School engagement and parent attachment as predictors of perceived competence in adolescents
WOS: 000432684900004The aim of this study is to determine the predictors of perceived competence in adolescents. There were two different study groups in the research. In the first study group, a total of 336 high school students, 194 (57.7%) female and 142 (42.3%) male, were studied on the adaptation study of the Short Form of Inventory Parent Attachment. In the second study group, in order to determine the predictors of perceived competence, with a total of 411 high school students, 233 women (56.7%) and 178 (43.3%) male students were studied on. The data were collected through Perceived Competence Scale, Scale for School Engagement and Short Form of Inventory Parent Attachment and Demographic Information Form. In this descriptive study, stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to determine the predictors of academic competence and social competence. According to the analysis results, internal engagement, program engagement, communication with mother, teacher engagement and trust to father significantly predict academic competence. However, internal engagement, trust to father, communication with the mother and administration engagement significantly predicted social competence. The findings of the study were discussed in the light of relevant literature and suggestions were presented
Views Of Psychological Counselor Candidates About Psychological Counseling And Guidance Education
Four years undergraduate education has an important effect on offering proper services that are given by psychological counselors. For this reason, deficiencies in psychological counseling and guidance's programs need to be confirmed and reorganized in this way to be high quality, contemporary and meet to the needs of the country. The aim of this study is to determine psychological counselor candidates' opinions about psychological counseling and guidance education that they receive. The 149 university students (71.1%' (n=106) female, 28.9% (n=43) male) who receive education in 39 different university are included within the context of the study. It was examined that opinions of participants about psychological counseling and guidance programs and the results were discussed in the light of literature. (C) 2015 The Authors. University Student'S Relationship'S Believes: Sample Of Turkey
The purpose of this study to determine Hacettepe University's students relationships' believes and factors which effects to these believes. According to this purpose, two questions were presented in this study: 1. Does university students' general relationships' believes', helplessness, unlovability grade averages differ according to gender and relationship which she/he had before? 2. Is there any significant relationship between university students' general relationships' believes', helplessness, unlovability grade averages and relationship's duration? Method: The study was conducted 159 students who study at Hacettepe University, in period of fall semester in 2012-2013 academic years. The participants were comprised of 110 women, 48 men. Relationship Belief Inventory was used in this study which was adapted in Turkish by Kalkan and Personal Information Form which was developed by researchers. Additionally, independent sample t-test and Pearson product-moment correlation were analysis methods which were used for analyzing the data. Findings: According to this research's results, it was determined that there was significant difference between gender and students' general relationship believes' (p.05, t=572), helplessness (p>.05, t=948), unlovability grade averages (p>.05, t=443). On the other hand, there was negative and significant correlations between relationship's duration and university students' general relationship believes (r=-0,172, p.05). (C) 2015 The Authors. Career decision-making self-efficacy of young adolescent students in Turkey
Multiple regression was used to investigate whether the perfectionism perceptions, automatic thoughts, and the grade point average (GPA) of young adolescent students predict their career decision-making self-efficacy levels. The final sample included 383 students in their eighth year of school. Results indicate that positive perfectionism, automatic thoughts, and GPA predict students’ levels of career decision-making self-efficacy. Furthermore, exploratory analyses indicated that female students had higher levels of career decision-making self-efficacy than did male students, as did students whose mothers were graduates of two and four-year postsecondary educational institutions versus high school. Practical recommendations and research suggestions are proposed. © 2018, © 2018 International School Psychology Association
An Overview of Young Adults' Opinions Into Cyber Relation: Turkey Sample
Social media consumption is increasing in Turkey day by day as in whole word. Nowadays, individuals contact with emotional attachment and have romantic relations with people who they meet on internet and social media. People's perception and their messages to those who have online relationship could affect the relationship's quality. Aim of this study is to determine the opinions of young adults about cyber relations that contacted with social media. 244 volunteer young adults participated in the present study. The Positive Contribution of School Adjustment Activities to the Transition of First Grade Students: A Case Study in Ankara
The importance of programs that facilitate the transition of students to elementary school in order to support both their academic success and healthy development is undeniable. Therefore, the Ministry of National Education developed the School Adjustment Program in cooperation with UNICEF for first graders and implemented it in all elementary schools in Turkey. The aim of the present study is to examine the contribution of this program to school adjustment, student-teacher relations, peer relations, and various behaviors of elementary school students in first grade. The participants of the study, which is based on ex-post facto design, include 110 classroom teachers working in schools in Ankara during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 academic years. While 48 of these teachers implemented the adjustment program activities in their classrooms in 2015; others did not implement these activities in their classrooms in 2016. All the teachers filled in the School Adjustment Teacher Rating Scale, Student-Teacher Relationship Scale, and Child Behavior Scale (683 students engaged in the activities and 520 students did not) to evaluate how various aspects of their students' transition were affected by the program. One-way MANOVA analysis showed that the study group had higher mean scores for collaborative participation, liking school, self-directedness, and closeness to the teacher than the comparison group. Although the aggressive and prosocial behavior scores towards peers were higher in the study group, the partial effect sizes were found to be insignificant. While the scores of school avoidance and conflict with teachers were lower in the study group than in the comparison group, there was no difference between the groups in their scores for asocial behaviors towards peers, hyperactivity/distraction, anxiety/fear, and exclusion by peers. It was concluded that the program contributed to the establishment of close student-teacher relationships in the selected schools and the adjustment of the students to the schools
The Risk Behaviors of High School Students and Causes Thereof: A Qualitative Study
WOS: 000457525000011This study searchs the causes of risk behaviors committed by adolescents, the risk factors in their lives and the protective factors against such risks. This qualitative study has been developed in a phenomenological design. As such, the data has been collected through interviews with a total of 47 students. A semi-structured interview, prepared in line with the theoretical information, was utilized in this study. The data is analyzed by using content analysis method. The results have been considered under the general features such as family and friend relations, whereas the causes revealed with effect to each dimension of risk behavior's have been assessed under the light of the respective literature. In addition, it can be said that risk behavior predicts risk behavior, in other words, risk behavior can cause another risk behavior.
