Identity cards and political commitment: a study in the formation, operationalisation and measurement of a concept
This thesis presents a new definition of the concept of political commitment. It shows how the concept can be operationalised for empirical research in parliamentary and executive settings, and reports findings from a study to measure the commitment of the Labour Government to its identity card policy. Drawing on literature from across the social sciences, the thesis derives an eight-limbed synthesis definition of the concept. This new definition is operationalised for empirical examination in a single case study of British identity cards policy between 2001 and 2006. The Labour governmentâs stance towards compulsory identity cards remained robust in the face of strong parliamentary, media and pressure group opposition, and is offered as an âextremeâ case study of commitment. The thesis uses these findings to evaluate the concept formation and operationalisation process, and compares results in operationalising for the parliamentary and executive arenas. Data are drawn from elite interviews, parliamentary archives, biographies, and policy documents. The thesis concludes that this new approach to political commitment allows for a nuanced understanding of the concept, which offers a more accurate description of the relationship between governments and âobjectâ of their commitment than the existing theory permits. It also provides a solid foundation for the development of explanatory models of political commitment, in the future

The analysis of the benefits and costs of aeronautical research and technology (ABC-ART) models are documented. These models were developed by NASA for use in analyzing the economic feasibility of applying advanced aeronautical technology to future civil aircraft. The methodology is composed of three major modules: fleet accounting module, airframe manufacturing module, and air carrier module. The fleet accounting module is used to estimate the number of new aircraft required as a function of time to meet demand. This estimation is based primarily upon the expected retirement age of existing aircraft and the expected change in revenue passenger miles demanded. Fuel consumption estimates are also generated by this module. The airframe manufacturer module is used to analyze the feasibility of the manufacturing the new aircraft demanded. The module includes logic for production scheduling and estimating manufacturing costs. For a series of aircraft selling prices, a cash flow analysis is performed and a rate of return on investment is calculated. The air carrier module provides a tool for analyzing the financial feasibility of an airline purchasing and operating the new aircraft. This module includes a methodology for computing the air carrier direct and indirect operating costs, performing a cash flow analysis, and estimating the internal rate of return on investment for a set of aircraft purchase prices

The Interactions and magnetization reversal of Ni nanowire arrays and synthetic anit-ferromagnetic coupled thin film trilayers have been investigated through first order reversal curve (FORC) method. By using a quantitative analysis of the local interaction field profile distributions obtained from FORC, it has proven to be a powerful characterization tool that can reveal subtle features of magnetic interactions
Proposed parametric cooling of bilayer cuprate superconductors by terahertz excitation
We propose and analyze a scheme for parametrically cooling bilayer cuprates
based on the selective driving of a -axis vibrational mode. The scheme
exploits the vibration as a transducer making the Josephson plasma frequencies
time-dependent. We show how modulation at the difference frequency between the
intra- and interbilayer plasmon substantially suppresses interbilayer phase
fluctuations, responsible for switching -axis transport from a
superconducting to resistive state. Our calculations indicate that this may
provide a viable mechanism for stabilizing non-equilibrium superconductivity
even above , provided a finite pair density survives between the bilayers

CHURCH CAMPUS ENHANCEMENT FOR MAXIMUM MINISTRY EFFECTIVENESS: RESEARCH PROJECT
The modern church in America needs to recapture the sacredness and significance of its facility to enhance its message, ministry, and mission in the community. The goal of this research study is to explore the benefits of church facilities designed to inspire and influence people to follow Christ. Jesus promised us, âFor where two or three gather in my name, I am there with themâ (Matt 18:20). In one sense of the word, a church campus is a representation of Christ in the community. Therefore, facilities management is the proper stewardship of our ministry. The mission that Jesus gave the church forms the purpose of church facilities usage. Shreveport Community (SC) Church made facility enhancements to research the effect it would have on the mission of SC Church: To make disciples of Jesus Christ. The intent of this dissertation is to discover what effect exists between the existence, enhancement, and expansion of a church facility and the life experience (spirit, mind, and body) of the SC Church congregation and the Shreveport community. The dissertation project studies the positive impact of quality church facilities through a theological review, literature review, and research project. Kid City Parties (KCP) is a facility within SC Church that underwent intentional facility enhancements for the research project. A quantitative, pre-experimental, posttest-only research design was used for study purposes in evaluating the efficacy of KCP changes enacted since 2020
