This study examined the English language usage of pupils in public and private primary schools. The sample used for the study consisted of fifty (50) teachers from public primary schools and fifty (50) from private primary schools. A simple self developed questionnaire was used to get information from the respondents regarding the extent to which pupils in primary school use English. Three research hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance during the study. The findings indicated that there was significant difference between the level of exposure of pupils in public and private schools to English at home; the usage of English     language in teaching and learning in private and public schools; and the level of exposure to English language of pupils at school in public and private schools. The study, therefore recommended that government should make necessary review of language policy in order to make it workable in our primary schools. It should be noted that too much emphasis should not be placed on mother tongue education to the detriment of English and vice versa.

STOCK PRICE TREND PREDICTION USING SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINE AND CORAL REEF OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM

Due to non-linearity and non-stationary characteristics of stock market time series data, prior approaches have not been adequate enough for predicting stock market prices. Support vector machines are classifier that have been reported in the literature as having good recognition accuracy and have been applied in the area of predicting financial stock market prices and was found efficient. It is however noted that the performance of the SVM is affected by the values of the hyper-parameters used by the SVM. There is the need to find a way for searching for the best hyper-parameters that optimizes the performance of an SVM model. Coral Reef Optimization (CRO) is one of many nature-inspired algorithms used extensively to solve optimization problems. It is very effective in solving optimization problems because it is able to achieve global optimization. This paper’s contribution is the development of Coral Reef search algorithms for the improvement of the hyper-parameters of the SVM used for stock price trend prediction. The Algorithm is validated using stock data of two banks. The results obtained out-performed un-optimized SVM, and have the same performance as that of SVM optimized with the FireFly optimization algorithm.   &nbsp

This study examines the effect of a time usage policy on employee’s work-life conflict and the impact of leave programmes on employes’ attitude using five selected banks in Nigeria. A sample of N=386 respondents were randomly selected from these banks to participate in the study. Questionnaire was used to collect information from respondents. The standard multiple regression was used to generate results that indicate how well the set of variables representing work-life initiatives on time usage is able to predict work-life conflict. In order to find the relationship between the work-life initiatives on time usage and work-life conflict, the Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient was used. The result also showed that the correlations between the dependent variablejob- related attitude and independent variable-Leave initiatives to determine the level of relationship the work-life balance initiative bears on job-related attitude. The finding shows that a relationship exists between job related attitude and leave initiatives; however they are not statistically significant @ .05 level

Algoritma Kompresi Fraktal Sequential Dan Paralel Untuk Kompresi Citra

Image compression is a process of reducing the size of the image by reducing the quality of the image. Fractal method is used to work by searching for similarities in the image pixels, and group them in clusters. The higher the degree of resemblance to the image, the better the compression ratio. In the color image (RGB) the method is repeated three times, each for one color element. The end result of the compression process is a three virtual codebook, each for one color element, which stores the value of the brightness, contrast, and the type of affine transformation are used for each cluster. Decompression process of this method is to form a blank image with the same resolution with the original image and fill in the RGB values at each pixel corresponding to the count value stored in the virtual codebook.By using the Coefficient of Variation (CV) as an adjustment value and standard deviation of 57 pieces of 24-bit BMP images, test results showed an average compression ratio of 41.79%. With the parallel method is used, the compression process of color image shows the average speed-up values of 1.69 and the processor efficiency of 56.34%

Background: Cholera outbreaks, reported yearly in Nigeria, are a public health concern and transmission is attributed to drinking of contaminated water and poor sanitation. Objective: To conduct a bacteriological analysis of potable water in areas with reported cholera outbreaks in Ogun, Lagos and Oyo States. Methods: Water samples collected from the study areas were examined physically, cultured in MacConkey broth and Alkaline peptone water to determine the most probable number (MPN) of Coliforms and isolate Vibro species respectively. Bacteria were cultured from the broths and were identified using standard methods. Results: All the other water samples examined were colourless, odourless, tasteless and lack particles except the well water which had yellowish brown colouration (4; 8%) and contained visible particles (5; 30%). The presumptive total coliform count ranged between < 3 and 1,100 MPN /100ml. Enterobacter gergoviae (34; 47.2%), Escherichia coli (16; 22.2%), Klebsiella pneumonia (7; 9.7%), Sarratia liquefaciens (6; 8.3%), Vibrio parahaemolyticus (5; 6.9%), Citrobacter diversus (2; 2.8), Klebsiella oxytoca (1; 1.4%) and Enterobacter aerogenes (1; 1.4%) were isolated from 33.5% of the water samples. The level of contamination of water sources within the different study areas was significant (p<0.001). Vibrio cholerae was not isolated, but Vibrio parahaemolyticus was isolated from 5 (10%) of the well water samples. Thermo-tolerant Coliforms were also identified from some samples. Conclusion: The well water samples were grossly contaminated with coliform bacteria and Vibrio parahaemolyticus and should be treated before drinking
