly-free gauge group extension G_max = U(1)_(B-L) x U(1)_(L_e-L_mu) x
U(1)_(L_mu-L_tau). While simple U(1) subgroups of G_max have already been
discussed in the context of approximate flavor symmetries, we show how two-zero
textures in the right-handed neutrino Majorana mass matrix can be enforced by
the flavor symmetry, which is spontaneously broken very economically by singlet
scalars. These zeros lead to two vanishing minors in the low-energy neutrino
mass matrix after the seesaw mechanism. This study may provide a new testing
ground for a zero-texture approach: the different classes of two-zero textures
with almost identical neutrino oscillation phenomenology can in principle be
distinguished by their different Z' interactions at colliders.Comment: 12 pages; Extended and clarified discussion; comments on finetuning

Non-standard interactions versus non-unitary lepton flavor mixing at a neutrino factory
The impact of heavy mediators on neutrino oscillations is typically described
by non-standard four-fermion interactions (NSIs) or non-unitarity (NU). We
focus on leptonic dimension-six effective operators which do not produce
charged lepton flavor violation. These operators lead to particular
correlations among neutrino production, propagation, and detection non-standard
effects. We point out that these NSIs and NU phenomenologically lead, in fact,
to very similar effects for a neutrino factory, for completely different
fundamental reasons. We discuss how the parameters and probabilities are
related in this case, and compare the sensitivities. We demonstrate that the
NSIs and NU can, in principle, be distinguished for large enough effects at the
example of non-standard effects in the --sector, which basically
corresponds to differentiating between scalars and fermions as heavy mediators
as leading order effect. However, we find that a near detector at superbeams
could provide very synergistic information, since the correlation between
source and matter NSIs is broken for hadronic neutrino production, while NU is
a fundamental effect present at any experiment.Comment: 32 pages, 5 figures. Final version published in JHEP. v3: Typo in Eq.

A study on the financial feasibility of compliant ship recycling yards in Bangladesh
\ua9 2023 ANAME Publication.Ship recycling is one of the most promising industries for Bangladesh. A significant amount of local steel demand is fulfilled by scrap metals from ship recycling yards. Bangladesh has been maintaining a competitive position in the ship recycling sector along with China, India, and Pakistan. But, in the absence of substantial workplace safety and infrastructure development and for not following international regulations, Bangladesh may lose its market share to other countries in this sector. This paper presents a financial analysis to establish compliant ship recycling facilities that will fulfill the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) requirements. This analysis has considered all the facilities of a compliant ship-recycling yard, including impermeable floors, mechanized systems, oily water separators, firefighting systems, and other special features. The worthiness, scalability, and sustainability of investing in the development of compliant ship recycling facilities have been assessed from Bangladesh’s perspective and the benefits over the conventional ones have been discussed. Also, the challenges for ship recyclers and their prevalent perspective toward establishing compliant ship recycling facilities have been depicted. Lastly, recommendations have been suggested to assist the ship recyclers in Bangladesh by encouraging them to invest and enable HKC-compliant ship recycling to harness long-term economic rewards
To Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Del Nido Cardioplegia In Adult Cardiac Surgery At A Tertiary Care Centre
el Nido cardioplegia has emerged as a promising myocardial protector in adult open heart surgeries after it\u27s initial success in Paediatric open heart surgeries, specially in immature myocardiums. To conclude, del Nido as an effective cardioplegic agent among the adult open heart surgeries one must compare it\u27s advantages and disadvantages with other cardioplegic agents.
Methodology
This is a retrospective study where about 200 patients were studied who were adults with first time CABG, Valve Surgery, interventions for Aneurysms etc requiring CPB. After obtaining the institutional ethical committee approval the study was conducted. Primary outcomes were assessed for spontaneous cardiac rhythm, requirement of Shocks( defibrillatory) Troponin levels compared with baseline, after 1,2 hours after the CPB (pump off), ventilatory duration, length of ICU stay, requirement of Insulin, glycaemic indices, overall hospital stay, mortality etc several of these factors were studied.
Results
Pre-operative criteria were almost similar between groups including age, society of thoracic surgeons risk score, for CABG and valve procedures
There was no significant difference on CPB time (98 vs 104 minutes) and cross clamp time(68 vs 79.8 minutes: p=0.019).
The Del Nido group showed higher return to spontaneous rhythm(97. 8% vs 81.7%
p= 0. 022 and fewer patients required inotropic support (65.1% vs84. 32%) but did not reach the statistical significance.
Conclusions
From this study it may be inferred that del Nido cardioplegia may be used safely for adult cardiac surgeries with streamlined surgical workflow. Troponin should be checked baseline and at time bound manner to prove the Superiority of the cardioplegia
Determinan Keputusan Petani Dalam Pengambilan Kredit Sektor Pertanian Kecamatan Lamaknen Kabupaten Belu Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur
Rif1 S-acylation mediates DNA double-strand break repair at the inner nuclear membrane
Rif1 is involved in telomere homeostasis, DNA replication timing, and DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair pathway choice from yeast to human. The molecular mechanisms that enable Rif1 to fulfill its diverse roles remain to be determined. Here, we demonstrate that Rif1 is S-acylated within its conserved N-terminal domain at cysteine residues C466 and C473 by the DHHC family palmitoyl acyltransferase Pfa4. Rif1 S-acylation facilitates the accumulation of Rif1 at DSBs, the attenuation of DNA end-resection, and DSB repair by non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ). These findings identify S-acylation as a posttranslational modification regulating DNA repair. S-acylated Rif1 mounts a localized DNA-damage response proximal to the inner nuclear membrane, revealing a mechanism of compartmentalized DSB repair pathway choice by sequestration of a fatty acylated repair factor at the inner nuclear membrane

Glial Heterotopia of the orbit: A rare presentation

Abstract

Background

Glial heterotopias are rare, benign, congenital, midline, non-teratomatous extracranial glial tissue. They may masquerade as encephalocoele or dermoid cyst and mostly present in nose. Herein, we present an unusual case of glial heterotopia of the orbit with unilateral blindness.

Case presentation

A 6 year-old-boy presented with a progressive painless mass over the nose and medial aspect of the left eye noticed since birth. On examination, the globe was displaced laterally by a firm, regular, mobile, non-pulsatile and non-tender medial mass. The affected eye had profound loss of vision. Computed tomography scan showed a large hypodense mass in the extraconal space with no intracranial connectivity and bony erosion. The child underwent total surgical excision of the mass and histopathological examination confirmed glial heterotopia of the orbit.

Conclusion

Though the incidence of this condition is rare, the need of appropriate diagnosis and management of such mass to prevent the visual and cosmetic deterioration is warranted. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of Glial heterotopia of orbit causing unilateral blindness.</p
Approaches in biotechnological applications of natural polymers
Natural polymers, such as gums and mucilage, are biocompatible, cheap, easily available and non-toxic materials of native origin. These polymers are increasingly preferred over synthetic materials for industrial applications due to their intrinsic properties, as well as they are considered alternative sources of raw materials since they present characteristics of sustainability, biodegradability and biosafety. As definition, gums and mucilages are polysaccharides or complex carbohydrates consisting of one or more monosaccharides or their derivatives linked in bewildering variety of linkages and structures. Natural gums are considered polysaccharides naturally occurring in varieties of plant seeds and exudates, tree or shrub exudates, seaweed extracts, fungi, bacteria, and animal sources. Water-soluble gums, also known as hydrocolloids, are considered exudates and are pathological products; therefore, they do not form a part of cell wall. On the other hand, mucilages are part of cell and physiological products. It is important to highlight that gums represent the largest amounts of polymer materials derived from plants. Gums have enormously large and broad applications in both food and non-food industries, being commonly used as thickening, binding, emulsifying, suspending, stabilizing agents and matrices for drug release in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. In the food industry, their gelling properties and the ability to mold edible films and coatings are extensively studied. The use of gums depends on the intrinsic properties that they provide, often at costs below those of synthetic polymers. For upgrading the value of gums, they are being processed into various forms, including the most recent nanomaterials, for various biotechnological applications. Thus, the main natural polymers including galactomannans, cellulose, chitin, agar, carrageenan, alginate, cashew gum, pectin and starch, in addition to the current researches about them are reviewed in this article.. }To the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientfíico e Tecnológico (CNPq) for fellowships (LCBBC and MGCC) and the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nvíel Superior (CAPES) (PBSA). Analisis Pengaruh Kedatangan Wisatawan Mancanegara Berdasarkan Daerah Asal Terhadap Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Di Indonesia
Pengaruh kedatangan wisatawan mancanenegara berdasarkan daerah asal
