Sensitive Chemical Compass Assisted by Quantum Criticality
The radical-pair-based chemical reaction could be used by birds for the
navigation via the geomagnetic direction. An inherent physical mechanism is
that the quantum coherent transition from a singlet state to triplet states of
the radical pair could response to the weak magnetic field and be sensitive to
the direction of such a field and then results in different photopigments in
the avian eyes to be sensed. Here, we propose a quantum bionic setup for the
ultra-sensitive probe of a weak magnetic field based on the quantum phase
transition of the environments of the two electrons in the radical pair. We
prove that the yield of the chemical products via the recombination from the
singlet state is determined by the Loschmidt echo of the environments with
interacting nuclear spins. Thus quantum criticality of environments could
enhance the sensitivity of the detection of the weak magnetic field.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Pendekatan Shojinka Dalam Meminimasi Total Work in Process Pada Produksi Springbed (Studi Kasus Di PT. Malindo Intitama Raya)
Work In Process is a material that has entered the production process but not a finished product yet. The amount of WIP is included in the company's losses can be caused by the load of each work station that is not balanced. PT Malindo Intitama Raya (MIR) is a company which engaged in the furniture manufacturing and trading. The problems experienced by the company was the number of work in process in 10 of 15 process. The company made a policy to keep producing at least 5 units springbed a day that will become a buffer stock in case of residual products. Problems of work in process is expected to be solved with the flexibility of workers. Flexibility worker in this case is to change the number of workers on a production line if production demands change. The method used in the flexibility of workers is use tools shojinka's approach with gang process chart. There were five scenarios for the target product produced in this research, there are 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 products. The result on reduction in the amount of 5 products work in process in the 4 process with total of 5 units and additional work in process in 2 process with 2 total units
The Físchlár-News-Stories system: personalised access to an archive of TV news
The “Físchlár” systems are a family of tools for capturing, analysis, indexing, browsing, searching and summarisation of digital video information. Físchlár-News-Stories, described in this paper, is one of those systems, and provides access to a growing archive of broadcast TV news. Físchlár-News-Stories has several notable features including the fact that it automatically records TV news and segments a broadcast news program into stories, eliminating advertisements and credits at the start/end of the broadcast. Físchlár-News-Stories supports access to individual stories via calendar lookup, text search through closed captions, automatically-generated links between related stories, and personalised access using a personalisation and recommender system based on collaborative filtering. Access to individual news stories is supported either by browsing keyframes with synchronised closed captions, or by playback of the recorded video. One strength of the Físchlár-News-Stories system is that it is actually used, in practice, daily, to access news. Several aspects of the Físchlár systems have been published before, bit in this paper we give a summary of the Físchlár-News-Stories system in operation by following a scenario in which it is used and also outlining how the underlying system realises the functions it offers
Inflatable Re-entry Vehicle Experiment (IRVE-4) Overview
The suite of Inflatable Re-Entry Vehicle Experiments (IRVE) is designed to further our knowledge and understanding of Hypersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerators (HIADs). Before infusion into a future mission, three challenges need to be addressed: surviving the heat pulse during re-entry, demonstrating system performance at relevant scales, and demonstrating controllability in the atmosphere. IRVE-4 will contribute to a better understanding of controllability by characterizing how a HIAD responds to a set of controlled inputs. The ability to control a HIAD is vital for missions that are g-limited, require precision targeting and guidance for aerocapture or entry, descent, and landing. The IRVE-4 flight test will focus on taking a first look into controlling a HIAD. This paper will give an overview of the IRVE-4 mission including the control response portion of the flight test sequence, and will provide a review of the mission s development

Kata kunci: Kenyamanan termal, material, orientasi, rumah susun Abstract The increase of population growth in Indonesia requires the governments act to anticipate fulfillment needs of living place. A limited place of land made the government to provide a solution to build a residential vertically. Flats are a building to be used as an alternative residence in the city. Contruction of flats still need to be examined in terms of comfort building related to the climatic conditions in Indonesia. Rumah Susun Sewa Sederhana Cingised is one of the flats that is maintained by the governments. The study will be conducted by the method of quantitative research, that is compare theories about the mass of building orientation and the material used with the field circumstances. The purpose of this study is to determine the design application related to solat orientation, view orientation, air-openings orientation. Air-openings location, air-openings type, air-openings effect, space barrier, structure materials, fillers, and finishing as the reference of standard thermal comfort. This research concluded that the building mass orientation and application of building materials affect a thermal comfort
The effect of polyethylene glycol on shellac stability
The effect of polyethylene glycol (PEG) having amolecular weight of 1000 and 2000 on shellac stability has been investigated in this research. The shellac was shellac wax free, and the solvent was ethanol 96%. Shellac films were prepared by solventevaporationmethod. The stability of shellac was investigated using insoluble solid test, Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), Thermogravimetry Analyzer (TGA), and Water Vapour Transmission Rate (WVTR). The results showed that stability of shellac decreased after heating at 125oC for 10,30,90,and 180 minutes, and storing for 1 month at 27 oC and 85 relative humidity (RH). PEG improved the stability, and the most stable effect was achieved through PEG1000
(Meta-)stable reconstructions of the diamond(111) surface: interplay between diamond- and graphite-like bonding
Off-lattice Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulations of the clean diamond
(111) surface, based on the effective many-body Brenner potential, yield the
Pandey reconstruction in agreement with \emph{ab-initio}
calculations and predict the existence of new meta-stable states, very near in
energy, with all surface atoms in three-fold graphite-like bonding. We believe
that the long-standing debate on the structural and electronic properties of
this surface could be solved by considering this type of carbon-specific
configurations.Comment: 4 pages + 4 figures, Phys. Rev. B Rapid Comm., in press (15Apr00).

Personality in patients with migraine evaluated with the "Temperament and Character Inventory"
The objective of this study was to assess the personality profile of a sample of Mexican patients with migraine using the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). A cross-sectional study was performed including adult migraine patients identified from the outpatient neurology clinics of two large teaching hospitals in Mexico City. Patients were asked to voluntarily participate in the study. A physician conducted a standardised diagnostic interview adhering to the criteria of the International Headache Society (IHS). Patients were interviewed and administered the TCI. We used two healthy controls groups and a third group of non-migraine pain controls. One hundred and fortytwo subjects with migraine, 108 healthy blood donors, 269 young healthy controls and 30 patients with non-migraine pain (NMP) were included in the study. Patients with migraine had higher scores in the dimension harm avoidance (HA) and all its sub-dimensions (p<0.05) than healthy patients. Patients with non-migraine pain had high scores in HA and low scores in novelty seeking, self-directedness and cooperativeness. Blood donors had high scores in the following subdimensions: HA1, HA4 and C3 (Cooperativeness). Personality features consistent with migraine are avoidance, rigidity, reserve and obsessivity. Our study shows that patients with chronic pain share some of the personality features of patients with migraine but their TCI profile could be indicative of cluster C avoidant personality. Blood donors were shown to have more energy, with a tendency to help other people and be more optimistic. The results support serotoninergic involvement as explaining the physiopathology of migraine
