MS-172: Paxton Family Papers

This set of papers presents a variety of notes and correspondences between members of the family and friends. The bulk of the letters date 1895 and come from Elizabeth D. Paxton and Margaretta Paxton to their mother, Caroline Sophia Denny Paxton, while touring Europe. There are letters from James Dunlop and Harmar Denny to their mother, as well as condolence letters for Mr. and Mrs. William M. Paxton upon the death of Harmar Denny in 1896. This collection may prove useful for a researcher conducting a study of the Paxton family, or one interested in the travels of Americans in Europe at the end of the 19th century. This collection does not contain information relevant to William Miller Paxton’s time at Gettysburg or his career. STRATEGI PROMOSI DC PRODUCTION MELALUI MEDIA SOSIAL DALAM MENAIKKAN POPULARITAS DENNY CAKNAN

This study aims to determine how the implementation of DC Production's promotion strategy using social media to increase the popularity of Denny Caknan. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with case study method. The paradigm used is the constructivist paradigm where social processes are obtained through actions and interactions created by individuals continuously so as to produce a reality that is owned and experienced individually. Data collection was obtained through observation and in-depth interviews. The results of this study indicate that the promotional strategy used by DC Production is by utilizing social media. Social media plays an important role in promoting the work of Denny Caknan. DC Production uses promotional tools in the form of social media such as Instagram, Youtube and TikTok. Youtube is useful as a showcase for introducing a song, then being promoted or introduced through Instagram and TikTok. Instagram to influence engagement rate through likes and comments. Then the promotional strategy used is personal branding attached to Denny Caknan on his social media. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Paradigma yang digunakan adalah paradigma kontruktivisme dimana proses sosial didapatkan melalui aksi dan interaksi yang diciptakan oleh individu secara terus menerus sehingga menghasilkan suatu realitas yang dimiliki dan dialami secara perorangan. Pengumpulan data didapatkan melalui observasi dan wawancara mendalam. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi promosi yang digunakan oleh DC Production yaitu dengan memanfaatkan media sosial. Media sosial berperan penting dalam melakukan promosi karya dari Denny Caknan. DC Production menggunakan alat promosi berupa media sosial seperti Instagram, Youtube dan TikTok. Youtube berguna sebagai etalase pengenalan sebuah lagu, kemudian di promosikan atau diperkenalkan melalui Instagram dan TikTok. Instagram untuk mempengaruhi engagement rate melalui likes dan koemntar. Kemudian strategi promosi yang digunakan yaitu personal branding yang melekat pada diri Denny Caknan di media sosialnya. A Hybrid Discussion of Multiliteracy and Identity Politics

Much discussion has taken place in composition and writing center studies regarding “multi-”s: multimedia, multiliteracy, multimodality, even multiwriting. The “multi-” that has received the most attention in writing center studies specifically is multiliteracy. This attention has manifested in some scholars calling for the writing center’s evolution to a multiliteracy center, or MLC (Trimbur; Sheridan, “Introduction”; Sheridan, “Words, Images, Sounds”; McKinney; Balester et al.). This call is contemporaneous with but virtually distinct from another important discussion in writing center studies. I am talking here about the politics of identity. The major questions in this discussion have been: What are the ways we can put into pedagogical practice a theory of identity that is based on discursive practices and intersectionality as opposed to one based on fixed, isolated definitions? Additionally, how can we ensure that this kind of pedagogy provides the grounds for subverting and resisting hegemonic discourses (Cooper; Bawarshi and Pelkowski; Grimm; Denny, “Queering the Writing Center”; Denny, Facing the Center)? While I do not propose here a comprehensive cultural studies pedagogy nor a comprehensive multiliteracy pedagogy, I do see an opportunity for consultant training in making these discussions talk to one another.University Writing Cente

The Discoverability of Private Social Media Content: Are Pennsylvania Trial Courts Going Too Far by Granting Litigants Unfettered Access to Their Opponents\u27 Social Media Accounts?

Patty Plaintiff was driving on a Pennsylvania road when Denny Defendant ran a red light and struck Plaintiffs vehicle, causing Patty to lose control of her car and strike a pole. Patty sustained injuries to her neck, back, and face. She subsequently sued Denny for damages, including lost wages, lost future earning capacity, pain and suffering, loss of ability to enjoy the pleasures of life, and scarring and embarrassment. In addition, Patty\u27s husband filed a claim against Denny for loss of consortium. Denny\u27s counsel conceded Denny\u27s negligence, leaving only the amount and extent of damages at issue. In the discovery phase of litigation, Patty claimed that she could no longer participate in certain physical activities because of her injured neck and back and that her enjoyment of life had been impaired. In addition, Patty\u27s husband claimed that he no longer takes pleasure in his wife\u27s companionship and affection since the accident. While deposing Patty, Denny\u27s counsel found out that Patty has a Facebook account and a Twitter account. However, certain content on Patty\u27s Facebook account is available only to those people whom Patty designates as a friend, while other information is available for anyone to see. Nilai-Nilai Budaya Dalam Lagu Ndas Gerih Karya Denny Caknan; Studi Semiotika Ferdinand De Saussure

Denny Setiawan or Denny Caknan is classified as successful in inspiring millennial generation to be culturally literate through their musical works with regional nuances. Denny became known to the public when his song Kartonyono Medhot Janji went viral in 2019. At the end of 2020 Denny released a new song entitled Ndas Gerih. This song is unique because the song lyrics are written in 3 languages, namely Javanese, Indonesian and English, with more than 30 million views and 27 thousand comments. Not only that, the visualization in the video clip of the song is rich of local cultural and traditional values. This study specifically aims to analyze the cultural values in the Ndas Gerih song through the semiotic perspective of Ferdinand De Saussure. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with the objects of this research, namely lyrics, music (audio) and pictures. The results showed that cultural values were represented in each of the lyrics, music and video clips of the Ndas Gerih song. Those values are local traditional values, religious value, aesthetic value and economic value

Presuposisi Potensial Mengandung Gaya Bahasa sebagai Kontrol Rasionalisasi Tuturan pada Podcast Denny Sumargo

Denny Sumargo's podcast has become one of the most popular channels for various people. One of the interesting topics that can be studied is the potential presuppositions that appear in speech. Denny Sumargo discoursed with his interlocutor through the use of certain figurative speech. The aim of this study is to analyze the figurative speech control rationale of potential presuppositional found on Denny Sumargo’s YouTube podcast channel with Laura Anna. The research method used in this study was content analysis with a qualitative approach. The data was taken from discourse activities on the video podcast of Denny Sumargo with Laura Anna which aired on Youtube. The data in this study was a discourse that contained potential presuppositions. Data collection techniques in the study were carried out with documentation techniques, listening techniques, and note-taking techniques. Based on the data analysis, it was found that all types of potential presuppositions were in the style of repetition, ellipsis, symbolism, hyperbole, euphemism, and metaphor. Those potential presuppositions of figurative speech aim to soften the language so that the interlocutor does not feel offended, to confirm the intention, to trigger interpretation, and to enhance the impression. Those a   forms of rationalization of speech to control the social attributes of Laura Anna as a guest star who is paralyzed due to an accident.Podcast Denny Sumargo menjadi salah satu channel yang digandrungi oleh berbagai kalangan. Salah satu bahasan menarik yang dapat diteliti adalah presuposisi potensial yang muncul dalam tuturan. Denny Sumargo melakukan aktivitas berbahasa dengan lawan tuturnya melalui penggunaan gaya bahasa tertentu. Tujuan penelitian ini menganalisis presuposisi potensial yang mengandung gaya bahasa pada channel youtube podcast Denny Sumargo bersama Laura Anna. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis isi dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini berasal dari aktivitas berbahasa pada video podcast Denny Sumargo bersama Laura Anna yang tayang pada youtube. Data penelitian ini adalah tuturan yang mengandung presuposisi potensial. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian dilakukan dengan teknik simak, teknik catat, dan teknik dokumentasi. Berdasarkan analisis data ditemukan semua jenis presuposisi potensial yang bergaya bahasa repetisi, elipsis, simbolik, hiperbola, eufumisme, dan metafora. Tuturan pada presuposisi potensial bergaya bahasa tersebut bertujuan memperhalus bahasa agar lawan tutur tidak merasa tersinggung, menegaskan maksud, memantik tafsiran, dan meningkatkan kesan. ‘ An investigation of the nervous control of defecation ’ by Denny-Brown and Robertson: a classic paper revisited

In 1935 two young neurologists, Derek Denny-Brown and E. Graeme Robertson, published an article explaining the mechanisms underlying human defaecation based on a manometric study in patients with sacral root and spinal cord lesions, and normal subjects. This article is still routinely cited in studies of rectal and sphincter ani function. Unfortunately, however, the article itself is not written well, being composed of long convoluted sentences and containing 79 often indecipherable figures. Difficult-to-understand articles were common to the publications of Denny-Brown, who became one of the most prominent neurologists of the twentieth century.
