This essay presents an interpretation of Stanisław Barańczak’s Bist du bei mir – a poem that has often been the subject of literary studies. The author refers to the poem’s motto – a fragment of an aria by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel from Clavierbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach, often falsely attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach. She also points at the context of mystical poetry: Adam Mickiewicz’s epigrams from Zdania i uwagi z dzieł Jakuba Bema, Anioła Ślązaka (Angelus Silesius) i Sę-Martena [Sentences and remarks. From the works of Jacob Böhme, Angelus Silesius, and St. Martin] and G. Herbert’s poems translated by Barańczak. The mediating role of stress in the relationship between attention to threat bias and psychotic-like experiences depends on coping strategies

Aim: Recent studies have provided evidence that enhanced stress level is associated with the increase of psychotic symptoms in both clinical and non-clinical populations. It has also been demonstrated that cognitive biases contribute to psychotic experiences. However, it remains unclear whether the effect of cognitive biases and perceived stress on psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) is influenced by coping methods. In the present study we examined whether the relationship linking cognitive biases with PLEs is mediated by the level of stress and whether particular coping methods modify the relationship between stress and PLEs. Methods: The study sample consisted of 290 non-clinical subjects; study variables were assessed by questionnaires. Moderated mediation analyses were conducted. Results: Perceived stress was found to serve as a partial mediator in the relationship linking attention to threat (ATB) and external attribution biases (ETB) with psychotic-like experiences. Also, moderated mediation analysis revealed that the indirect effect of attention to threat bias on positive and depressive symptoms of psychotic-like experiences via perceived stress was stronger at higher levels of distraction seeking coping. Moreover, the indirect effect of ATB on depressive symptoms was moderated by task-oriented coping and emotion-oriented coping. Task-oriented coping also moderated the indirect effect of ETB on depression. Conclusion: The findings imply that both perceived stress and coping styles are important factors affecting the association between cognitive biases and psychotic-like experiences

Effect of trauma onset on personality traits of politically persecuted victims

BACKGROUND: The hypothesis that traumatic experiences in early childhood impact personality formation and psychopathology is well known in psychology and psychiatry, but this is difficult to verify statistically in methodological terms. The aim of this study, conducted with politically persecuted Poles, was to establish the influence of the time when trauma is experienced on the development of psychopathological symptoms. METHODS: The subjects were divided into two groups: those who had experienced trauma before age five (group 1) and those who experienced trauma at an older age (group 2). Subjects in both groups suffered from chronic untreated post-traumatic stress disorder. In order to test the research hypothesis, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 profiles of both groups were compared using Student’s t-test, and the Mann–Whitney U-test. RESULTS: Statistically significant between-group differences were found for the F validity scale and the following clinical scales: Hypochondriasis, Depression, Psychopathic deviate, Psychasthenia, Schizophrenia, and Social introversion. All the significantly different scores were higher in the group traumatized in early childhood. People exposed to trauma under age five had profiles similar to those traumatized after age five, but they experienced their symptoms more intensely. CONCLUSIONS: Of clinical significance, higher scores on the psychasthenia, schizophrenia, and social introversion scales, especially on the psychopathic deviate scale, indicated pathology only in the early childhood trauma group. Taken together, these symptoms lead to withdrawal and hindrance of social functioning. This outcome confirms the hypothesis of the influence of various early childhood factors (such as trauma) on personality formation and personality traits in adulthood

he article discusses the issues of doubts and critical attitude of companies concerning corporate social responsibility based on the example of companies in the TSL sector. This article is divided into two main parts. In the first part the literature review within the problem in question has been presented. The aim of this part was to show the doubts and critical remarks with regard to social responsibility. In the second part the results of empirical studies were cited as a basis for determining the reasons for objections to the corporate social responsibility among companies in the TSL sector.W artykule podjęto problematykę wątpliwości i krytycznej postawy przedsiębiorstw wobec społecznej odpowiedzialności. Rozważania oparto na przykładzie przedsiębiorstw sektora TSL. Artykuł podzielono na dwie zasadnicze części. W pierwszej części dokonano przeglądu literatury wraz z ustosunkowaniem się do zidentyfikowanych problemów. Celem tej części było wskazanie, jakie wątpliwości i jakie krytyczne uwagi są przedstawiane w przypadku społecznej odpowiedzialności. W części drugiej przywołano wyniki badań empirycznych, które posłużyły do określenia przyczyn obiekcji względem społecznej odpowiedzialności wśród przedsiębiorstw sektora TSL

Jak słuchać prozy Jarosława Iwaszkiewicza? O muzyczności Nieba.

The poetic prose of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz is interpreted in the first part of this article in agreement with the commentary "from the author", as an implementation of a sonata form. The musical content of the text is shown on its several levels: from the instrumental setting of two contrasting themes (the keys of n and r) to the composition (allegro, largo, rondo, variations). Making use of the categories of formal mimetics, the present authorindicates, however, the impossibility of reconciling completely the construction principles of two different types of utterances. Interpretation reveals the limitations of the literary material: the dialogue type relation of the musical structure with the lingual semantics. The musical convention of the form imposes a certain discipline - endeavours to subject to itself the world of the work, but the stratum of the senses liberating itself from these limitations forms an autonomous sphere of philosophical reflections.
