An overview of emerging pattern mining in supervised descriptive rule discovery: taxonomy, empirical study, trends, and prospects
Emerging pattern mining is a data mining task that aims to discover discriminative patterns, which can describe emerging behavior with respect to a property of interest. In recent years, the description of datasets has become an interesting field due to the easy acquisition of knowledge by the experts. In this review, we will focus on the descriptive point of view of the task. We collect the existing approaches that have been proposed in the literature and group them together in a taxonomy in order to obtain a general vision of the task. A complete empirical study demonstrates the suitability of the approaches presented. This review also presents future trends and emerging prospects within pattern mining and the benefits of knowledge extracted from emerging patternsSpanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under the project

Dosimetric effect by shallow air cavities in high energy electron beams
This study evaluates the dosimetric impact caused by an air cavity located at 2 mm depth from the top surface in a PMMA phantom irradiated by electron beams produced by a Siemens Primus linear accelerator. A systematic evaluation of the effect related to the cavity area and thickness as well as to the electron beam energy was performed by using Monte Carlo simulations (EGSnrc code), Pencil Beam algorithm and Gafchromic EBT2 films. A home-PMMA phantom with the same geometry as the simulated one was specifically constructed for the measurements. Our results indicate that the presence of the cavity causes an increase (up to 70%) of the dose maximum value as well as a shift forward of the position of the depthedose curve, compared to the homogeneous one. Pronounced dose discontinuities in the regions close to the lateral cavity edges are observed. The shape and magnitude of these discontinuities
change with the dimension of the cavity. It is also found that the cavity effect is more pronounced (6%) for the 12 MeV electron beam and the presence of cavities with large thickness and small area introduces more significant variations (up to 70%) on the depthedose curves. Overall, the Gafchromic EBT2 film measurements were found in agreement within 3% with Monte Carlo calculations and predict well the fine details of the dosimetric change near the cavity interface. The Pencil Beam calculations underestimate the dose up to 40% compared to Monte Carlo simulations; in
particular for the largest cavity thickness (2.8 cm)
IFE Plant Technology Overview and contribution to HiPER proposal
HiPER is the European Project for Laser Fusion that has been able to join 26 institutions and signed under formal government agreement by 6 countries inside the ESFRI Program of the European Union (EU). The project is already extended by EU for two years more (until 2013) after its first preparatory phase from 2008. A large work has been developed in different areas to arrive to a design of repetitive operation of Laser Fusion Reactor, and decisions are envisioned in the next phase of Technology Development or Risk Reduction for Engineering or Power Plant facilities (or both). Chamber design has been very much completed for Engineering phase and starting of preliminary options for Reactor Power Plant have been established and review here
Analysis of Transformer Model Applications
Since the emergence of the Transformer, many variations of the original architecture have been created. Revisions and taxonomies have appeared that group these models from different points of view. However, no review studies the tasks faced according to the type of data used. In this paper, the modifications applied to Transformers to work with different input data (text, image, video, etc.) and to solve disparate problems are analysed. Building on the foundations of existing taxonomies, this work proposes a new one that relates input data types to applications. The study shows open challenges and can serve as a guideline for the development of Transformer networks for specific applications with different types of data by observing development trends
Fiber-optic lossy mode resonance sensors
In the last 4 years, experimental evidences about the potential use of optical sensors based on Lossy Mode Resonances (LMR) have been presented in the literature. These LMR sensors have some similarities with Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) sensors, the gold standard in label-free, real-time biomolecular interaction analysis. In these new LMR sensors, if the non-metallic nanocladding of an optical waveguide fulfills the conditions explained in this work, coupling of light to the cladding modes happens at certain resonance wavelengths, which enables the use of LMR devices as refractometers and opens the door to diverse applications such as in biology and proteomics research. These highly sensitive refractometers have already shown sensitivities higher than 20,000 nm/RIU or 5x10-7 RIU and, given the youth of this field, it is expected to achieve even better values
CSA06 Computing, Software and Analysis challenge at the Spanish Tier-1 and Tier-2 sites
This note describes the participation of the Spanish centres PIC, CIEMAT and IFCA as Tier-1 and Tier-2 sites in the CMS CSA06 Computing, Software and Analysis challenge. A number of the facilities, services and workflows have been demonstrated at the 2008 25% scale. Very valuable experience has been gained running the complex computing system under realistic conditions at a significant scale. The focus of this note is on presenting achieved results, operational experience and lessons learnt during the challenge
